It wouldn't be so bad if the show took place in modern times or if there was a big twist that he tries to be confident and put on a tough persona to hide his homosexuality, but nope. I bought that he was a weird fricker whose interest in killers is uncomfortable.

most of fincher's budgets go towards time rather than anything else. he is famous for his many takes and exacting approach which sometimes means double the shooting schedule of some other projects. So let's take some of the interview scenes in Mindhunter. The way Fincher works, lets say for the sake of argument the Manson scene took 100 takes. What that translates into is not, here is the same shot 100 times, but rather lets do the whole scene run through 10 times in a master wide shot where you can see everyone. Now let's do the same from one side of the table. Now lets do it from the other side. Now how about another 10 from over manson's shoulder looking at Tench. Now another 10 lover the shoulder looking at Holden. Now 10 over Holdens shoulder at Manson, Now 10 over Tench's should at Manson. Then 10 close up of Holden. Then 10 close up of Tench. Then 10 close up of Manson. If anything that is drastically lowballing each interview scene.

You can easily see how quickly the shot schedule adds up which would require multiple days on the same soundstage or location, plus crew/lighting/equipment. Plus set up between each shot. That is where Fincher's cost always is, but its also what gets top performances out of his actors and gives the editor the ability to edit based on story rather than, this is the only shot they delivered their line right.

With all due respect, what would the endgame for this show have been, how long could it have gone on? Until they've recreated every serial killer interview in the FBI archives? I don't know if behavioral analysis is responsible for a single apprehension in law enforcement history. The first season was very well made but it already seem like a mini-series, which would have been good enough.

      Anonymous

I think the main reason why the show was cancelled is because NETFLIX realized they'd exhaust all the FBI archived interviews and pretty much all of the popular serial killers in the span of a single TV show, when it is way more profitable and attention-grabbing to just make several shows and documentaries about the serial killers themselves on an one by one case.

Season 3 ruined everything. By the end of season 2, the viewer is being initiated along with Frank. There are so many occult revelations throughout the 2 seasons that tptb shut them down. Season 3 turned both sides of the order that were about to go to war into a generic illuminati and Frank a scared b***h.
His final appearance as a mental patient in X-Files is the final warning.

        Anonymous

I like all 3 seasons. The basic structure of the series remained the same. Continuation of themes. But yeah they probably should have worked out a different route with S3. The X-Files crossover was disappointing, shouldn't have done it. There was no point to what they ended up doing because it doesn't come off as any type of resolution. It cheapened all that was built before, like S3 unfortunately did after S2. In itself, a crossover episode isn't a terrible idea. In S1 there's an episode where Mulder and Scully, played by stand-ins, walk by Frank and Peter Watts. Neat little easter egg. Anyway, many fans were disappointed and I remember at the time I was too. However I kept with it and S3 redeemed itself over the course of its episodes, in my opinion, still very intriguing and entertaining. Chris Carter should have put something out there to continue the story the way he'd have wanted to. Like write a novel for frick sake. It doesn't appear there will ever be another movie or series and you know what Thank God because it would be filled with garbage and political propaganda.

They could remake the series moreso then X-Files because Scully and Mulder are too iconic to those roles and Frank could be played by someone else since Henriksen is too old (probably gonna die in a couple years given post Covid Hollywood deaths) but chances are they’d remake both with different leads as agents and show it on either D+ or HBO Max and woke the shit out of it so yeah.

Not much of value was lost.
The only good parts were the killer interviews (and really, mostly just the Kemper ones).
Every time it branched out, it was the most cookie cutter crime drama north of procedural shit.
The whole Civil Rights subplot in S2 was boring shit, the whole lesbian subplot was boring, the whole kid becomes violent because he saw daddy's photos was shit, etc etc.
I liked Anna Torv's milf look for coomer reasons, but that's it.

Also why pick the fricking BTK case that wouldn't get resolved for decades, to open every other episode? Was it supposed to be some Memories of Murder type thing, where they never get closure?

Lynch is obsessed with normie shit like soap operas and eating at burger joints like Big Boy’s. He ain’t all this toodeep4u like his homosexual fans want everyone to think. He made a few weirdass films big whoop. He’s basically a doddering old man for nearly four decades now. So yes he’d make commercials and music videos given the chance he just wasn’t scooped up by big studio israelites, tale as old as time. If people on the internet weren’t “whoa Eraserhead whoa Twin Peaks” he’d basically be forgotten today. What has he done of any relevance lately other than the disastrous TP new season? Even his fanboys don’t defend that.

I would love to see David Lynch's Aliens. I think you meant Cameron? He came out of the Corman school. Lynch was doing video art installations and kinda got bullied into making features.
I've only seen the one at MoMA and it's glorious.
Lynch's video for Wicked Game is worth seeing

What are you guys talking about, he directed ALIENS 3.

A very polarizing film which IMO is very underrated, too bad it was 100% ruined with the fourth.

Jeunet and Caro making a Hollywood movie likr that at all was better than we deserved. I see it more as a less enjoyable film from the makers of Delicatessen and City of Lost Children than "ruining" some lame monster franchise.

After going through the first season I skipped EVERY SINGLE SCENE where the woman reporter was by herself. Or once another detective excused themselves I immediately fastforwarded to the next scene. She brings NOTHING and you LOSE NOTHING by SKIPPING ALL OF HER BULLSHIT homosexual TIME WASTING SCENES. The show would be a 12/10 if she just stuck to criminal shit and was a visual tease for the audience.

maybe. But the eventual Bundy arc would have been redundant since he's so overdone at this point.
