All they need to do is ring back straight kid Jon and ship gay teen Jon off with the legion and I’ll have action comics, Superman and super sons back on my pull. I will never pay for another Superman/justice league/Batman and superman comic until then.

      This.

I think they need to start new again. Everything about DC is so messy that a full blown reboot is the only thing that can save this company and the characters.

This would kill them. There’s no need to do this when the easier route is pretty much the same: admitting they fricked yo hiring and giving so much creative control to people more concerned with their own legacies and social media clout than writing good comics. Just do a soft reboot/relaunch (read: rebirth 2 as opposed to new 52 2.0) and bring back kid Jon and super sons as of Bendis never arrived and Taylor never did moronic shit, Blake Alan Scott straight again, stop putting out pride and black history month specials and focus on meat and potatoes stories.

You don’t need to reboot to do this and in fact it would only encourage more stupidity, let alone more egotism like with the new 52 eventually attempting to rewrite and “update” prior stories with absolute dogshit like zero year.

No it wouldn’t. New 52 sales were higher on release, but then the writing was shit and they dropped the ball again.

Well, nobody wants a retread of things that have been around for 80 years, either. New 52 was held up by comic shops and speculation. That's not available anymore. Just return to sound storytelling and drop stupid gimmicks such as le rebooting.

It showed that hte new audience didn't take to it and it alienated the people actually reading, that would be even worse here. And currently it is a soft reboot that has "everything is canon"

More so "new readers dont stick, old readers don't want their investment shat on". The only dc reboot that actually worked on any level was coie and even that still had people b***hing about it for years and those people came in power and wrecked everything that it had established systematically.

The ONLY correct decision at this point is to just stop publishing.

Correct. And for the people who like the more post-Crisis elements, they could even still do that since there would be an infinite multiverse and somewhere that universe would exist.

Forget about the stupid image, how does that change DC baiting and being shit?

            Anonymous

Its not baiting? Nostalgia minis are fairly common, marvel and dc have almost always done them, its a way of using status quos that arent maintainable in the present while exploring other stuff, and general flashback stuff in general is a tradition for them and some of the most enduring stuff is stuff like year one. It means nothing beyond dc doing what its always done.

It is bait, because nostagia is suppose to be a good feeling. But then you read it and it's shit.

Do you ever think that these characters have been used to their full extent already, all the best stories already told? Or do you think the "modern mythology" can keep going and any character can still have good stories in the hands of a good enough writer?

      Anonymous

depends on what you mean. A lot of them have essentially had full character arcs and the only way to go forward is to either regress them or push further into the arc which ages them, but that's supposed to be bad for some reason so they usually regress them. In terms of just using the characters and the settings, they can pretty much do that forever. There is always a mystery or open case for batman to solve, some alien or madman with advanced tech for superman to punch, some magical creature or god for wonderwoman to deal with, etc.

The best way to clean house is not to reboot existing characters, but to progress the timeline and replace them. The truth is, you're replacing those characters anyway with completely different characters, that you're calling them the same name doesn't change that fact because it means you're reducing those characters to a brand name that means absolutely nothing.

      Anonymous

No, a canon house cleaning is desperately needed for DC. The last 20 years (mostly under Didio) have completely fricked continuity and characters (half-assed reboots that just made canon more confusing, writing out fan-favorite characters to replace with other versions of the character only to bring the fan favorite character back so now you have literally two different Wally Wests running around) that a hard, total canon break is necessary. If Jesus came from heaven and said anon I am giving you complete and total control over Detective Comics Comics I would have Earth 1 be a hard rebooted earth and use the current World’s Finest book as a blueprint, keeping all the characters at their most recognizable and keeping canon light, then reboot Earth 2 as a continuation of post-Crisis DC where you’d have character progression and all the legacy characters and shit.

I'm struggling to read comics. First, they take far too long to come out for such little content. An issue a month? Really?
stories, ideas, and actions are contradicting each other depending on the run, characters can change on the spot when a different writer takes control, no ending to the story so nothing matters, the reboots, the confusing timelines. I don't think I can do this anymore.
