BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN: THE LAST HALLOWEEN #1

In 1996, writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale teamed up for Batman: The Long Halloween, an award-winning 13-chapter saga that spawned multiple sequels and stands as the most influential Batman story of its era. Now, Loeb returns to the world of The Long Halloween for its long-anticipated final act: Batman: The Last Halloween, an all-new 10-part mystery continuing the story from 2021's The Long Halloween Special. In each issue, Loeb will be joined by one of the top artists in comics, in a beautiful and lovingly crafted tribute to Sale's art and legacy.
In issue one, Gotham City learns to fear Halloween once more as a terrible event threatens to destroy Jim Gordon's life and puts Batman and Robin's teamwork to the test more than ever before. In a city of liars, masked vigilantes, and criminals…can anyone be trusted?

Rotating artists is my favorite, especially since, with a good editor, you can have all issues have amazing art done by typically slow artists.

      >>I don't know if having a different artist each issue is a good idea
I personally hate the idea but I hate any artist in general taking over for Tim. Should have let this pass after Tim passed.

BUT if they insisted it should have been one artist like Michael Cho or Matt Wagner

I genuinely hate the rotating artists gimmick. Completely undermines the fact that one artist did all of the prior stories.

Rotating artists is my favorite, especially since, with a good editor, you can have all issues have amazing art done by typically slow artists.

It’s moronic enough in shit like Millarverse books. Its absolutely senseless for a continuation of 35-40 issues done by one extremely specific artist.

        Anonymous

Yeah, for the Loeb/Sale Saga, I agree. But I'd much rather a Seven Soldier of Victory full of great art over 4 issues of a superstar artist followed by awful 2-3 fill in issues by an absolute shitter.

Can someone tell me why they give writers such long tenures these days? There is no reason why chip and Ram should have been on the bat books for so long.

How long have the runs been?

Ram for 2 years and chip for a bit longer. And neither deserved more than 8 issues.

          Anonymous

Deserve ain't got nothing to do with it. 2 years is not a lot, especially compared to 30-50 years ago.

have a nice day, most runs lasted no more than a handful of issues all throughout the history of comics you casual. Bringing up four or five exceptions doesn’t negate this fact. Cape comics need more turnover not less. Let alone when the writing is so fricking terrible as Chip and Ram have been.

              Anonymous

Why so angry? Do you want all runs to be 8 issues?

                Anonymous

That’s not what I said homosexual. I want shitty writere fired more quickly rather than getting predetermined contracts that seemingly have no cancellations structured in.

Given the reality of the current crop of writers? That means, yes, most writers should spend no more than 15 issues on a series. But that’s without renumbering between them and without letting them treat their first and last issues as chapter one and the last chapter of a book. Like ongoing comics were traditionally written, you know all those comics you’ve never read.

                >I haven't read either run but what's the difference between 1 long 5 year run from a hack and 4 runs in 5 years from 4 hacks
Logical fallacy. Why do they have to hire hacks?

                >I don’t read comics

                >so they should just get job security to feed their families mannnnn
I picked up on that too. Kinda confirms what I said, they seem like a writer trying to argue the low road for their own job security with the premise that “fans call even great writers hacks so what do they know”

It began with a melody, strange and haunting, drawing Batman deeper and deeper into a demonic odyssey. From the sewers under Gotham to a hallucinatory desert, from the brink of death to a strange rebirth, from the iron grip of order to the deadly blades of chaos, it has all led to this moment. And now, the curtains close on Ram V’s epic Gothic Opera!

Waid or Adams. Nightwing is the most popular he's been since the 90s, they'd be dumb not to capitalize on it with a bigger name.

Waid. Nightwing has been a top seller for the last 4ish years. Waid has been wanting to write a solo run for Nightwing since Dixion left the book. They just never gave it to him because they thought he was to high profile for the title. Most of the cards are in place for him to finally get the job. The alternative I'd say would be Ram V.

Bad writers getting guaranteed 2 year runs is what killed comics. There is no debating this. Spurrier’s run is awful so yes 13 issues is far too long. Ram’s detective, Zdarsky’s Batman, Howard’s catwoman, Taylor’s nightwing; all of these comics would sell regardless of the writer.

So we have a random Professor Pygg Flashpoint story, DiDio finally getting to do "what if Dick Grayson died in Infinite Crisis instead of Superboy", and how Scarecrow kidnapped those innocent people when we see him getting the yellow ring in Blackest Night.

      So what about the rest?

On Infinite Earths finally fricking shows us Earth 8, which was the original home to Kyle Rayner, post-Crisis Huntress, Jason Rusch Firestorm, and Breach as the Earth's version of Captain Atom

reveals that the Zamaron and Guardian lied about Booster being a descendent of the New Guardians to get him to go back to being a villain after the Manhunters tricked him to turning evil or a silly story with the Question being offered a chance to be a New Guardian, per Englehart wanting to make Vic the leader of the New Guardians and having to use Pieface instead.

      >>Zero Hour: the final fate of the Team Titans, who didn't even get an on-panel death when they blinked out of existence

      >>The Final Night: Lex Luthor being approached by Brainiac with a chance to flee Earth and turning him down to try and save the planet

Final Crisis: we finally see the fall of society and the planet being taken over by Darkseid through the POV of Cheetah.

Until the accident that turned him into the pliable Plastic Man, Eel was bad to the bone…and just because he no longer has bones doesn’t mean that’s not still true. When an incident on a Justice League mission leads to catastrophic cellular damage, Plastic Man discovers he just might be out of time to make amends for the past he’s tried hard to outrun—or to save the soul of his son, who (unfortunately for him) might have inherited more from dear old Dad than just his superpowers…
The Eisner-nominated creative team of Christopher Cantwell (Briar, Doctor Doom, Halt and Catch Fire) and Alex Lins (Monarch) brings you the five words you thought you’d never read: “hard-boiled Plastic Man noir”! And hey, if we’re crazy enough to greenlight that concept, you won’t believe the things we’re crazy enough to do in this book…

            of Mystery reboot
This if it's tied in to the magic parts of the DCU, just more adult - maybe murder mysteries that need to be solved by the Shadow Pact

NuNotVertigo DC already does a lot of horror books and doesn't need more horror that isn't connected to DC magic and DCU Supernatural

            >Jonah Hex
Maybe not specifically JUST him, but perhaps something like the White Knight elseworld, set in - or an adjacent version - of the Justice Rider universe that features Hex, like the adaptations have, and isn't so tied into clearly being connected to the JLI.

The rest of this is crap on a cracker stale.

I’m sorry Dickgays but Didio coming back after 4 years to write Dick dying is hilarious

It's probably a story that Didiot wrote ages ago, when he still fancied himself a decent writer, that DC is polishing off and presenting as a freshly laid turd.

John has made it all the way out west to Los Angeles, where the line between what’s real and not is paper thin – and that’s before you unleash the power of Dream’s sand. The long-traveled road across America has lead them here…but what sort of evil lurks behind the bright lights of Hollywood?

Deathstroke and Strack are free from prison and ready to take their revenge on the Teen Titans…and on Primer. Can Ashley find a way to track them down, recapture the battery, and save the Titans—even as she reels from Ravager’s betrayal and the loss of the Primer suit?

I totally forgot about this character. This is the style of the cartoon too. Is it set in that continuity or something? Cover reminds me of the fanfics I used to read when I was a kid. Good times.

Why is it when DC decides to give a B/C-lister their own Black Label book it's always the worst concept possible?

I think the Plastic Man concept is cool.

This is funniest fricking plot for this book and I'm upset most anons aren't to laughing at the prospect of Tom King writing a book about the horrors of 9/11

9/11 is literally one of the most definitive moments of the 21st century. So much of politics, culture, pop-culture, and international policy can be traced back to that moment. It makes perfect sense to draw to it when writing a character like Jenny Sparks.
