Deadwood

Deadwood has convinced me that American shows and movies have been poorly written for decades.
Every dialogue in this show is "frick shit dude frick my whole life get pussy and kill that guy and frick him up and shit and frick"

It's like a teenager's understanding of maturity.

We get it. Mom gave you $20 and ordered a pizza on Friday night and still isn't home. You tried to make mac and cheese but got scared when it said to bring water to a boil and you aren't supposed to use the stove by yourself. Why don't you put on your shapes and colors video and maybe the Ms. Rachel playlist mommy made for you? I know you feel alone right now and made a thread to get attention from strangers, but it's Sunday and some of us have work in the morning. Hey, your mommy has work, right? Surely she'll be home any minute so she can barf and take a long hot shower after a long weekend of being the local semen rag, just in time to tuck you in and give you a goodnight kiss. Now toddle off, son. It's getting near beddy-bye time!

Ok I don't know if you're just trolling or underage but just for the sake of promoting honest discussion and learning, I'm gonna explain to you why Deadwood's writing is good.
The characters are human. They aren't good or evil, perfect or awful, they are just human. Then they are put into situations where they need to make choices and deal with various situations. They react in complex, realistic, non caricatural ways.
Now to you this means "nothing happens" but to anyone with a brain it's very rewarding to observe true human behavior and people and not shallow caricatures, especially compared to the average production of tv or any media really. Here is a character that doesn't insult my intelligence. Here is a slice of real life. Here is a scenario that draws from our common humanity and speaks the the true human experience.

Now apply that big brained reasoning to his motivations. Why did he act that way? Now realize that you can extend this galaxy brain analysis to the rest of the characters. Even better, you can then do the same for the show itself, and figure out why it is written the way it is. This is called thinking.

And also to preserve Deadwood's independence, keep his preeminent position in the town, and continue lording it over the hoopleheads. He isn't "evil", he's vain, prideful, and Machiavellian. He's complicated, like every other character. Bullock, who sees himself as a white knight but is driven by tightly controlled rage just below the surface. Jane, who is a deeply damaged person trying to do good but fricks everything up. Frick, even bit parts like the Doc and Mr Wu have complex motivations and implied back stories.

I think this just isn't the show for you and you would be better served watching something you enjoy.

You're moronic. He doesn't actually care for Deadwood's independence and he knows the town will be absorbed into the USA at some point anyway.
Teaming up with highwaymen that attack random families and kill their children does not benefit the town in any way.

You realise he didn't actually plan the attack on the German family right? It was people he works with who did it without his permission. That's why he kills one of the later. He thinks he needs to kill the girl because she can identify them and it'll lead back to him. When he realises he doesn't need to kill her he doesn't. Yes, it's selfish and self preservation, but it's from a man who lives literally outside of society and civilization. Funnily enough you see his behaviour become less guided by purely selfish motivations as the camp slowly coalesces into a community and moves towards civilization, one of the main themes of the show.

So no, he's not completely evil, but you are completely moronic

First of all, moron, they were Norwegians.
Second of all, it was established that they had a long relationship and he often passed them information about lone families travelling across the road and he in turn would get a cut.
He kills them because they fricked it up and left a survivor which could potentially lead back to him, he doesn't care that they did it without permission otherwise.

You're both fricking moronic. Having now seen the town can function without his barbarism, Al is resigned to fate. Advancement and technology, along with bringing polite social and behavioral conventions, to Deadwood has been the evident trend. Besides, he was a relic of the crude past. Of course he dies; that past also died with him. Meanwhile, law and order, and justice, are all retained and maintained by the new way that progress and civilization had brought to Deadwood. We watch a civilization grow from infancy to modernity in the series.

Well done OP, "Deadwood is badly written because they say frick a lot" has strong competition, but I really do think it comes out on top of the "most moronic thing ever uttered on Cinemaphile" list.

Not surprised millennials get mad when that's pointed out.

Image being at a Hollywood party.
Someone mentions all the profanity in Tarantino films.
David Milch then bets the person that he can not only make a movie with more profanity than a Tarantino film,
But make a TV series with more profanity, almost excessive profanity,
    and with more male characters,
so the show comes off as even more homosexual than a Tarantino film,
And that he can get the most respected network of the time period to air the show,
and have the show last multiple seasons.

I imagine they'd have left after the flood or fire (those were apparently gonna be seasons 4 and 5). I suspect there would have been an ongoing storyline to them getting the theater actually open, then opening night, which might have coincided with one of the disasters.

There probably wasn't any greater storyline planned than them symbolising the arrival of "higher" culture
