The ultimate message of the Road is sort of hopeful in a bittersweet kind of way. Basically, the world might be fricked but that doesn't mean you have to fall to despair forever. Sometimes, just choosing to go on is enough.

This is my favourite Coca Cola advert. I think about it every time I crack a can.

Depressing, yes, but it has an optimistic ending and is quite profound a message to fathers. Shame the boy is much older than his book counterpart as he comes across as a whiney moron in the film.

      >bittersweet ending
      >optimistic ending

You guys didn't notice the family at the end were cannibals? They had missing fingers and shit. The kid is about to be the main course.

Yet we hear birds as the credits come. Its about hope and you just made up this shit.

Dumb take. They would've eaten their dog if they were desperste, and only the dad had missing fingers, which could have just as easily been frostbite. Also after the credits you hear them at a beach, happy.

The birds and the beach are lamentations for what we have lost

[>only the dad has missing fingers

He cut them to feed the family. Obviously he would be the first to sacrifice.

          >muuh pupperino

The dog helps them find and track survivors to eat. They wouldn't eat an essential tool.

even worse you dont cut your handy dandy opposable thumb first if youre hungry, the most likely explanation is that he got kicked out of a community for breaking the rules- possibly for chowing on his neighbor

Cormac made the book because he became a father as an old man and was afraid of dying and leaving his kid alone

Yeah, I reread the book a couple months ago and Cormac McCarthy I think had a kid in his 60s or 70s and new he was on the way out. I guess it was his story as the man, trying to teach his kid before his inevitable death and how to try and remain good in a fricked up world. Been a long while since Ive seen the movie though

They couldn't stay forever as supplies would eventually run out and, when that happened, they'd continue their trek in even colder weather than before.

There was a shitload of food and water. At the very least they could have stayed there for a few weeks and built up their strength. Just didn't make sense to leave so soon.

They were in a race against time to get south before it became too cold to walk outside for long without keeling over. I think that's explained better in the book than the film.

I’m reading the book and the sense I got was that other people would find the place and try to kill them so there’d be no competition.

he heard the dog sniffing around outside and realized they weren't safe at all
I agree though they should have stayed
a week of good food and rest would have done wonders

they heard noises outside one day and realized it was only a matter of time before human eating freaks busted open the door and cornered them down there with no where to go. That plus the approaching winter

He heard some sus noises one day and fled with as much supplies as they could carry before they were discovered. Getting caught in that bunker would have been a death sentence.

Um guys, why wasn't there any superheros or funny quips in it? There wasn't even even cameos or ending where all of the good guys team up against all of the bad guys in a epic battle. I could barely watch it since there wasn't enough colour and action scenes to keep me interested.
