Anon has rung the bell of truth
Snyder's a textbook example of failing upwards
The good shit he has done gets more watered down with (almost) every new project
it will be unwatchable because he thinks he doesn't need a focus-puller anymore. the recent test he shot on his phone looked better than the entirety of army of the dead.
>The behind the scenes episode presented by the Netflix Film Club showing the making of ‘Army of the Dead’, reveals the brave cinematography decision by Snyder to shoot the whole movie when the aperture of the lens is wide open (f0.95). “I just feel that it’s a rude thing to ask for a cinematographer…and then if it was a complete frick-up then it would be my fault and I’m fine with that” Snyder says.
>Zack Snyder elaborated on his work as a director, and moreover, as a cinematographer. “I’m going to shoot the entire movie wide-open (0.95). There’s never to be a stop on any lens, for the entire film… and I just feel that it’s a rude thing to ask for a cinematographer” Snyder states. “It’s really about just sort of taking responsibility for the experimental nature of what I wanted to do... and then if it was a complete frick-up then it would be my fault and I’m fine with that” he adds. According to Snyder, the Dream Canon Rangefinders, which was rehoused by ZERØ OPTIK, are characterized by their creamy, and crazy bokeh, which has a solid contribution to tell the story. Nevertheless, shooting wide open demands decent cinematography skills, because every inch counts for accurate focusing.
>The lenses are defined as the “Dream Set” because of Canon 50mm f0.95 “Dream Lens“ which is the heart and soul of this set. That lens got its nickname because of the unique, beautiful, dreamy character it delivers when shot wide open, at its super-fast f-stop of f0.95. ZERØ OPTIK stepped up big, building us a complete set of 1960s Canon Rangefinder lenses that share many of the unique characteristics of the Dream Lens, including the gold single-layer coatings, low-contrast, unique bokeh, gentle fall-off, gold lens flares, low chromatic aberration, and overall “Dreamy” character. All the lenses actually cover beyond full-frame and will cover the entire RED Monstro sensor (the sensor behind ‘Army of the Dead’).

BTW, by analyzing the RED Monstro setup, follow focus was not revealed. If so, Zack didn’t use a focus puller and did all the focusing by himself. Take a look at the BTS footage from trailers. There’s no follow focus in there.

KEK. I remember that he kept saying this shit over and over again in the promo stuff trying to justify his camera setup.
It didn't even have a reason for it because Army of the Dead is a action movie about zombies. It has no reason for all that "dreamy" and out of focus look. It isn't some high fantasy or some thriller about a guy who's hallucinating or dead in the after life or anything.

Don't forget the best part. The lens he bought had scratches on it so the movie has permanent artifacts all throughout.
Imagine being that actress. Imagine thinking to yourself "this is my job, this is what I do with my life." How would she be able to look at herself in the mirror with any sense of pride?

Yep, kino. If you don't get it you just don't and probably have shit taste anyway. It's exactly what it is supposed to be. I pity the plebs that get filtered so easily.
Watchmen is good.
But I agree, that was over a decade ago and he's been consistently shit since then, it's mind boggling how he still has a career, at least normies seem to like JJ's schlock
>An adaptation of Blood Meridian.

His good movies are the ones where he basically only directs. 300 is just a retrace of the comics pages. Whenever he tries to write and be DoP he shits the bed hard. His first zombie movie was good but that's a remake. Dude needs to stay in his lane.
>His good movies are the ones where he basically only directs.
This makes sense, he really doesn't seem like a profound guy capable of writing deep stories, only putting a nice gloss on movies. That's basically what Watchman is, a good base story with Snyder's stamp on it.
I honestly just want Snyder to make something like Fantasia but live action. Just 2 hours of 3+ musical shorts with kino directing to the rhythm of any music he likes. No dialogue whatsoever and barely any plot.
His montages and music videos are pure kino even in otherwise shit movies.
Why are people saying his recent movies are failures? I disliked Army of the Dead but that have a good RT score and made got tons of views. The prequel even more.
This CGI animation.

Some fricked up movie where he will take two high profile actors to go film "documentary" style a movie in South America without warning the locals.
An adaptation of Blood Meridian.
An adaptation of King Arthur legends but during the Gold Rush.
Kek for real? That sounds like enough projects to last a decade or more.
That's a terrible sign too, Watchmen and 300 were good because of a high attention to detail, he's not going to achieve that if he's stretched thin with all of these projects.
>Some fricked up movie where he will take two high profile actors to go film "documentary" style a movie in South America without warning the locals
The way he talks about honestly feels like the making of some snuff film. He says he wants to film real life action and with real people, and real consequences.
It’s insane how 300 is pretty decent but then every other movie with his name on it is just embarrassing.

No, space over here too, Anon.

He filmed with a broken Japanese lenses from the 60s that he bought off of eBay. The lenses didn't even fit the camera.

AotD was kino.
AotD and Alita: Battle Angel are the two best action movies in the past ten years, hands down.
Why is he allowed to make movies? He's like an edgy version of JJ Abrams. And that's not a compliment.
Imagine being that actress. Imagine thinking to yourself "this is my job, this is what I do with my life." How would she be able to look at herself in the mirror with any sense of pride?
Money.
"As an actress I came up with holding my arms backwards in an unnatural position while needlessly open and closing my hands. It's all part of the craft."
Yeah, and the zombies were unrealistic.
Fricking kek.
you expect the director to edit the scene in such a way that you don't look fricking moronic
Because the movie was such a realistic, down to earth vision presented in dark, moody tones that would put Man of Steel to shame.
>be that actress

Frick that movie was so bad, he should be ashamed of himself.
One of the worst directors working today
It’s insane how 300 is pretty decent but then every other movie with his name on it is just embarrassing.
Watchmen is good.
But I agree, that was over a decade ago and he's been consistently shit since then, it's mind boggling how he still has a career, at least normies seem to like JJ's schlock
I actually didn’t watch Watchmen. Forgot that was even him.
I highly recommend it, it's better than 300.

This makes sense, he really doesn't seem like a profound guy capable of writing deep stories, only putting a nice gloss on movies. That's basically what Watchman is, a good base story with Snyder's stamp on it.
jesus christ is this an actual shot from a movie? Feels like something shot on an iPhone
Me too. Extremely. Everything I’ve seen/heard strikes me as pure kino.
>Snyder
So it'll have a bunch of flat-chested ugly chick and roided out homosexual musclemanz and the writing will be abominable dogshit.
What is Snyder's fixation on girls with no boobs anyways
Eh. Athleticism + disliking fake boobs. Also, Carla Gugino.
Gugino is like the token booba in his movies, and she's only like a D cup.
Dropped his movies entirely when Gal Gadot got the wonder woman role
>t. never experienced intense pain or mental troubles
Stay safe, zoomy.
what are you even implying
If you haven't made this face while in pain then how do you even know you are alive?
what face?

Blueprint for direct to tv capeshit that no one watches whoa
Zack's last 3 movies were trash. Why should this be any different.
Only the stuff he filmed himself was trash (AotD and ZSJL backyard reshoots).
What failures? Army was 6/10 at best.

>An adaptation of Blood Meridian.
pls god no
Netflix is in the shitter in case you haven't been paying attention.
Reminder.
Why does Bryan Cranston exclusively do voice acting roles these days?
