S1 and 2 aged like fine wine.
Haven't rewatched the rest as of yet, doubt I'll watch past 4 again.

I miss when Dexter was still a weirdo who married Maria because he thought he wouldn't have to frick her.

I liked how in season 1 the writers fully committed to making him an honest to god turbo-autist that is barely comfortable with kissing girls, but in season 2 they already fricked it up by making him a sex having normie.

    Season 4 is terribly overrated.

Dexter is not rewatchable because it focuses too much on him being an autistic freak. Every scene where he tries to interact with normal people is just cringe. The show would be more watchable if in his day to day life he was more normal. Instead it romanticizes this idea that serial killers are these deep troubled people with ''dark compulsions'' who struggle every day to fight their demons and can't relate to people because they don't understand feewings 🙁
In real life the serial killers who aren't glue sniffers led normal lives. Dexter is clearly inspired by Ted Bundy who was very social and well adjusted.

Some of Dexter's autism led to good comedy moments but they were rare, it's mostly just cringe and frustrating.

      >In real life the serial killers who aren't glue sniffers led normal lives.
      Name some.
      >Ted Bundy who was very social and well adjusted.
He wasn't any of those things. He'd been arrested multiple times as a kid and no one in his social circle liked him.

I think you are mistaking being able to fake emotions and charisma with actually having emotions and charisma.

Anyone recounting an encounter with a serial killer is always, oh they were so nice, didn’t see it coming at all, for the people in their daily lives. Their victims get the same facade except they fricking kill them

His autistic shit is what makes interactions with other characters funny

For Dexter, it was women writers specifically.

He knew social cues enough to do and say the right things to make himself more endearing, but nothing he did was in earnest. Also he's genuinely attractive and fit with a great job so it's not going to be hard to get a gf.

He was certainly a psycho, but he was trained well how to act normal so he comes off as a functional autistic with little guidance.

We see other, "real" psychos and they don't act like him.

They weren't trained like he was. Hes completely devoted to keeping up an entire mask and personality so he can use it as a cover.

He's just a hell of a lot more empathic than the others and it has nothing to do with the code.

people need to remember his cop dad trained him to be the perfect serial killer, its not like hes self taught or anything. And even then several people were able to see through his cracks eventually

Compare Dexter to his brother for one. Brian fit in way better even though he had no code to go by.

I liked the social commentary of it. Here was a killer who had everyone except doakes fooled by simply faking social niceties. All these detectives strutting around acting smug but couldn't detect the killer right under their noses.

The idea is that Killers can be anybody, and you don't know. They can, however, sniff out their own.
It's like the line from rounders where Damon is like "now we're not working together, but it's like the sharks on the discovery Channel, you never see them eating each other"

Doakes had military background and was also a Killer, like Dexter he found morally viable ways to satisfy his urge for killing. Dexter however, did not find a LEGALLY tenable way (like Doakes)

Watching it right now. I'm at the part where Lumen leaves Dexter after he's done all her dirty work for her. John Lithgow was a Kino villain. Hopefully he'll return later.

Hate the way they sanitized his killing to make him more palatable
Should've just kept the dark passenger as a literal demon too
