DEXTER s08 ending

I know I'm like fricking decade late and I know this is a shitty one off thread that will probably not get any replies but I need to fricking vent.
Frick this shit ending. I'm seriously fricking mad. I would murder anyone responsible for writing this with my own fricking hands right now.
Every fricking female in this goddamn shitshow, and that is including Debra, was a constantly annoying woman moment piece of shit but when they finally make me like her very fricking much in like season 5 or 6, this is the fricking ending they write for her? And for everyone else, for that matter?
Shouldn't have watched this before sleeping. GOd I think I will take a walk.
Shitty pic from google because I just don't give a fcuk right now.
Oh yeah, spoiler alert for a decade old show. Frick both you and me.

so, the abysmal seasons 6 and 7 didn't tip you off where this show was going?

I guess not. I still enjoyed the mystery and by extension, the show itself.
I also quickly realized I just have to turn off my brain and to not think too much about the logic of what was happening on screen, the endless suspicious coincidences and plot contrivances. I mean, already in season 1 I thought that for a supposedly intelligent guy who's first rule is to not get caught, Dexter was a really fricking moronic and didn't get caught only because the plot was written so. This just didn't bother me too much.
The thing is, on the emotional level I enjoyed the show for the whole time, until the end. I loved watching Lumen and thought her story was interesting. Anyway. I really liked her, and not just because I am a Julia Stiles fan.
But worse for me, I am a little b***h sucker for familial fidelity and other family shit, which is why I really fricking enjoyed Dexter's relationship with Debra, especially when they started developing it more in season 6, even despite the fricking blonde prostitute being present for the whole time, whom I just expected to fricking die every other episode. Which is why I am so fricking mad about this fricking sucker punch of a conclusion.
God I don't even remember the last time I got so mad over a TV show.

Season 7 was shitty kino. It finally found itself in the bad writing and stupidity and just embraced it, so it felt fun.
Season 8 was an absolute mixed bag. I think the season's biggest crime was that the second to last episode was actually half decent. So I remember tricking myself into thinking that they might actually end it on a bang despite the garbage season.
Never has an ending pissed me off that badly though.
New Blood came close I must admit however

Anyway, should I watch s9? Will it make me feel better? Otherwise I am dropping this and forgetting about it as soon as I manage to.

The ending is arguably even worse than the S8 one, don't bother.

          >I always wanted the series to end with Dexter being killed by his Elliot-Paige-looking-son after going through an angsty phase and then subsequently driving off into the sunset while Dexter lies bleeding out in the snow with no actual conclusion to his life of serial-killing
          Woah, snap!

You're supposed to only watch the first season. Don't fall for the four seasons meme, every scene without John Lithgow still sucks and you'll feel too invested to drop the show.

I remember giving up on the show after the fifth or sixth episode of season 8, it was unbearable and I couldn't take it anymore. I looked up the ending after everyone went apeshit to see what the fuzz was about and goddamn was it terrible. Luckily I didn't really care at that point.

Everything after Season 4 is not canon. It never happened. It doesn't exist. Season 9 doesn't exist either.

Pretty funny that Dexter was a lumberjack on one side of the country and traveled all the way to the other side of the country between season 8 and 9 and Angel *still* randomly managed to run into him. Nice writing. Very cool.

It was the symbolism of God the ultimate killer deciding Dexter was not worth murdering then and there because he was not a bad person but a true hero because God loves psychopaths and so do israelites I mean you.

    >"it'd take miracle to save her now"

Should've ended with him just fricking off into the hurricane to die by himself, but he survives it and because that is a miracle Deb opens her eyes. Corny as frick but not a total frick you move like killing the best character at the last second

I will try really hard to make myself believe that this is actually how it ended. Corny as frick indeed but I don't give a shit. Thanks anon.
I thought only Japanese are able to produce this kind of shit ending to long running series but I guess GoT and now also this show exists. Also Battlestar Galactica, if I remember correctly.

yea, it sucked ass. just imagine a different ending and make it your headcannon.

and if you want a palate cleanser, watch the wire. not only is it a superior show, by far, but it also has the best tv show ending ever. the canonical example of what a bittersweet ending should be.
i'll happily accept people saying they prefer the sopranos or BB overall, but when it comes to endings, the wire is the best one. by far.

Reminder: the guy who played Dexter was completely done with the series and said he'd only ever come back to play the role if the script was well done and the story made sense. He then came back for New Blood where the script was awful and the story not only did not make sense, but it's like the creators didn't watch the previous seasons. Harrison should be like 8 or 10 years old.

Wasn't he credited as an executive producer of at least the last season? I think I caught his name credited as such in the OP. Surely from this position he had a say in how the show is supposed to be done?

The show ended for me at season 4. Everything after that is fan fiction that NEVER HAPPENED OKAY.
I have the same policy with the alleged sopranos movie. NEVER HAPPENED.

      true, true.
such a shame they never made s02 of the The Terror neither. or Altered Carbon.
and i bet GoT would've been awesome if it ever made it past s04.
oh, what about House of Cards? again, such a shame they stopped at s02, that show was a real banger.

In my head canon, dexter gets away lives in Brazil with the aid of facial reconstructive surgery.

This was pretty meh overall but it felt really satisfying that they went out of their way to put in a happier ending than the main series, and then I wondered "If it's really that easy, how does every 'continuation' from Dexter to Star Wars botch it"
