Goddamn that is the most pretentious block of screencaps I've ever read.

What an absolute c**t frick to suggest that someone like Ansel Adams is dull or boring because he perfected the landscape photograph.

If you've been to Yellowstone, Ansel Adams is boring. Frick, if you've even been outside Ansel Adams is boring. His photographs have a serious tendency to remove the sublime from the real thing.

Ansel Adams is the progenitor of Soft White Underbelly type stuff. Or Ann Geddes. Turns something people already value into products. At least Warhol is snarky about it.

The only way it's not boring is if you've never left the city.

As a kid, I hated photorealistic paintings that many (Americans) did for a pasttime. Later on, I saw they were practicing the basic of mixing colors (oil or watercolor), using painting as relaxation, training their power of observation + memories, motor skills, and doing art-adjacent besides keeping up with their bills. But Renoir still fell on the naturalism side, not high artifice like Powell-Pressburger or Hitchwiener.

    technical perfection does not exist
the film industry just cares more about being an industry than an artistic tradition
there is no striving anymore there are only investors and propagandizing

He handles it in a pompous French way. A German would recognise it as the loss of the ideal in art that allows for it to fall into mere technique.

This. Also everything is a diverse, feminist retelling that has zero correlation with reality and says absolutely nothing about human nature
