    Can we discuss the comic?
I wish we got to see a spin of that Mark went back to the past and Rex didn't go crazy because of it, I liked him when he was a robot. Also the dinosaur guy was sad for me, he was cool and saved Mark sad that without supervision he killed lots of people.

100%. The cast was too white for modern day, so Kirkman had to pick some less important characters to brownify. And, to Kirkman--if you've read through the comics of Walking Dead--being a black woman means being a catty and apathetic b***h all the time, going by Micchone.

  12. 2 years ago

Being a superhero is a full time job with life threatening consequences and only a fricking idiot would willingly choose to be Mary Jane unless she was truly in love. There was a mature way to say that wasn't for her, but framing it as some kind of honesty test is fricking crazy. If Mark came out and said honestly, "Yeah, I'm Invincible. That's my face getting caved in by the villain of the week and someday it might be yours," and that would be the difference between her staying with him, she's legitimately insane.

  13. 2 years ago

I don't just hate Amber. I hate that the show writers clearly were taking her side based on how the whole thing was approached. They seriously thought she was completely reasonable, and that seriously makes me worry for the upcoming seasons.

      Anonymous

Spot on, anon. She snapped at him and suffered no consequences. Also, she knew about it during the reanimen attack on the campus and still gave him shit about it with no chance to explain (even though she wanted Mark to explain it to her, the thing she already knew).

I hope they break up between seasons and never mention her again. What a mess.

        Anonymous

What I really want to see is how they handle her in the future. Kirkman has shown he tends to at least notice and acknowledge fan perspectives to his work, so he is definitely aware that LITERALLY EVERYBODY - not just white males but black males and females, feminists, MRAs, etc. are all united in seeing Amber as a stupid entitled butthole. So will the future seasons show the other characters find her as insufferable as the audience? Will she have any kind of epiphany? Will they double down on her?

They were both wrong. Mark should have realized that he was unable to balance being a hero in training and being in a relationship with Amber. So he should have either told her he's a hero or broken up with her. And Amber upon finding out that Mark was a hero should have confronted him about it instead of keeping it to herself.

Been listening to a lot of Surviving Infidelity reddit stories on youtube lately, and when it's the woman cheating, they will absolutely place all blame squarely on the man for any shitty thing they do. It's insane how they'll go from crying and apologetic to wanting to ruin the guy in the same day because they didn't accept their affair. In one instance, this woman was cheating for months, the guy found out, started acting just like her by hiding his phone and not telling her anything or showing affection, and she had the nerve to finally dress the guy down and ask point blank if he was cheating. He just laughed in her face and walked out, then watched her texts in real time as she told her affair partner about it all distraught.

"You lied to me" is all a certain kind of woman needs to feel entitled to do whatever they want. Even if she was doing it before the offense.

So many people experienced her first hand not knowing how poorly handled she got in the animated adaptation and lapped up all of the poor writing for her at face value. Fortunately she doesn't amount to much and is an after thought continuing on from here until her final appearances later.

Making her black honestly made zero difference to the character other than ticking political agenda boxes at the end of the day, so that was hilariously pointless.

This b***h knew Mark was a hero before their college trip. I hate her so fricking much. All she had to do was confront him about his hero life and break up with him because he couldn't balance being a hero and being in a relationship well. But instead she kept it to herself, got mad at him for hiding a secret identity while he saved lives right in front of her.

Amber did have a point, Mark was terrible at balancing his responsibilities. But the way she handled it was so fricking bad that she lost all sympathy.

      Anonymous

Exactly this. Amber breaking up with Mark is perfectly understandable. She can acknowledge that it's not in any way Mark's fault, but that he simply can't give her the committed relationship she wants. If the writers really wanted to run with the whole "I figured it out months ago" thing they could've had her postpone breaking up as to not negatively impact Mark's superhero work, only for her to realize there's no such thing as a good time to break up with someone.

Everyone who's watched Invincible hates Amber. Every person I talked to about it said that she was a dumbass and that Mark deserves better.

One anon already put things perfectly. [...]. Mark was the jerk who kept stringing Amber along, and to make matters worse he'd even lie about it, and then continue doing things as he did.

            >Mark was the jerk who kept stringing Amber along
That's disingenuous. He tried to make a normal relationship work while being a superhero, but failed to. Your phrasing makes it seem like he was leading her on.

Plus, she's not blameless; if she "knew all along," then her b***hing him out for saving people's lives is extremely petty and inconsiderate to a degree that doesn't equivocate what's been done to her.

Mark accidentally hurt Amber; Amber went out of her way to vindictively hurt Mark rather than just ending a relationship that wasn't working out.

              Anonymous

Head get caught bullshitting her, make this huge production about "never lying like that again baby",(knowing THAT is a lie), get caught and do it again. And his lies were so stupid and off-the-cuff an 8 yr old could see through them.

Mark lives with a Superhero who's been in a relationship and is married to his Mom. All his Dad's friends (who is he is shown to have been exposed to) have spouses/romantic interests.

But instead of taking their example, or ASKING THEM for advice, he goes off of stupid shit from Dog comics. It's like your Father and all his friends are cops, but you take all your cues on being an aspiration cop from watching Inspector Gadget. Mark is a moron who's first instinct is dishonesty.

              Anonymous

No. It's not disingenuous. Mark was leading her on. He continuously made plans he never followed through on, nor intended to follow through. And then when he was asked why he couldn't follow through, he lied. And then, when asked if he was lying, he lied again.
Literally all Amber did was dump Mark. That's all she did. She didn't do anything vindictive like you say. All she did was break up with him. And for very good reasons. Mark couldn't balance his private life and his work life, and when he swore to her that he could, not only did he fail, but he continued lying as to why, and kept asking for second chances, three, four, five, ten times over.
