As based and actually original that would be, I kind of want Zach to do the "American taken captive by drug cartel and only knows how to say numbers" bit from Sleepycabin.
I feel like that gag has been done before. It's basically the same thing as the Rick and Morty April Fools Day episode. It seems like that's what this will end up being considering it's a special episode of a show that has only had 8 episodes and is known to frick with the audience.
I think I heard about it once in one of the earliest threads we had after season 1 premiered, and then never again after that until now. I just assumed it was a hoax
It gave me several hearty belly laughs. And I am a sad sad shut in loser with a heart of coal who doesn't feel anything but misery anymore. Like the guy in the first episode. So yeah is good.
Now is the time to be creative. Your creativity is better in misery. Go try and make something. Put your all into it, do multiple drafts/be very detailed. Go ahead. What do you have to lose?
>I didn’t even know the Internet personalities involved in making it, so yeah it did great
Same
Though I did instantly recognize David Firth when the shrimp spoke
It also works without it since I didn't know shit about Jerry Jackson, but I loved the character. They made a very smart move by writing jokes and including cameos and in-jokes that also work as actual jokes without you needing to get the reference.
Is that really an in-joke/cameo? Or is it just that they liked the voice and are fans of David Firth? It's the same thing as Family Guy hiring the Jerky Boys guy to play Mort.
It's not like the shrimp acts like Jerry Jackson or references the character at all, doesn't seem to be a nod to fans. I think you guys just assume anything internet related is a "hey, remember this?" when in reality it's the same lol random humor Zach has always used.
It did alright. I believe that it has potential moving forward to get into the swing of things. Most of the jokes in S1 were in oneyplays/sleepycabin so some original jokes would be nice
Considering AS has no shows besides R&M and Robot Chicken that brings in ratings. If this does relatively well going on forward, I can see it lasting 5 seasons to 7 seasons. Smiling Friends is cheap to make which also helps.
Yeah, they said they made the whole season 1 for less than an episode of Family Guy. They also said the budget was similar to what Aqua Team Hunger Force got. There are interviews where they break down their cost-saving endeavors. Basically, there is a lot of bureaucracy that makes the animation system more costly than it should be. And since Zach knows how to animate and he works with the animation team he helps them cut costs along the way. It's actually really interesting. People like to act like corporations are these 100 percent money-efficient machines when sometimes they do costly things cause that's just how things always worked and they don't want to rock the boat or, they don't even know how to change something to be cheaper.
It cost 2 million overall, but I'm pretty sure that also includes the voices.
Doesn't Seth voice most of the cast?

Yeah, and a small circle of regulars who get a lot of cash. Same with Smiling Friends how it was mostly those two voicing the bulk of the characters and the occasional cameo/semi-regular like Marc M.

They don't do it for free, 225k dollars per episode, plus the tip
Of course animation works that way, it's like any other business that sells a product. If you've ever worked a job in your life then you'd learn that company spending isn't black and white and that you get a big budget until you've earned it. I also don't believe the ATHF comment, it's probably his assumption and also makes him appear like an underdog. ATHF started with virtually no budget back in the early 2000s (far less than any show ever has), you can hear them talk about it in old interviews and it makes sense because AS didn't really exist yet. Maybe Zach is comparing his budget to a regular later season ATHF, which is not that insane, especially considering that the show was on TV for 11 seasons and had 15 years of renegotiating. ATHF basically built adult swim into a household name.
If he expects to get a Rick and Morty season 1 budget then that's just incredibly naive. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland had years of experience prior, Dan also had a huge presence in the industry and carried a lot of weight for negotiating power. You can't really compare first season budgets of a show if you haven't had a track record. Also, adult swim is arguably the cheapest place in town which is why they would even give the freedom to allow for a show like Smiling Friends or other shows like Xavier, ATHF, Squidbillies, Metalocalypse. It's well known that the more a company spends the more control and safety they will have on the spending.
sure, it showed executives that low quality poorly writen sitcom style adult cartoons is the proper investment and all the complaining about trying something different or with more effort is fruitless.
based, frick those tryhard """lore heavy""" cartoons every animation fan pretends is worth making

looks like they do get some funding from the aussie government, which probably helps
I love the show. The premise the characters the art style the animation the fast-paced writing. Seriously it's amazing how they can make 11 minutes feel like 22 minutes, in a good way. It hits every mark for a nice show that's super funny. It hits just right in every category. It also refuses to do all the shitty writing traps most shows fall into nowadays. Just little things. Like this show feels real. Like I am immersed in their world and nothing feels like stupid bullshit.
i just really hate the pink guy's voice
pisses me off, just like the rock dude from thor
it's not the accent, there's something about that *way* of talking that annoys me
Zach, point yourself out you long nosed frick face, I know you are there somewhere.
My favorite episode was the mouse quest one, but the favorite moment was when Pim got back to the Halloween party, and the black face monster got mogged by the party goers for being literally black face.
It made me heehee so I think it did.
It did fine. But there is nothing else to talk about
New pic
I hope nothing to interesting happens, the idea of it just being a pleasant uneventful episode would be hilarious.
As based and actually original that would be, I kind of want Zach to do the "American taken captive by drug cartel and only knows how to say numbers" bit from Sleepycabin.
>Pim and Charlie get kidnapped by cartel and have to answer Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide trivia

It got renewed, and we have a bonus Season 1 episode coming out soon.
So probably.
Wait what? I knew that it got renewed, but this is the first I'm hearing about a bonus episode, not that I'm complaining.
I just found out recently too, but it was announced a month ago.
Smiling Friends go to Brazil, see

It made me smile so it succeeded
I LOVE KIDS
It's okay and a brand original new style rather than another Family Guy or Rick and Morty wannabe so yeah
Well I loved it, and I didn’t even know the Internet personalities involved in making it, so yeah it did great
>I didn’t even know the Internet personalities involved in making it, so yeah it did great

>David Firth
Isn't that the guy who made that series about a creepy green man...thing?
He also did burnt face man
Not Stanley is hilarious
I'm still fricking floored that they went out of their way to reference fricking Jerry Jackson of all things.
It also works without it since I didn't know shit about Jerry Jackson, but I loved the character. They made a very smart move by writing jokes and including cameos and in-jokes that also work as actual jokes without you needing to get the reference.

What would have happened if they did in the end managed to get cwc to voice the puddle.
So how many seasons do you think it'll last? My guess is probably 3
i know zach said he didn't wanna do more than like five.
Two or three seasons is pretty average for a show like this. I wouldn't expect five unless it explodes to the degree Rick and Morty did.
I heard 10, like 10 seasons was the cut-off limit for him. He compared it to south park.
5 seasons? 10 seasons? How can someone assume that after having only done 1 season of a show? It's not like it had Simpsons ratings.
Zach said in an interview that even if the show is successful, he wouldn't want to drag it out past so many seasons.
Are you intentionally being obtuse or do you really lack basic reading comprehension?
Considering AS has no shows besides R&M and Robot Chicken that brings in ratings. If this does relatively well going on forward, I can see it lasting 5 seasons to 7 seasons. Smiling Friends is cheap to make which also helps.
>Smiling Friends is cheap to make
Really?
Cusack and Hadel are both used to making good animation on a tight budget.
Season 1 cost less than an episode of Family Guy.

But until family guy expensive on just the voice actors alone?
It cost 2 million overall, but I'm pretty sure that also includes the voices.

when does helluva boss start again?
According to Zach, the show has been doing really well on hbo max
Inb4 the newgrounds guest voice for the episode is Cory

It was good, but the first episode is the best of the series.
What's your number two and three?
Probably the halloween one then the enchanted forest or charlie dies.
Mine would be Hell, and the Psalty one. Shrimp was great too because the Pim's dream was way too hilarious to me.
i just really hate the pink guy's voice
pisses me off, just like the rock dude from thor
it's not the accent, there's something about that *way* of talking that annoys me
Pim's kind of the punching bag of the show, tho. Since he gets cucked and mentally traumatized regularly.
Yes, but all the critical acclaim is from a small audience since [as] gave it one of the shittest timeslots known to man
Zach, point yourself out you long nosed frick face, I know you are there somewhere.
