Nah, leftist film snobs still jerk off to "Get Out." It's baffling, but they act like it's a masterpiece of cinema.

I actually think it was a watershed moment for film criticism. Before then film critics were leftist BUT still somewhat took objective film quality into consideration when reviewing films.

But since Get Out? As long as they parrot the approved identity politic talking points they'll give the film a 5/5 and label them masterpieces. Case in point: a year after "Get Out" the same crap happened with "Black Panther." Now it seems like it happens multiple times per year.

It's funny to hear people complain about audiences not having "proper media literacy" when critics don't have any, themselves.

I have a theory that most East Asians are just genetically prone to being conformist. There’s something in their DNA that makes become good little goys to whatever dominant culture/voice exist in their societies. That’s why all the East Asian countries become collectivist one way or another, doesn’t matter where you go: Japan, to Taiwan all the way down to Singapore.

And who’s telling them to hate white people? Schools, the media, entertainment, etc.

Since the early 2010s, the left has won the culture war (whether you like it or not). Asian Americans are just following what’s being shown and told to them everywhere, without any critical thinking, even to the point of extreme cognitive dissonance.

As someone who went to university with many asians (UC Berkeley), I realized most of them are extremely acute with rote memorization of whatever is taught to them. They will study and ingrained in their brains whatever is being taught, not questioning WHY what they’re being taught is the way it is or HOW it came to be. They just go to class, absorb information, go back home/dorms and memorize.

They lack critical thinking that whites have. Maybe thats why they’re not very innovative people, but they’re damn good at stealing technologies that white people/country have invented and replicating those technologies efficiently fast and effectively useful.

Anyways this discussion is better had on pol so I’ll stop it here.

Oh, I certainly am. I was just thinking about how quickly this movie was just slapped onto streaming services without any further paywalls and then just left there, never to be periodically taken down / cycles around for hype, since.
Want to watch a Mel Gibson film? Pay up, sucker.
            Everything everyblah blah blah?
            SURE! Here it is!

I don’t trust modern “cinema” at all. It’s almost always some sort of social engineering / pro-collectivist propaganda.

Exactly. That is the default mindset. Another recent movie that was hyped for surreptitious ideological pretenses: Anatomy of a Fall ("men le weak, le bad, le uncreative" etc)

                Checked.

I do the leg-work for us both and differentiate, for anyone who comes along after this, between films and television that have a message of any stripe, social, political, etc. , and modern cinema which is data driven, designed scientifically specifically to sway the minds of the masses. A psyop, in other words.

                Good chat. Be well, anon.
                I’m off to go study.

Low standards of this god awful time we live in. Also if you recast this and made it mostly white and male, it would have been considered a nice little movie and gotten some pity awards from smaller sources.

I mean this in the most genuine way possible, as I've pondered what exactly rubbed me the wrong way about it:
Reddit movie. That's it, unironically. That's the best way to put it. The Bagel thing comes to mind as the epitome.
Or, as the Family Guy meme goes, but here again, completely unironically, 'it insists upon itself'.
And also, the other thing I was able to come up with to explain it, though again, it wasn't easy to put into words, it lacks a sort of 'elegance', which I felt even as a comedy with its tone it failed to have.
The only truly good scene for me was the one parodying 2001, the implication of the extinction of normal-handed people in a single event and without a single word spoken and all those hotdogs dangling made me have a hearty kek and I found it kinda brilliant.
As for the rest, it's the 'deep' and 'artsy' film for people who haven't seen or appreciated films that truly exhibit those qualities.

this movie, and all other "multiple universe" things make me feel very tired...

like, if a version of "ME" is already doing something in another universe, why should "I" do anything? I'm already doing it! I already did it!

what's my motivation to do anything? am I the version of me that notices the pointlessness of it all?

good thing it's just fiction, and there actually IS a point to doing things, but this type of propaganda media seems very counter-productive to me

Yes. Ben-Hur was a product of a different era. Everything everywhere all at once was poignant, creative, and well represents the Asian American lower middle class. It also was original in the topics it covered that made it accessible to all audiences. Not just Asian diaspora.

There were much better options that year:
      Top Gun Maverick
      Banshees of Inisherin
All Quiet on the Western Front
      Triangle of Sadness
Even Tár would have been a better option. EEAAO "winning" so many Oscars was clearly the result of a deliberate, heavyhanded manipulation that backfired because it made the Oscars (and by extension Hollywood) even more unreliable and irrelevant.

I love slipstream sci-fi. This had all the trappings of slipstream but a completely paint-by-numbers Save the Cat script that was completely predictable. I also didn't find it funny. I can't see this film appealing to anyone besides, like, Chinese-American Rick and Morty fans.

A slow year and a good movie makes for lots of awards. It deserved its wins, the real story is how shit the rest of the field was (and routinely is) to be so easily beaten. If the industry can put out one actually solid movie in a year it'll crush every category, which is what happened with EEAaO.
