Yes. I liked it more than I had expected, but less than I liked Fury Road. I rewatched Fury Road the next day and it confirmed my feelings.

In the credits for Furiosa they even showed Fury Road scenes and it just made me wistful for seeing that movie in theaters again

Yeah it was great. Giving her a love interest that was a dead ringer for Max was kind of a weird choice tho

I’m probably autistic because I looked away during the credits, I want to rewatch fury road this week and seeing them recap the entire movie in two minutes would ruin that rewatch

Sets up some of the context for her being such a dick to Max in Fury Road. Reminds her of him, and to not make the same mistake. I think she has a line like "you are not anywhere near as good as he was" or something like that in FR. Could be off I have not watched FR recently.

It was better than I expected, but worse than Fury Road.
I didn't like how muted the score was compared to Fury Road's constant intense score and I especially hated the credits being a clip-show of a better movie.

It's a film that seemed determined to spend time filling in the little lore gaps from Fury Road, but they didn't need to be filled in. It was fine that there was a wider world that we only saw a snippet of. At least the things that the gaps were filled with weren't shit, and I appreciate that, because so many other franchises (like Star Wars) are cursed to have lore explained in the worst possible way.

It's not a film I felt I needed to see, but it's not a film I regret seeing. I might even watch it again some day.

I think this about sums it up. There is no point in this movie. We didn't need to learn more about Furiosa, Immortan or the Citadel. In fact the mystery surrounding it is better. Less is more, as they say. And there is no stakes anyway since we know the fates of both Furiosa and Immortan and it'd be pretty easy to figure out how Dementus ends up from the get go.

B-movies work by imagining the plot details on the periphery yourself. Not like Furiosa is Sherlock Holmes or Ripley. Lucas/Disney/MCU have ruined pop culture.

      >Am I the only one who thinks Charlize was a better Furiosa?
Charlize was blessed with better writing. This backstory is mostly subpar garbage bottom of the barrel stuff should never have been put to film, just info for the filmmakers to have for her character.
There were so many things about this story that I just would want to unlearn. Green place was especially bothersome. Bunch of nu-hippies having a perfect Wakanda tier city that's hidden from the rest of the hell-world hellscape... absolute childish tripe and not something I expected out of Miller.
MM universe feels like Star Wars now.

I think the Green Place is fine in the context of Fury Road, which is that it didn't last, nor would such a place last in such a violent world. Furiosa just shows what the place was already described as being in Fury Road, which I think is fine.

his character was completely different depending on what part of the film you were in. we had to believe he was megacompetant and charismatic at one point, then incompetant, then a Joker-like chaos agent later. it wasn't even close to being properly thought-out.

        Anonymous

Agreed. It felt like he read the script and decided he was going to mimic every single villian he could think of in the last 20 years into a single character. It was just bizarre.

          Anonymous

it wasn't only Hemsworth, the script itself just kept changing its mind about him. Miller used a different approach when introducing him to every later scene in the movie: in his early scenes he's quiet, calm and threatening.
then immediately after crucifying Furiosa's mommy he becomes the only protagonist of the movie for a while until he's gotten control of Gastown via an obvious bluff. it's literally all wrong and Miller is the main culprit.

I really disliked the movie being split into 5-6 acts with title screens and time jumps and stuff. It felt disjoint and jarring compared to Fury Road which just felt like one smooth never ending sequence.

The scope and time frames of the two movies are completely different.

I felt the opposite. The chapters helped give it a clear progression and eased transitions. The fact that Miller can go from a brutal, traumatic, and sadistic end of chapter one. Cut cleanly into a similarly sadistic yet lighter and almost black comedy in chapter two is impressive. It sets up and defines the relationship between Dementia and Furiosa, while still giving you a chance to see how the warband is formed and have some fun.

                Anonymous

Agreed with the use of chapters but disagree on the "brutal", "traumatic", and "sadistic". The story aims for these, for sure, but falls well short of attaining them.

                Anonymous

I feel that chapter one captures all of those easily. Having out protagonist watch their mother get disemboweled and tortured for a unspecified amount of time is traumatic by any measure. I would also say it's sadistic and brutal.

How so? Being a competent nomadic warlord doesn’t translate into being a good factory manager, he managed to retain his army by charisma and offering bigger stuff doing what he was good at(war), trying to take over the citadel was only logical going by his personality so I don’t see what was inconsistent about him.

          Anonymous

Yeah, it's even shown how his warband is basically made up of various sub groups that kind of work with him, more than for him.
When he has to employ the Trojan Horse tactic, by painting one of his men white as a warboy, the guy goes "I don't take orders from you" and looks at his boss (the guy in black with the horns) who gives the go ahead and tells him to listen to Dementus.

He was a conqueror the whole time. He's great at tearing up the wasteland but not at staying in one spot and managing something, he's the Alexander, Hannibal, Ghengis Khan of the Mad Max world.

        Anonymous

He was about as consistent as you can be when you are a drugged up sadistic biker warlord. Part of his character is realizing that he isn't the king shit he thought he was out in the wastes. Joe shows him up multiple times and you can see his inability to lead with any real organization. He degrades back into a small time raider and is willing to throw anyone to the wolves if it means he can survive. He isn't terribly intelligent but thinks he is, and is smarter than those around him. He's relentless and cruel, but charismatic, entertaining, and resourceful.
His character was a welcome change from the usual.

I wouldn’t say the movie was bad, at least when compared to most modern blockbusters, but he took the note of “make this for women” and ran with it well enough, I actually liked the actress who played young furiosa she had a better stage presence than I expected. But he needed to give it a heart it was missing and that fury road never needed.

          >The truck sequence comes to mind
I couldn't have been more bored.
None of the new characters in this matter because they aren't around in Fury Road. It's almost like when they introduced a character in The Walking Dead and you knew they were just there to die dramatically after a few episodes. Disposable.

I liked the truck scene. It was fun. The stakes are the shear danger of the actions. crawling all over, fixing bits and pieces while under attack and the co pilot getting sucked under.
A great example is Furiosa being stuck between the grill and the ramming bar as the Driver floors it to take out the front car. It's the same appeal as Road Warrior and Fury Road, if anything it's derivative.

None of it was even remotely interesting let alone thrilling because it's all cgi nonsense.

This is in stark contrast with let's say Road Warrior where it was all practical effects on location and done in front of the camera entirely.

It was 6.5/10. Miscast, bad pacing, no real focus. Maybe more like a 6.

The timeline for the Mad Max universe makes zero sense. The world collapsed and the population had to move into the desert within living memory. Somehow humanity goes back to tribal warfare and scavenging within like, 20 years? Max is still a cop in the first movie

I liked it despite its many flaws (and despite the fact Furiosa's love interest was originally meant to be a filthy niggorc), but I'm glad it's flopping.

Is basically what people here are saying in case you're wondering. There's only two types that do this: holes and shills. There's a reason why it's getting owned by Garfield.

Biggest disappointment was scrotus. The video game wasn't amazing in terms of story but scrotus at least had a big presence and some style. Meanwhile in the movie he was just there to kind of scare rictus a little despite lacking in physicality. And sure, corpus got to bully rictus anyway despite being the size of a baby, but still, he had his intellect instead. Scrotus doesn't seem moronic enough to obviously be a poor candidate like Rictus while he has a good body unlike corpus, so why wasn't he good enough an heir for joe? He may be a bit psycho but he doesn't seem any more psycho than the average wasteland shitter

Its awesome. Saw it a second time because im still mad i didnt watch fury road in the cinemas twice and i enjoyed it even more than the first time i watched it. The Cinemaphile trolling is unfair and upsets me. Movies like this are being made less and less and most of this board is celebrating.

Same bro. It had some issues, but all of these movies do. And yet they still kick ass.

      >Fury Road was already mediocre
      This 100%
I cannot understand people fellating it as tis grand and profound step forward for action movies. Almost everything displayed on screen either fricked up the timelines or the lore, which was already sagging under the weight of "whatever George thinks is cool today", or was in defiance of basic physics or social logic. You have to be the kind of person that can totally switch their brain off and be carried by visual and auditory bombast in order to enjoy Fury Road.

'Babe' is unironically George Miller's best movie by far.

Big fan. Miller is a great action director and it's nice for a change to see a film of this scale explore character development and get into the lore or backstory with this level of talent and creativity. I usually dislike Chris Hemsworth but he killed it here and was basically as good a villain as Immortan Joe in Fury Road if not better. Was just a very cool interesting prequel.

I don't like the remake mad max and don't understand why it was so popular. Hardy spends 2h travelling to the old women, then bam he's back at the start in 5 min. It had style but nothing else, 4/10. Not gonna watch furiosa obvio.
