It's so funny that ghost show had a character who officially had autism and literally says "I'm autistic" as her first line of dialogue but nobody gave a shit and instead continued gassing up two characters who they headcanon as autistic as autism rep.

Pro-tip if you guys ever meet those kinds of autists and don't wanna fricking deal with them, very few can actually take what they dish out. They will swear up and down that their autism just makes them blunt people but the coddled lives they've lived makes it that they can never handle the bluntness of another person
Every once in a while you'll get one with a thicker skin because they grew up in banter heavy places online but usually they will completely fold when they're subject to whatever they put the people around them through

Being disabled in most media is a fricking gyp to begin with. Like with Toph always being praised because she's blind-- she still uses superpowers to smash rocks and magically senses people around her in a fictionalized way, much like Daredevil. How the frick is that inspiring to a blind person who can't even see the show to begin with?

Or what about crippled characters like that one kid in Psychonauts 2, fricking Bentley from Sly Cooper, or the Extreme Ghostbusters member. They still get around with mind levitation and robotic, advanced wheelchairs that don't exist. Who cares if they can't walk, they have access to tech and powers they aren't real anyway.

An "socially awkward" character in cartoons being labelled as disabled is a joke. It barely affects those characters in anyway, so how is it a disability? They're not fricking Adrian Monk who is mentally crippled just trying to live on a day-to-day basis.

For how progressive people want to be with "representation", most of these cartoons wouldn't dare to have a Pelswick-esque character where bullies steal his lunch and put them on the fricking stairs and now he's defeated.

      Anonymous

A while back there was this "crippled spider-sona" that highlighted the issue. That is a concept that could work and be interesting, just have her move in a certain way where she accommodates for her lack of ability to kick by spinning around to use her crutches as a blunt force weapon, using a centrifugal force by moving on-side shifting one crutch to the other to keep her momentum going when she has to move on the ground and have her use the crutches with a level of accuracy for good propulsion/landings.
Instead the photo itself shows her kicking someone and immediately makes you wonder why she doesn't just walk. The issue isn't whether or not they all have these fantastic accommodations but that either
As you said, the accomodation is so great that their disability is literally just an aesthetic or they're so comically "handicapable" that their disability is an aesthetic.
You want someone in a flying high tech battle wheel chair or whatever? Go for it.
