Plot is what happens, writing is how it happens. Plot doesn't actually matter at all. It can be as complex or mundane as you want, what determines whether a story is good is the execution of the plot - the writing, screenplay, direction, ect. The fact that an animegay would rank plot higher than writing is really telling about the state of anime.

Speaking as an anime fan, this is generally true. If anime fans actually prioritized animation above all else, they would be watching old Tom and Jerry shorts. What most anime fans really prioritize above all else is the anime “aesthetic”, as well as the cultural signifier of being an anime fan and belonging to that community.

It disappoints me that despite watching a lot of anime, the best fights I've seen have been in live action. Anime gets too up it's own ass with inner monologues and flashbacks in the middle of fights ruining the pacing.
