I keep hearing how Spider-Man's a genius, but is he really? He, at least in original stories, came off as more of a talented engineer and chemist, but nowhere near Reed, Pym or Stark level.
Usually, when he's not being hounded by five villians, trying to meet Aunt May to fundraise for homeless kittens, going on dates with his current girl, he's actually portrayed as smart enough to hang with them. His usual issue is he doesn't get to focus on it, because he has a personal life and he has to work for a living. One of the few moves I liked from Brand New Day was actually showing that side of him.
I think it's more the 70s and 80s tried way too hard to make him a regular ol broke joe from New York and made all hist stories based around being barely able to get by in the city.
No it's superheroes, you just kinda go along with it, overthinking it kinda ruins the fun and is just tism.
