No shit. Social standing is everything. A man who deviates from things everyone else is invested into is an outsider with low social status. Either you thrive in society or you're a loser, there is no in-between.

Women are so fickle and indecisive what they actually want can turn a dime based on what group of friends they're with, when their last period was, or even what the last thing they saw on TV was. This idea that liking only "approved" popular things will make you more attractive is a half truth at best. Women want someone who is socially fluent and knows what's en vogue at the moment, but that doesn't mean they want a sycophantic npc who likes whatever he's supposed to like.

That doesn't sound good, but the normie's interests don't go any further than FOTM streaming shows and fantasy football. Even women who still read are only reading YA-adjacent genre fiction. A lot of us are indeed overgrown children, and most people in their 20s are also overgrown children but with shit taste.

There's only two answers, I don't need to "read too far" on it, there's only two possibilities
Well, three, you could also be 15 years old and you didn't watched that many movies and Willy's Wonderland is one of the few you saw, sure, but that doesn't look like it applies here

NTA, but I don't even know what I'd say my favourite movie is. I know how I'd answer it as a kid, but nowadays, I don't think there is one, or even close to that, movies that I'd say are my favourite. I can mention some movies I liked (and there are recent movies among those), but pointing out the best among them would be difficult because my reception of them is strongly biased by the circumstances of when I watched them.

I think there might have been some misunderstanding. I don't care about getting bailed out in some hypothetical office convo. Those were just my musings about the core question. That even if I wanted to answer it, I don't think I can give an honest answer other than "there isn't one" and I provided some argument why I think so. I don't know if that's normal, or I'm just weird (I'm certainly weird enough that I manage to avoid almost all office discussion that don't directly pertain to my job).

Yes, that is how I avoid office convos.
But that was not the part I wanted to focus on. Take out the whole office convo and women scenario out of the discussion. Just focus on the core question of the favourite movie. I don't think I can point to one.

Honestly, if I tried to avoid the question I'd come off as an autist and.if I named my actual favourite movie I'd come off as an autist. I'd probably just name some that's close enough to being one of my favourite movies that generally acclaimed. Something like Blade Runner or Lord of the Rings.

Gummo is unironically my favorite movie too. Once you get past the outward ugliness, it's a comfy movie about people just trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after a tornado has destroyed their town. It has a lot to say about how the human spirit is always able to find meaning wherever it is, even in places plagued by extreme poverty and violence, and ironically its greatest haters are the people who see weird looking characters and immediately assume the movie is meant to induce disgust and horror.
