The ears on Batman's cowl are tricky. Too short, they look like horns. Too long and suddenly it's impractical. Then its a matter of how they're angled. Straight up or tilted forward?
I don't know if I have a preference, per se, but the ears are just one of those things where you know they're good if you just don't notice them, you know?
long ears better but really depends on how it goes with the rest of the costume
Pretty much this. Really depends on the artist's style. I actually think its one of those Goldilocks principle, not too long or not too short. Too long does look weird but if we're going by it being impractical then we need to get rid of the cape as well. I say have fun with it! I do like and would like to see short ears similar to pic related be done more.

This obsession with practicality is how we ended up with all those garbage modern tacticool costume designs.
Frick off out of my fantasy strongman genre you absolute plebs.

After thinking of the Robert Paterson chest bat-arangs I thought, why not have batarangs on the ears?
Make his ears sharp and pointy. And i guess able to detach and throw. >but he'll only have 2 to throw, he needs like 10-50
Yeah, but they might look cool?
And no one is able to grab them, except him.
Long like the 90's but not devil horn style like in OP pic, the more stylized Batman is the cooler he looks frick practical shit, draw him like human cape.
The purpose of Batman's costume is explicitly to scare villains. Ask yourself, which looks more like a terrifying bat demon, the one on the left of your picture or the one on the right?
If it's long I just feel like the bad guys can grab and ride him like a bull.
Hot
practicality never mattered in superhero costumes. Skintight, cape, ears at all etc. It's all up to aesthetics.
Those are ears anon
Longer ears are cooler to look at but short ears are more practical

People like realism anon, people like you who want pure fantasy are the outliner
"Muh realism" is for braindead NPCs.
Also the word you're looking for is outlier, not outliner.

Yep

Where's the image on the right from
Medium

But then the question might be what sort of batarang do we go with?
4 is by far the best in terms of actual usefulness.
Medium in regular practice, but I have a fondness for long ears.
Five, the blades fit the shape of the ears perfectly.
Old school Batman didn't even have batarangs
Ultraman Zero does it kind of so I don't see a problem
Yeah its really cool the Battinson repurposed the scene from Superman 2.
I agree
shorter like a bat's

Ears got shorter when Bruce decided to go for a more family friendly look

Short, like Batfleck
Shorter. The 2004 carton look.
For me, it's the Origins suit.
ear length and cape length should be linked so they can be adjusted by pulling the ears to shorten the cape or pulling the cape to shorten the ears.
The longer the better.

Should have gone full Gargoyle.
People rarely see Batman directly, you fear his shadow or sillouette and the brain does the rest.
Long for gothic detective and short for brutal brawler
I like a good mid size, short ears don't look like bat ears, big ears look ridiculous.
One is modeled on a bat. The other is modeled on a baseball bat.
Depends what Batman era they are trying to depict.
The upcoming cartoon is an adaption of golden age Batman. Low tech, more violent and a costume that looks more like a costume than body armor
Right one looks like a staffy
