Until you can metal bend bullets

I think its canon that there's a limit on what kind of metal earthbenders can bend.
They can't bend platinum, so they probably can't bend lead too

No, bending has too many uses on the battlefield in addition to firing at people from range.

Ancient fanart from Deviantart. Like, I think barely made after the final episode.
I remember seeing it, the artist said they're using jelly blast.

It will for about twenty minutes, and then some crazy spirit will empower humans to use guns and bending together somehow.

In war, no. Bending will always have its uses.
Among civilians? Yes. In korra, we have seen that gangs of benders terrorize non-benders. But with the great equalizer, bending is not longer a threat

Depends on reaction time. All four styles could potentially deflect or outright block incoming fire with advance warning. Airbenders are probably the only ones that I would think could actually sense it via change in air currents though.

A firebender of Ozai's or maybe Azula's level could potentially pull a Human Torch and naturally radiate enough heat to vaporize bullets before they hit without directing it.

Bending will never be obsolete and it still has advantages over most other things. But it doesn't mean guns are illogical in the setting. You think a blade can match a giant boulder? Of course not, but people still use swords, and the Fire Nation still had elite archers, sniping someone at a distance or just whipping a gun out and taking out a bender with their guard down is extremely useful

Absolutely. Fancy magic martial arts don't mean shit against a real weapon.

    >metalbenders
Only if they can see it coming. Also grenades exist.

On the contrary. If lightning-bending can become widespread, so can combustion-bending in the future and turn many firebenders into living bazookas.
Benders were already fighting ridiculously agile metal tanks and mechs in the show and these things only really work in overwhelming numbers or against very shitty benders.
Earth- and to a certain extent waterbenders have incredible defensive potential against firearms.
Only airbenders are truly fricked against firearms because altering the flight path of a high velocity bullet probably requires an absolute grandmaster and they can't really respond with bending projectiles of their own.

It has been revealed that combustion bending isn't inherited but some kind of mk ultra project. Few survive the process

Gun fanatics are some of the most insufferable people I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with.
They try to force their obsession into any sort of setting and then act like it should make them the next coming of Christ cause they've got an invincible weapon with no counters.

I'm not a gun fanatic and I support gun control but you gotta admit, it has no counters in a realistic setting. Its a small toy that kills anything you point at

modern assault rifles maybe, which would require modern technology to produce at scale

but trying to fight a firebender using a 15th century handgonne, which fires 3 times a minute, require you to mix a handmade batch of seprentine 30 minutes before combat, and is accurate only up to ranges a bow and arrow is accurate at, and blinds you with smoke every time you fire is probably not going to be in your favor

        >so send 50 handgonne equipped peasants
at that point, youre clearly expecting a setpiece battle
so the enemy deploys their elite firebending platoon to set fire to your powder kegs because this is now a full on battle and not just a skirmish

Anon. They already invented a giant mecha with a laser beam. If they invent a gun, isn't going to be a 15th century rifle.
I'm not saying they are going to start up with a mp5 but non-benders keep getting pushed to invent weapons to compete with benders.

You're right, gun nuts are annoying nerds.
But I'm not a gun nut nor do I care about the difference between the glockenshpielgen or a wieneronov 48. But they already invented tanks, blimps, iron clad battleships, and already have highly combustible material used in war such as jelly blast. It's just weird they didn't have canons or something.
Firearms in real Chinese history aren't your machine guns that can take down several guys, they were experimental in their use of gunpowder. Remember that scene in Mulan where she stopped a Mongol hoard where a dragon-headed rocket? That's what I'm imagining.
Anyways it's too late to add guns in Avatar anyway, Korra has advanced far beyond them and if they're not fireworks on arrows, big fat canons, or lunky hand canons, then the appeal is gone and they're going to out of place with mechs and spirit beams.

Why would you need cannons when you are cannons? They're only useful as an equalizer for non-benders, and there's good reason for the elites to suppress them on that grounds.

What's stopping a bender from using guns? The nonbender has a pistol, but the bender has a pistol AND bending
