The movies are still making money and getting mostly positive reviews. Thor was a disappointment and Eternals didn't resonate (despite actually being a decent movie that tried something different). People are exaggerating the state of the MCU right now. The fact is that they just finished their first big arc now we're back to setting up the next big threats.
Also, I think there are a lot of loud idiots who wanted to see the MCU finished after Endgame or critics are tired of feeling like they have to keep up with story lines over several different franchises.

Not anymore. It's an uphill battle. They have to keep introducing crossover gimmicks in order to achieve a comparable result to the past. Like a drug addict who takes a bigger dose to achieve a lesser high

A dollar profit is still making money. The real question execs and share holders ask is how much money could have been made by investing these huge budgets elsewhere. In Phase 3 the budgets justified themselves, but they proceeded into 4 with the same expectations, and there's no denying they're seeing significantly smaller numbers than they wanted.
The MCU isn't finished obviously, but expect changes. Either smaller budgets or fewer movies (probably both).

Wandavision set up the Skrull, but for the most part what each individual Phase 4 property has set up has been its next sequel. It's nothing like the way that Phase 1 was setting up Thanos.
I agree about Eternals for the record. The only Phase 4 movie that I found sort of interesting, even though it was brought down by quips and bad acting.
Eternals was brought down by being a series of stories better suited to a series. The movie could never figure out what it wanted to be

Thanos was a last minute inclusion while Avengers was being made. The main goal of phase 1 was literally just to build to having everyone meet in Avengers and try to make the movies feel like they were all in the same world. This is also why you've got the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor, which had to be retconned as a fake in Thor Ragnarok.

Marvel has gone to shit because it became a content generation machine. I'd guess disney expects this to work as long as they have occasional spiderman-style successes.
MCU #28(thor l&t) will probably get to around 700 million, with a 250 budget+ maybe 200 marketing. not great on paper, but will also help sell disney+ and frankly I don't believe the 250, that's just gravy going into various corporate and production pockets.

Phase 4 being a huge fail is hard proof that putting a woman into a leading decision making capacity is the quickest way to destroy something that is thriving. MCU circa endgame was on the top of the world and could do no wrong, and all it took to destroy all that momentum, good will, and success was Victoria Alonso allowed to helm an entire Phase. And just like that, the biggest movie franchise the world has ever seen is now on the decline.
Now, maybe things can be salvaged if the higher ups reign Victoria and her cronies in but look at Star wars, they're still allowing Kathleen Kennedy to run wild and wreck the brand even more than she already has with massive frick ups like Kenobi, so there isn't much hope in a course correction. Likely Secret Wars at some point with several of the shows involving Secret Wars. I imagine Secret Wars will turn into some sort of soft reboot where the current McU merges with another and it allows them to recast various roles of certain characters they either want to kill off or recast with someone younger or more suited to the role.
Of course that would be the smart thing to do and allow them to keep these characters going another 10-15 years and tell stories they never got the chance too with characters that have already been killed or written out.
Recast Tony Stark, Black Panther, Thor, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Steve Rogers, and bring in mutants or other shit. Of course they will likely frick this up.

The thing about Secret War s is it only happened because Mattel told Marvel they'd onmly license toys if they did a big event with all the heroes and villains. So it comes out of nowhere, the Beyonder just shows up out of the blue and teleports everyone to Battle Planet so they can all duke it out for no reason. So there's not really any breadcrumbs they could have laid, he's a multiversal being so I guess that ties in, maybe it'll be that the Beyonder only noticed 616 or whatever MCU universe is called because of the current multiverse shenanigans, who knows.
