Yeah but just spamming a movie nobody likes isn't enough to get people to love it. It makes more sense that it had a cult following and more people started to watch and love it with exposure.

It's a classic because it's simple, christmas-themed, and ends with a happy kid that got what he wanted instead of "something even better that didn't cost any time and money"
Even relatability doesn't really matter for shit in the shadow of those three things. The nets are constantly trying to push other bullshit like Elf as "the christmas shit", and they don't take because one of those three criteria fail.

Based. Maybe it IS really only for an american audience but it's the true blue american child's christmas experience in a nutshell. No movie will ever encapsulate what a real life christmas is for a kid in America better than A Christmas Story. It's honestly less of a christmas movie than it is just a slice of life movie about a kid in America that just so happens to take place during the holiday season.

when I was a 10 year old kid I had a friend do this and got his tongue stuck too. I went to my house to get a cup of hot water to get him unstuck but before I got back his mom yanked him hard off and he had to go to the doctor because his tongue got fucked up. I thought his mom was weird before then, after that I figured she was retarded. I was even blamed for him doing it when it was entirely his idea to imitate the movie when he knows exactly what would happen.

The film is kino. An all-American boy wants army toys out of a misplaced sense of how to bond with his veteran pop, but what he wants most of all his own gun. But before he can be worthy of such a gift, he needs to grow up a bit and learn to stand up for what's right. Then he gets the gun and it is dangerous, but he's alright—just like the family's dinner is ruined, but they manage just fine with their smiling Chinese duck.

Not really. Christmas is all about remembering Christmases of the past. You basically have your classic Victorian England Christmas inspired by Christmas Carol and your classic American Christmases of the early to mid 20th century. Those will never fade away or become irrelevant.

How the fuck is it sad? Because the Bumpus hounds ate their turkey? They went to a chinese restaurant and ate a duck and watched funny chinamen cut its head off in front of them and sing christmas carols in terrible chinese accents, they all had a good time anyway and now they have a funny story to tell everyone for the rest of their lives.

That's probably why the people in this thread hate it, Ralphie is a normal kid and not a sexual assault victim trying to overcome muh traumas by battling a CGI monster while referencing pop culture every 90 seconds.

No where in the movie is it stated or even implied that Ralphie is confused about his gender for any reason at all. This costume doesn't even look feminine, it just looks stupid, which is the joke. This wasn't even a conversation until mentally ill trannies started hypersexualizing everything around them. In fact, this probably wasn't even a conversation at all anywhere until you made it up just now. Seek god.

maybe it's time for us to have that conversation. the movie has not aged poorly. the plot revolves around a little boy who yearns to own a gun. there is a lot of toxic masculinity in it displayed by not only the boys in the film, but also their fathers. the emasculation of ralphie on christmas shouldn't be the butt of a joke

It's an exaggerated joke about the relatable experience of having that one relative who insists on sending you a token Christmas gift every year, despite seeming to have at best a vague idea of your age and interests. You're a boy in elementary school who likes Mighty Max and videogames? Sorry, you're getting a waterproof wallet this year because that's what was offered on the endcap at the drugstore checkout line when your great aunt remembered she's supposed to buy you a Christmas gift.

It's never on here in Sweden. And we love american christmas movies, National lampoons Christmas vacation and Home Alone airs every year on some channel.

Having watched this anyway recently I can understand why it never airs here. It's a movie without any real warmth and Christmas joy. It's such a cold and materialistic movie. it literally ends with the kid getting the toy gun he really wanted. Then he shoots himself with it! There's no moral being taught, no cold hearts being melted by the spirit of the season, etc...

Just watched it for the first time this week. Classic or not, it's as wholesome a film I've seen, other than some slightly bawdy moments like the fishnet leg lamp.

Made today, the cast would be wildly different, as would the themes, the setting, and the dialogue. It would be the trash Disney+ churns out. Gets the noggin joggin as they say.
