Does blackwashing characters reduce your enjoyment of a tv-show/movie?

The Sandman's blackwashing is on a completely different level. Based on this show you would black people are 50% of UK's population.

    >BAME people 'are over-represented on TV': Ethnic minorities make up 22% of actors and presenters while only representing 12% of British population, research shows

  2. 2 years ago

    >Over-representation is particularly stark on drama programmes, where ethnic minority actors win more than a quarter (26.4 per cent) of parts, as well as children’s TV (30.3 per cent) and comedies (24.9 per cent).

    >Lesbian, gay and bisexual people are nearly twice as likely to appear on television — where they take 11.9 per cent of roles — than would be expected by their estimated 6.4 per cent share of the national population.

I have no fricking idea. You'd appealing to Latinos would make sense because you also appeal to South America, which is a huge demographic.

I think the Blackmania is driven by the liberal need to feel good about standing up to Blacks, while considering Latinos indistinguishable from whites.

Probably because without the absurd amount of propaganda everyone would turn against them and realize how hopeless they truly are.

because the reality is that black people will always be the "other" in westerns societies. given enough time, latinos and asians will be accepted into white folds as white numbers begin to tick down, but black people will never be allowed said distinction. black people know this, which is why they are the ones at the forefront of civil rights efforts in the country despite the ills that plague their communities. its also why asian and latino communities dont go as hard for civil rights. they know their time is coming

Curious thing is that I wouldn't even be bothered if they cast Asians or Hispanics instead.
I just think most black people are not generally very attractive, and smaller acting pool generally means you are unlikely to find a good actor for the role, which often results in blackwashed characters being depicted by an awful black actor, which just showcases that the actor wasn't cast for the merit, but for their skin and they never even considered casting non-black for the role.

These days things like the Final Draft come with a quota model which forces a certain amount of lines to be delivered by a Black.

To answer your question; Yes, it does reduce enjoyment if it happened for political reasons. As a counterexample, Heimdall in Thor was great and did not stand out as a diversity checkmark.

Yes, it does. When I see backwashed characters it immediately tells me two things: first, that the people in charge don't give enough of a shit about the source material to stay true, and second that they don't have enough faith in their own work to just create something new with a black OC.

Either way, it's a huge neon sigh that says "this is going to suck."

Back in the day it didn't because I thought of it like they're just adding a fresh twist on an old character. But now it really feels like an industry-wide anti-white effort. It feels like they're just trying to erase white people from as many things as possible.

This feels oddly racist to me and desperate casting by quota. "Get some Indian actors". "I don't know any Indian actors". "What about that TV show with Indians in from the 90s?" "OK".

I am Resident Evil Fan, played all of the main series games and some of the spin offs.
I thought the show was fine, the characters and stroyline were goofy but the monsters were fine.

As for Wesker, he isn't even really Wesker but a clone of Wesker, the real Wesker is barely in it.
I thought he portrayed real Wesker fine too

      Anonymous

Actually the monsters were cool, I meant to say cool.
Who ever designed them played the games.
It felt more Resident Evil than the movies.

Come on man, Resident Evil is goofy.
It is a fricking Japanese Horror, the games have really good cool scenes, really good horror scenes but plenty of goofy shit.
I have seen people b***h about the Tik Tok dance but mind controlling someone into doing a stupid dance is what Umbrella would do, Umbrella is comically evil.

I have not interest in the story or the stupid twins but the world seems cool and as a fan of the games the monsters are really well done.
If you played the games there is a lot of stuff for you to enjoy.
The fans getting their pannies in a twist probably had RE4 as their first game.

Like I said, I have not interest in the story line or characters.
I went in with low expectations because Netflix but was surprised.
I watched it, got fed some cool monster scenes, some references and enjoyed it.

The series is fine, I am not trying to convince you it is the next Citizen Kane.
I feel like every game adaption fans of the series were involved in the writing but things had to be changed to appeal to the mainstream.
People here are screaming about Black Wesker and not even bothering to give it a chance.
Ironically the guy who plays Wesker is the best Actor and does a good job portraying the character in the 6 minutes we actually see Wesker.

Immediately. It is a red flag that whomever is in charge doesn't care about the source material and has an agenda. Why would I watch literal propaganda that butchers the original material the film or show is supposed to be about? If I give them money or attention it signals that bastardizing long standing series works even if you are not faithful.

I could care very little about actors of different races appearing but when you take a named establish character and flip their race for no other reason then "the show is too white" you're a liberal shitbird and the show likely is going to be shit regardless. See: Your very pic. No one likes this show. Not a soul out there. Not the fans. Not the woke. Not even the casual popcorn muncher.

The funny thing is I'll watch stuff where everyone is black, but not things where blacks are randomly sprinkled everywhere.
They didn't need to include white people in the cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel-air or The Cosby Show to get me to watch them. I don't buy the excuse that it "increases the market appeal" or whatever to include nonwhite people in things. People want to see something coherent.
