The New Republic is not really doing that though. Rather than applying him to science, they waste the guy in some low-level office drone role that next to anyone could do. Even if the New Republic does not want him working on cloning, he must have enough transferable knowledge and skills to work on something else biology related. It is like the Americans getting von Braun to work as a cashier in McDonalds.

The way they portray the New Republic is just bizarre. Beyond the moronic way they utilise Pershing, you also get them both disbanding the military (despite Imperial warlords still being a thing) and destroying valuable data. Maybe even worse, they make the New Republic seem dystopian and sinister with giving people numbers like it is The Prisoner and that mind flaying thing.

It`s just not what SW is about anon. SW has a very distinct and established personality that sets it apart from generic stuff. Very distinct themes, tone, cinematography and so on. Mandalorian season one was a hit because it attempted to respect the legacy and replicate these things that made SW unique instead of using it as just another intellectual property to kick start original narratives. Doing this kind of thing or making shows like Andor is going to keep backfiring on them no matter how technically proficient the products are because SW already has an established identity.

I agree with you completely. Andor sucks. From a technical perspective it's well made and has some good writing, but it's so entirely not Star Wars that it's repellant to me. It's shit. Not to mention, Star Wars having sex scenes, strip clubs, and lots of swearing is the absolute anti-thesis of what George Lucas wanted and intended with Star Wars. It's just as much subversive israelite trash as the sequel trilogy, just disguised behind more competent production.

I thought this too. It felt like some other generic sci-fi show 90% of the time anyway. The only way you would know it's "Star Wars" is by the small handful of scenes where Stormtroopers or TIE Fighters show up. It fundamentally didn't want to be Star Wars and the creators simply worked around that limitation to do what they wanted, which was derivative MUH FASCISM MUH BLUE COLLAR WORKERS RISE UP commie trash.

            >is the absolute anti-thesis of what George Lucas wanted and intended with Star Wars.

Black person you do know that Lucas wanted to make a series called 'Star Wars: Underworld' which he and people involved with have described as
            >"Much darker, grittier. It's much more character-based"
            >"Deadwood in space"
            >"Empire on steroids"
            >“Basically, it is like ‘The Godfather’
            >"The greasy, seamy underbelly of Star Wars."

Identity is not given by non existent projects. Statements like "Lucas said" or "Lucas wanted to do" have no weight. Identity is what was actually done; in the end what matters to the audience is what`s actually on the screen, not the ideas or what was envisioned or discussed. By this i don`t mean that the creative process is not important but that it can not be objectively observed or analyzed.

You can analyze the ways an image is composed, what lens were used, how it was lit, what purpose the shot serve on the story, how it fits on a the timeline (does it make the narrative too fast, does it slow it down? does it provide meaningful information or emotional payoff, etc), how actors perform, the relationship between image and sound and so on. You can`t analyze the abstract ideas. Consistency and style on how these things are done is what you would call identity. This is how an author actually communicates, not interviews and explanations.

In any case going by the observation of these elements on Lucas`s movies a distinct identity can be observed. The themes, the tone, the way the hero`s journey is presented, unambiguous almost naive representations of good and evil and so on. We are not discussing the simplicity of it or if it`s good or bad, we are just acknowledging based on a corpus of films that that is what SW is.

They are not *his* characters. Most of those were either created, co-created, or approved by George Lucas in a show created by George Lucas, which was Lucas' last contribution to Star Wars. And, by all means, they are as important and are as valid as the characters from the films, which were also created by Lucas.
Filoni's characters are Star Wars: Rebels characters. And we haven't seen any of them yet. But we will in the Ahsoka show.

No, it’s not. It’s widespread. I’m a liberal, I’m married, I lost my virginity at 16, and I had (some) issues with the Prequels. Having said that, I absolutely despise the Sequel Trilogy and I see it as corporate cancer that destroyed one of modern pop culture’s greatest myths/ stories.

The SW universe is so stupid on an unimaginable level because they can't imagine shit.

    >Entire galaxy is explorable within days.
    >You must either live in 'the civilized part'.
    >Or live in the undeveloped lawless frontier.
    >There's no inbetween.

Pershing is shown to be essentially be forced into working with the new republic because that's the only way he could get a job. They comment that Corescant has a population of trillions. Surely there could be other, small empires that would happily employ him to make clones. He even mentions the Kaminoans or whatever, the fricking cloning people. Why not go work for them? But no, he has to work in the new republic because that's the single option in a galaxy of millions of worlds.

      >Surely there could be other, small empires that would happily employ him to make clones
He got captured by the Republic and was under prohibition. Considering what happened to him, he was also seemingly under surveillance the entire time. So it is not as if he could just easily leave, and for that matter the reconditioning or whatever the New Republic did seemed to have worked.

    >he has the dark saber which is the tool to unite his people under one banner
    >putting him on an unwanted path of power that will attract allies, enemies and contenders
    >this while missing baby Yeed
It was the perfect setup to explore Din as a character and the mandalorians, a path that will obviously bring Mando back to Yeed to end the show with an emotional scene. But nah, they had to rush everything in a side show to put the characters back together at the beginning of S3 to be able to sell more shit of the same thing, ruining any fricking setup in place. The simple fact that nobody fricking cares about the dark saber since the beginning of S3 is dumb as frick.

The darksaber was always dumb as frick. It wasn't cool in The Clone Wars, it's not cool here. But you are correct that they immediately rushed to backtrack their own story in order to keep the women who only watched for the Muppet. But the thing is, those women do not care about trying to follow a story they don't have all the context to, so keeping Grogu around means nothing when the story is Filoni wank requiring multiple seasons of multiple other shows to understand.

The Dark Saber could have been cool. Watching him cut that one guy in half in book of Boba Fett was neat, but as soon as I saw Bo using it with no problem whatsoever, I knew what was happening

        >The darksaber was always dumb as frick
        >muh cool
It's not about being cool (maybe for the childrens and manchildrens who watch the show). The darksaber is just a TOOL, it's basically the excalibur of the Mandalorian people. A tool to unite people which by this fact, bring drama upon his owner. It's a tool to make stories around it, stories that are more interesting than the actual sword/saber. The series is called The Mandalorian, with a hero from a cultist clan, the darksaber was teased at the end of S1, it was obvious that it was supposed to end in his hands from the start.

I thought it was pretty good. I liked that it took the time to flesh out the universe a bit, showing what the new republic is and how it operates, how the former imperial staff are treated after the empire's collapse. Star Wars usually falls in to the problem of being really vast as a setting but having very little depth in terms of how it all connects together, so it was good that they bucked that trend this episode.

I'm guessing the woman who set Pershing up is still an imperial and just a double agent working for Gideon or some other empire remnant.

The real questions from this scene, aside from the laughable technical side of things and embarassing acting, is why these things have blasters so weak that they cant damage a floor nor cause any explosive effect beyond a pitiful spark, literally storm trooper blasters are generally shown more powerful. Why did the rebels at hoth even bother with the things, they were clearly going to be useless against anything armore. Literally some third-party thing, which indicates that users of that third party thing watched Mandalorian 3 slightly less than Boba Fett and Kenobi. Disney has never officially disclosed any of their numbers, And numbers are, frankly, irrelevant in the streaming era, when all that matters is the amount of D+ subscriptions. People can watch episodes any time they like if they are subscribed. Lots of people just wait for the entire season to drop.

It’s not that the episode was necessarily bad (I like learning about and seeing the New Republic). It’s that all of these shows are now be aggressively used to prop up the disastrous Sequel Trilogy.

All people wanted was good compelling stories that take place during the New Republic Era. And maybe after a good decade or so of this (movies/ tv shows/ animated shows), we could skip forward in the timeline 300 years and follow up on Grogu’s Mandalorian Jedi or something.

But instead we’re getting more Sequel Trilogy garbage. We’re getting all the EU stories that rightfully belong to Leia, Mara Jade, Luke, Lando, Han, Jaina, etc. stolen and given to Ahsoka and Filoni’s other one note cartoon characters. Just like how the Sequels stole every single storyline and accomplishment from the Original 6 movies and gave them all to Rey Palpatine. After destroying the Movie side and the merchandise side of Lucasfilm with that stolen valor template, Kathleen Kennedy pushed Faveau/ Filoni to adopt it and steal the remaining EU and give it all to Ahsoka and Rey. And now because of that, and because the fans have completely figured it out, (along with shitting the bed w/ Kenobi & BOBF) people are checking the frick out. For good.

      >We’re getting all the EU stories that rightfully belong to Leia, Mara Jade, Luke

      >GEORGE LUCAS: "I've left pretty explicit instructions for there not to be any more features. There will definitely be no Episodes VII-IX. That's because there isn't any story. I mean, I never thought of anything. And now there have been novels about the events after Episode VI, which isn't at all what I would have done with it. The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn't come back to life, the Emperor doesn't get cloned and Luke doesn't get married..."

      >“George couldn’t stand Mara Jade. They went out and got some sort of person who looked like she had stepped out of a Cosmopolitan magazine to be the model for Mara, and he just thought the whole thing was so not Star Wars, and not his vision for Star Wars. […] And also she married Luke, and he says ‘Jedi don’t marry.’ So for him, that was important.”—J.W. Rinzler, non-fiction author and editor of Lucas Licensing

EU was never canon. Luke never got married. Mara Jade never existed.

Coruscant existed long before the EU. It was just called Had Abbadon.
          >Various prequel Jedi were added in the films because George liked their look from the comics
True, George saw a hot blue twi'lek on the wall of Lucasfilm office and he added her. Doesn't mean her stories were canon, though. In fact, they weren't. Just like Lucas was going to have Darth Talon as old Maul's apprentice in his ST five years after ROTJ, when she lived centuries after ROTJ in the EU and had nothing to do with Maul.

            The EU???

Many, many authors have complained that Disney directly steals their ideas without compensating or crediting them. Also, Disney literally doesn’t compensate them properly for their actual books sales either. Disney is notoriously cheap

            Anonymous

You can buy a name. But you can't buy creativity and you can't buy a fanbase. George Lucas sold them "Star Wars", but he could never actually give them Star Wars. They had to earn that, and they have done the complete opposite of that for a decade.

He won in the end. Only his films and the EU are canon. He got billions of dollars to retire on and leave his family. Disney expended tens of billions and lost it all because instead of putting heart and soul into it, they tried to taxidermize the corpse of the beloved film series of all time with cheap, stylistically and morally bankrupt propaganda.

Don't forget the vidya, anon. Lucasarts made so many good games. What has Disney made? Battlefraud2? That Souls clone where you can't even slice enemies with a lightsaber?

The video games are counted as part of the EU, or course. I still play many of them to this day.

        Wrong.

Lucas never “hated” Mara Jade. He literally worked with Timothy Zaun on her development and her unique skills. What he didn’t like was how she “looked like a Cosmopolitan Model.” That’s way different than “hating” her as a character.

The EU was a “B” tier canon, however it was very successful with the EU books selling over 100 million copies and keeping the franchise vibrant for decades. George Lucas had no problem putting his name on every EU product and collecting the tens of millions in revenue.

If Disney was smart (they aren't) they'd fire Kennedy and filoni, completely delete and redact the sequel trilogy and let someone like Kevin feige redo the series. Unfortunately Disney is full of morons so they're going to double down on the god awful sequels and the fan fiction tier character rey

They don't give a frick about making money. That's not the goal with all this propaganda since at least 2015 (and realistically decades and decades before that). "Go woke go broke".....they don't care. They're taking orders from people far far above them in the overall power peking order and at the top, the ones giving the orders? Money is of zero concern. Getting their vision(s) through to completion is top priority .

Think about it. It's win win for them. They turn a once beloved work of art or franchise into obvious propaganda and good or even satisfying writing be damned. One of two things eventually happens. Some, the dumbest of the dumb, fall for and are brainwashed by the propaganda. OR people say FRICK THIS and abandon yet another classic institution of humanity. Think Mao and what he achieved with his minions in destroying and replacing the "old fashioned and poisonous old traditions". They don't CARE if Hollywood burns. If Football dies. If this that and the other thing goes bankrupt and people give up on it because that's the next best thing to falling for the propaganda....demoralization. Notice how bummed out and depressed EVERYONE is now? They can be more easily defeated if everything that every brought them joy goes up in flames. See. Win win for the powers that be.

This. It's just more demoralization to keep everyone divided and depressed. I take a two lane road to work every morning and I'm always stunned by how everyone driving in the opposite lane look depressed, broken, and tired.

Andor had 3 episode arcs, in a 12 episode run in season 1 and it knew where it wanted to go. It is a story that will only go for 2 seasons so it can have an earn those moments of "slow burn" and build the tension. This show is on its 3rd season and it feels completely lost.

The pacing of this series so far is just so damn bizarre. It feels like its going in circles. Mando goes to see the Armorer so that we could get the exposition again for those that didn't see Boba. Then he goes to Greef to get IG, but it doesn't go anywhere and just sets up the pirate episode they'll do later. He goes to Tatooine to talk to the lady to get parts for IG, but just gets an Astromech and rolls with it. Then talks to Bo, then goes to Mandalore, then he needs to get rescued and gets on the waters. Finally, it ends with him going back to his people. It didn't need to be two damn episodes of him flying around, back tracking, talking to people, flying off, etc. You could have had a 1hour premiere Ep1 if they had tightened the pacing.

Then we get the last episode, which feels like a bait and switch because most people were wanting to see where this whole Mythosaurus and Bo situation would play out. The season thus far just feels aimless.
