I other than these I enjoyed the movies though, star wars movies always had shit plot even the original ones.

Luke was the love interest for Leia that is why they kiss, but they changed their mind and made them siblings. The creators said this themselves.

Luke being sent to the planet where anakin is from to anakin's relatives is fricking moronic. When they die Luke doesn't give a shit.

Teddy bears destroying the imperial army.

Obi wan and Joda train Luke hoping that his father won't kill him. Like let's be honest here LUKE had zero chance of defeating Vader and they knew this yet they train and send the poor boy againts Vader hoping that he feels emotional, then Vader for some reason gets emotional and doesn't kill Luke. The whole plan of Obi Wan and Joda was shit and Luke is a mary sue.

So many other things. I like these movies, but the plot never was that good if you start analysing it.

Yes, because they clearly made shit up on the go and it's weird that siblings kiss, this is gonna be a shocker, but the writers also came up with vader being Luke's father later on.

It is not a masterpiece like the lord of the rings, it is stuff made up on the go and it shows. But star wars fans act like the ot is the best written thing in existence.

With like 5 years training he defeated one of the strongest sith? Why didn't obi wan do it then? If Vader wanted he could have killed Luke. He obviously didn't want to, but it seems like you didn't even understand the movie.

No, the problem was, as already mentioned by the other anon was that it didn't work at all as a sequel to what had come before. But not only that it didn't work even as a stand alone movie. Nothing makes any sense at all if you give it moments thought.

Without the extra added stuff storywise the ot wasn't much better either. It was better and more original and at the time the effects were really unique, storywise it wasn't much better. Comic books and other stuff filled in the gaps for the movies.

      >In 10 years when another trilogy comes out people will be tripping over themselves to retrospectively fellate it.

I don't see how. The prequels are interesting in theory even if they're poorly executed; but what's interesting about the sequel trilogy? The First Order is barely coherent as a faction, none of the characters have any depth, its filled with stupid ideas. What is there to love?

I can look at the prequels and think about all the ways Lucas could have told the story better and how it could have been tweaked to be great. But I can't do that with the sequels because there aren't any good ideas there. The prequels are an unfinished symphony, the sequels are a spastic hammering a xylophone with a hammer for 6 hours.

Yeah; but they don't. If they had that would have at least been interesting. If Last Jedi had ended with Rey considering Kylo's offer to join her and then 9 started with her as his lover and them conquering the galaxy that would have been interesting and it could have gone interesting places. But instead 8 ends with Luke dying like a chump and Rey and Kylo both reverting to where they were at the start of the film rendering everything pointless.

Kylo and Rey's relationship was the only thing that had any potential to be interesting and it goes nowhere other than Kylo simping himself to death without even getting laid.

The scene that introduces Rey and, in all honesty, Babu Frik are the two things about it that I thought were salvageable. Babu Frik is just so fricking random and over the top that he somehow works. If the sequel trilogy were actually done well and they included Babu Frik, it would have been one of those things that people hated but I'd still defend. The first scene with Rey was actually perfect though. It's the kind of thing I envisioned the sequels being like leading up to the release of the Force Awakens. Too bad it was so short-lived.

      Anonymous

      >Does it have any redeeming qualities?

Very few. Kylo Ren was almost an interesting character in The Last Jedi, a cunning man conspiring to betray his master and assume the reigns of power who wanted to bring peace and order to the galaxy with an iron fist; but then Rian completely destroyed that film with its ending, having Rey go full Mary Sue, Luke die a pointless death and Kylo revert back to being a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum.

Kylo was the only thing from the Disney War sequels that had any potential and even he is squandered as he reforms and sacrifices himself out of his arbitrary love for Mary Sue Rey so she can continue to save the day by being more awesome then anyone ever.

The prequels were a good idea that wasn't executed as well as it could be so its fun to discuss how they could have been better; but the sequels aren't even a coherent idea much less a good one so there's no point in discussing them or thinking about them they're just a complete and total waste.

      >The scene that introduces Rey

Yeah, I'd say the first twenty minutes or so of the first film is alright. It goes off the rails once Finn decides to kill his comrades without a second thought and becomes a comic relief character. 7 wasn't a great film; but it set up the pieces in a generic predictable way that a more talented writer could have made an interesting story out of it. But then Rian just straight up shit the bed in Episode 8 destroying anything intriguing that the audience might have cared about making the series completely irredeemable. I'm still amazed that Kathleen Kennedy was so incompetent that she let him do it.

That's what made him good, though. I honestly didn't care for him at the start, because I assumed he was just going to be another Vader. But when it turned out he was a petulant edgy child who wanted to be hardcore like Vader (but his mom wouldn't let him), I really started to like him.

The original concept for Kylo Ren was that he was supposed to get more evil with each film, basically like Vader in reverse. The way Vader became less confident throughout the original trilogy, Kylo Ren was supposed to start out at his least confident and become increasingly confident in his evil with each film until he was a total badass in the final movie. This trilogy honestly had so much potential. It could have been so good if only they had gotten competent writers.
