        Are you memeing?

my adderall story is long. however I'll say that for people who genuinely have ADHD and cannot focus on anything or calm down whatsoever, adderall is like xanax for them. I've had thousands of friends and acquaintances and I think I've maybe met 15 people ever that met that criteria. my oldest brother is one of them. unfortunately many people can just act like they can't focus or whatever (myself included, I just wanted speed) and get the shit prescribed no problem. either way it's really not detrimental to anyone unless you take upwards of 100mg a day for years and years. I miss it and would take it right now if I had them kek

        >upwards of 100mg a day

      OP

As for someone who suspects oneself of having ADHD I was really heavily interested in this film. I have always been at least slightly behind other people in terms of how far my thought goes. It took me whole day to complete my homework and I was actually formally "diagnosed" with ADHD in 1st grade (i was 6 and it was around 2008-2011). I always wondered how people could so this stuff with ease and effectiveness. I was able to study but with higher amount of effort and was very disorganized... I am really interested in something that could "fix" me. Make me perform on the same level with others

Are you off of them yet? Just curious? Do you THINK you have an addiction and potentially incapable without them? Or do you think that those drugs had rather positive impact on your natural off-drug motivation, concentration and overall thought activity?

Modafinil got harder to come by, unfortunately.
Never tried Adderal or Ritalin. Living in a nanny state sucks.
However, even with modafinil there was no instant genius, it just allowed me to stay focused after work to push through coursework.

What other movies played around with that dumb concept of "you're only using a fraction of your brain power and unlocking it makes you superhuman"?
I remember another one with Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman and a third one where I cannot recall any details at all beyond maybe it had Ryan Reynolds.

The sooner you realize that humans cant meaningfully manipulate body chemistry like that, the better.
There is no "free" +100% performance. There's always a negative that comes with it, like increased cellular stress. For instance, adrenaline. It is absolutely incredible what it does to us, but it comes with a cost afterwards.

"sooóoo we need a story about how the MC made a lot of money when he became smarter, lets think about how he could potentially have done so..."

If you could take a pill that would make you twice as smart but it would cut your remaining lifespan in half, would you do it? I kinda feel like I would have to, just to know what being twice as smart is like... and also because it would mean that I could maybe accomplish more for myself and the rest of the world in 1 year than I otherwise could in maybe the rest of my entire life.

Of course it would be best if there was a pill that made you twice as smart without any negative effects.

What if it's only a curse if you're smart but not smart enough, but if you're beyond a certain level of smartness it turns into a blessing? Not saying that's the case, but what if?

It’s not even about being smart it’s just how being smart coincides with neuroticism and unbearable traits. You don’t need to be smart to have these and if anything being a rational thinker can work in your favor because rational people take steps to make themselves happy

Why don't you take it anymore? What are the downsides?

Yeah, I mean I've had times in my life when for whatever reason I felt smarter than usual. To be permanently twice as smart... I mean frick, I'd have to try it, I feel like you could get 10 times more life out of X years that way. And just the things I would start to understand about the world that I can't now because I haven't made the connections... my thirst for knowledge demands it.

          Anonymous

It's not just about being smart. It's also about energy and mood.
I am a reasonably smart guy, but I find it so hard to drag me to actually work on anything. If I want to do something, I can accomplish a lot in a short time, but I feel being 10x smarter would just make me more tired and I would get about the same amount done.

I don't take it because it's just speed for me. i had a script for 20mg adderall, 90 a month (the most they can prescribe) into my mid 20s. I would stay up for 2 nights in a row, I wouldn't eat anything, would get immeasurable amounts of work done, and could drink like 30 beers without feeling drunk. you have to realize though I have one of the most addiction drawn brains ever though, so if you took it, it could be different for you. I don't know many people who have ever not succumbed to the shit tho. adderall is literally called "amphetamine salts". go for it bro see how it works for you lol. might change you're life

What were the downsides of it? Like, you would have to force yourself to eat I guess? And it was probably wearing your health down even if you felt good while on it?

            Anonymous

really weren't any downsides anon honestly. coming off caffeine is worse than coming off adderall. no, I didn't have to force myself to eat. you're literally not hungry ever on the shit so 2 days without food doesn't bother you at all. it didn't wear my health down at all... I just knew I couldn't keep going like I was forever. the human body needs food and it needs sleep. you will eventually fall asleep whether you want to or not, which has happened for me. no downsides if you take it responsibility

Probably the downsides of every stim, tiredness after it wears off, light sleep, anxiety, building tolerance and if you abuse it lack of sleep, psychosis and so on.

In practice the real performance enhancing benefit is going to come from augments rather than systemic drugs. There's too many complex interlocking systems in the human mind to just inject random bullshit into the system and expect benefits with no downsides.

Yeah, I'd say the ending should have been different. I'd have liked it a lot more if it did the time skip and he is super successful, but then we see a medical paper on his desk and he has a brain tumor, or something. As it is he just takes drugs and it makes his life 200% better. Fricking dumb message.

The show takes that route. NZT makes you crazy, but Bradley Cooper develops an antidote and they use that to control the main character in the show.

Pretty sure a large plot point was the drug basically fricked your brain up if you took it long term.

I think it's implied that using NZT made him smart enough to reformulate it so it had no bad effects. Or maybe he was so smart he was able to change his own biology, probably the former, though. Anyway, the end result was zero consequences. I wish that it wasn't.

People are different. Some writers use uppers, some downers and some psychedelics or a combination.
A low dose of adderal + LSD might work or you might end up writing 200 pages of incoherent nonsense.
