I think the reason she didn't tell Tony, is that it would give him unnecessary power and leverage over her. He would "do her a favor" with or without her permission, and then she'd be stuck. She would be acknowledging who he really is, and in return, would be forced to play ball. Essentially picking the side of crime. And would have to keep her mouth shut about it to everyone until the grave.
