It's worth mentioning that to Lynch with his spiritual beliefs, dreams, television, our reality are all different orders of the same reality and we're the universal-life-force's "dream" as much as the TV show is Lynch's "dream" so to him "it's a dream" doesn't mean the events are any less real or carry any less weight than what happens in our reality.

It's basically how dreams end. The fade into Laura talking to Cooper was her whispering that the only way to end the madness was to end the dream itself. It meant the destruction of a universe he himself had fallen in love with, hence the crestfallen expression mixed with acceptance.

I hate to sound like a pseud, but Twin Peaks is not a puzzle with rigid pieces that need to be put together to get the clear image of what happened. It's more abstract and fuzzy, you need to "feel" Twin Peaks rather than trying to consciously understand everything that's going on. It does sound pretentious and even silly in theory, but once you actully try to do it, ie let go of trying to connect the dots and just accept the flow, the mood, the process, you will understand on the subconscious level it's actually a very honest, sincere way of "getting" Twin Peaks.
Pseud or pseudo-intellectual would be someone actually trying to interpret the series for OP sounding like a smartass.
Lynch enjoys surreal dream atmospheres and that's what it is, nothing pretentious about pointing that out I think.
I disagree. I think telling people how to feel is wrong because the subconscious process of feeling cannot be put into words, so what I did was playing the language game of vaguely describing something that cannot be described and that a person should come to themselves.

The detonation of the first nuclear bomb in new mexico in the 1940s tore open a hole in our universe. Through that hole, evil spirits from another dimension invaded our world. These evil spirits feed on pain and suffering. They find human hosts and hide in their bodies, leading them to commit heinous acts to feed on the misery of those acts. The story is about an FBI agent investigating the consequences of these evil spirits in the small town of Twin Peaks. He is aided by other spirits who oppose the evil spirits, but he gets in over his head and makes things worse.

Someone i know does, he thinks he is an intellectual and also reads weird french and italian fascist political theory and fiction books from the 20s and 30s. One of the most nonassuming but secretly hyper autistic and insecure people i've ever met.
Initially an inoffensive postmodern satire of soap opera tropes, Twin Peaks evolved into an exploration of a world of inverted metaphysics (a world structured by ideas, not matter). The author bases the creation around both in-world characters and out-of-world audience trying to glimpse the true nature of things, in the process merging authorial intent and audience expectations into the story. It's a commentary, a metashow, a creation realizing itself.
But to try and rationalise it for you:
The woods contain an interdimensional portal or thinning of the walls between realities, except its not so much another dimension in a purely physical sense but also a spiritual connection to the present reality which is capable of influencing it, including people's actions, it is also somewhat accessible in your dreams of which it may or may not be a part. Its kind of like how the Old Ones interact with you in Bloodborne (if youve played that) where dreams are just another plane of reality, except a lot more direct. This other dimension's entities interact with the town of twin peaks, some in a negative way, some in a positive way by trying to oppose those acting in a negative way, via communicating with, among others, Dale Cooper. As for the rest you should just watch it, i've spoiled it enough and i dont want to ruin the plot.
It isnt incomprehensible at all, it just doesnt spell itself out for you, it leaves clues for you to piece together, as the plot has both a meta-narrative and a normal one. If you want a genuinely mindfrick of a tv series then watch "Dark", it all makes perfect sense but its really hard to follow as the show takes place over three periods of time, and involves many characters with many plotlines, some of which are in multiple of the time periods, with time travel and shenanigans being involved on top of all of that. It is in german tho.
that is bloodborne
i think there are some startling differences though and wouldn't call the lodge spirits eldritch entities
but you get the gist of the idea through what you're saying, yeah
always saw twin peaks as having a scientific/alchemical/nativeamerican over bloodborne having a more eldritch/spiritual/britishlondonhorror thing
Is there even historical context or is david lynch just filming shit he thinks looks cool? Like, he supposedly made up the season 2 ending almost on the spot. Is something better for having more work put in and intent behind the direction, if the end result is the same? I don't think it matters, myself.
Yes it does, but not in the sense anon you're replying to thinks. It all started with Ronnie Rocket screenplay Lynch wrote after Eraserhead, so the idea was in Lynch's head for like 35 years.
i watched this show despite avoiding it because i thought it was camp based on the fans for the shiw seeming to be gay.
I watched it because i was under the wring impression there would be an xfiles cross over episode. There wasn't.

I understood twin peaks without a problem and I was barely a teenager. You're mentally deficient if you have problems with a fricking tv show.
Think about works like Alice In Wonderland. some things don't have an explanation, but you enjoy the type of world it creates that doesn't seem to follow the rules of common sense
David lynch is the poster child to a multi-billion dollar MLM scheme. Transcendental Meditation TM. Praying upon the most vulnerable people out there going through a crisis. Davis lynch always promotes this shit.
Reputation because AFI is a rotten institution which relies on robbing trust fund kids from overseas elites. Lynch being one of their first alumni, they make their AFI best movies of all time list, placing Lynch’s movies at the very top. Therefore, the school draws in the art kids of the rich, a.k.a. The stupid rich child of the family.
His movies have nothing to show, no plot, no good acting or dialogue, no structure. He’s just a conman. A very good conman.
i think shows have a simple answer a deeper secret answer then the rest of the philosophical explanation or waffle can be summed up as "deep stuff" (which is wrong).

Basically it's about this man who puts on a special magic glove that he can't take off but it helps him fight an evil magical badly cgi'd flying sphere.
Frick you reddit rejects, this is exactly what it's about.
Twin Perfect is actually largely correct in his central premise but he reaches too hard for some of his supposed proofs / symbolism explanations & presents his ideas in such a wanky youtuber way it turns most people off of what is otherwise probably a correct take
It's about the disposability of women characters in murder mystery shows and its negative psychosocial effect on American TV audiences
But it's also ties in with Lynch's buddhist-type beliefs i.e. that fricked-up kind of buddhism where Lynch's self-inserts (most of the black lodge spirits) are party to both the good and the evil in the world and Laura is basically created by them to be doomed to her fate to try and absolve the audience of their sins and this is presented as a good deed on Lynch's part and not cruel existential horror (and the reason Lynch was SO torn up by the network and audience pressure making the show reveal the killer is that it basically means it was in vain, he wanted to leave her death unresolved so the dissatisfaction would frustrate and upset the audience like a girl's life being ended prematurely IRL would for the people who knew her, instead the normies demanded easy closure)
Im going to get flamed for saying this but I feel the need to say it;
I still can't convince myself that there was an actual plot to mulholland drive, theres a bunch of sparse vague shit but it all feels like a lot of flowery nothing. I still feel like he just filmed a bunch of stuff that could be interpreted in a million ways and used that as a crutch
Wasn't there literally an interview where it was said that lynch didn't have a story in mind while they were filming it
You're not wrong. It was initially filmed as a pilot to a tv show, and then reedited as a feature with additional scenes. Same story as Twin Peaks, but this time Lynch couldn't secure funding or whatever and released it as a movie.
>in plain english what's actually going on in Twin Peaks
A whole town has been gradually degenerating over a long period of time and the viewer is progressively shown what lies behind the scenic facade using the murder of the coked up homecoming queen as a starting point.

Up until the end of season 3: >Twin peaks is a small town that's close to the spirit world >there's a murder, turns out it was an evil spirit possessing >good spirits are trying to help bring evil to justice, there are also some evil spirits trying to help for their own reasons >Damn good coffee
After season 3: >Something something time travel >Something something alternate dimensions >HELLOOOOOO!
There is a demon called BOB (all capital), who possess a family man, Leland Palmer, and uses him to rape an kill girls in the area. leland has a daughter, Laura, that would be a better host for BOB, but she resist his possession, probably thank to some psychic trait inherited from his mother Sarah (better explained in the third season), so he tries to corrupt her little by little by raping her regularly, but she resist anyway, so BOB kills her because he's a demon and when demons are pissed with someone they usually kill them. Laura's body is discovered and an FBI agent, Dale Cooper, is sent to Twin Peaks to investigate his death, because in the state of Washington killing a schoolgirl is federal crime. Cooper isn't an average agent tho, he has a basic precognitive ability, and during his investigation he receives hints and helps from the other entities that are connected to the town, in order to stop BOB who is a scourge for both worlds.
Cooper suceed to stop Leland, who confess his crimes and confirms that he was possessed by BOB the whole time, but the demon escapes and seek refuge in a pocket dimension inhabited by the town spirits, and that is accessible to humans by trespassing a certain place in the woods. Cooper enter the dimension, that is the same place he saw in his visions, and but remain trapped in it; from there it escapes his doppelganger, who takes his identity, and BOB, who possess the doppelganger.
Just take one look at David Lynch or listen to any interview and you will have your answer: nothing, there is no meaning, literally style/mood over substance

Traumatized woman has a complex dream and her subconscious attempts to wake her up from it.
Succeeds.
That'd be it.

I watched the show.
Consider this: the entire universe of Twin Peaks is a confirmed dream. You hear it constantly, and even see the pivotal moment that Cooper realizes it himself, and then knows exactly what to do, basically a second layer of Cooper awakening (similar to how he had woken up as Dougie Jones).

Zero evidence for any of this.
As far as the dream thing goes, Cooper says plainly 'We live inside a dream.' And he's watching himself from the third person in the scene.
more evidence for this one than most of the others here
>and even see the pivotal moment that Cooper realizes it himself
What moment?
This one.
Oh frick
I just realised I was gonna ask who is the dreamer? But then I realised that question is actually asked in the show

Nice try anon but that kind of hand-waving isn’t going to fly. I never expressed that sentiment in any shape or form. You lose anon. I’m sure you’re used to it by now lol
Yeah, you keep trying to be an butthole. But you've lost all ground to stand on, and all that's left to you is denying everything like a parrot. That's okay, we weren't disagreeing anyway, you just couldn't admit I was right due to your infantile inflated ego. I accept you concession, you can deflate now and return to normal discussion.
>anon pretends he wants to argue but actually wants to just type out the conversation he already had in his head
I’m not going to play therapist for you anon, you’re lost, hopeless.
Bouncing around isn't going to help you in any way, you know. My offer still stands.
>my offer still stands
On what? It doesn’t have any legs lmao
You yourself admitted I was right four posts ago. That is my ground. I agreed, and said that your aggression was just a misunderstanding. That is my legs.
The only things that stands between us now is your ego. That is a ball that keeps screaming and bouncing around the room.
Correct answer
Ok but what am I GETTING? So I relax and chill and just go along with the flow and the end result is….what?
that you experienced something you haven't before. what else would you want?
Laura Palmer's mother is a demon called Judy that used her husband, possessed by another spirit, to kill Laura.
people trying to figure out lovecraftian creatures
Idiot
why are you calling me an idiot?!
>muh lovecraft

Are cosmic brownies lovecraftian too now, you fricking sperg?

Twin Peaks IS COSMIC HORROR

i liked the weird arty abstract scenes in this, like the hobos invading the radio station.
>abstract
>hobos invading a radio station
>flash mobs are “abstract” now
Fricking zoomers lmao
The detonation of the first nuclear bomb in new mexico in the 1940s tore open a hole in our universe. Through that hole, evil spirits from another dimension invaded our world. These evil spirits feed on pain and suffering. They find human hosts and hide in their bodies, leading them to commit heinous acts to feed on the misery of those acts. The story is about an FBI agent investigating the consequences of these evil spirits in the small town of Twin Peaks. He is aided by other spirits who oppose the evil spirits, but he gets in over his head and makes things worse.
nah its the uranium they used in the bomb tests came from twin peaks and is tainted by the lodge.
Btw two of the nukes irl were called Bob and Mike

No.
apparently s.0.y autotranslates to onions. good one Cinemaphile hilarious
Better late than never to find out that, newfriend
>hilarious
Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on Cinemaphile by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox c**tsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is Cinemaphile. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a b***h. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it.
Cringe

welcome
enjoy your stay
do people actually cosplay as Cooper loool
Someone i know does, he thinks he is an intellectual and also reads weird french and italian fascist political theory and fiction books from the 20s and 30s. One of the most nonassuming but secretly hyper autistic and insecure people i've ever met.
people like him is why subreddits like Iamsmart exist
u gotta go back bro
I'm a secret agent for Cinemaphile working from inside reddit to overthrow it.
4.5 hrs of kino here we go
>people thought the murder mystery was solved
i realised at the first episode it was her mom not her dad that was behind it all.
They send people to hell/nirvana and everything gets wonky
>HURRRRRRRvana
only women love this show because they think they can follow the nonsensical logic
soibois latched on to get pussy
at the end of the day it's all a fight of good vs evil
HELLOOOO
Very nice, I've always liked the sound design in Lynch's stuff
i personally think Lynch is just messing with the audience
You won't get it, Timmy. Just go watch Spangee Boboooo. It too has deep ideas.
lynched
You wouldn't get it.
I have watched it, there's nothing to spoil, it's incomprehensible
its fairly easy to get the fans just get mad when you explain it
It isnt incomprehensible at all, it just doesnt spell itself out for you, it leaves clues for you to piece together, as the plot has both a meta-narrative and a normal one. It is in german tho.
>mindfrick
Grow up already anon, what are you, 30?
Its just an appropriate word for the headache it gave me 🙁
nice comparison to bloodborne, i'd say that videogame is the closest any has gotten to those ideas that twin peaks has
imo theyre both lovecraftian inspired, dreams as reality, eldrich entities and fear of the unknown
that is bloodborne
i think there are some startling differences though and wouldn't call the lodge spirits eldritch entities
but you get the gist of the idea through what you're saying, yeah
always saw twin peaks as having a scientific/alchemical/nativeamerican over bloodborne having a more eldritch/spiritual/britishlondonhorror thing
funny you bring up Elden Ring
Twin Peaks is the Forgive Me, Zanzibart pseud plot theory bait of Cinemaphile
Yellow hands typed this
post a pic of your girl so I can reply "black dick fricked this"
??
what do chinks have to do with anything
A chink made that post
>ahhhhh u bracked u bad man
Cope Chang
+5 CCP credits awarded
>people try to explain a show without researching all the historical context
annoys me
Is there even historical context or is david lynch just filming shit he thinks looks cool?
Explaining it to an autistic sperg like you it would ve like trying to explain sounds to a deaf person, there is no point.
>pseud
I understood twin peaks without a problem and I was barely a teenager. You're mentally deficient if you have problems with a fricking tv show.
its all mkultra psyops, ffs the end credits outright say it every episode
>bad guy gets defeated by some random with a stupid back story
lol lmao
Cooper is Lynch self insert
Cooper is the audience
but Lynch is literally in the show????
It's a jab (pun intended) at capeshit and capeshitters.
it was hamfisted
so that you'd feel the absurdity
James should have been given the glove
No, Nadine
arm should have glub
bring nadine back just to have her watch a video of dr jacoby then never appear again
what did lynch mean by this?
Bring back James just to have him hang around Freddie who actually moves their arc forward.
Logic defying surrealism.
Think about works like Alice In Wonderland. some things don't have an explanation, but you enjoy the type of world it creates that doesn't seem to follow the rules of common sense
Two things: Money and Reputation.
His show and films are an open admittance he is in engaging in Hollywood mind control.
>admittance
Hi Chang
Please take your meds I am begging you
CHING CHONG BANG CHANG
Can you explain what makes you think theses posts were made by a chinese guy? I'm genuinely interested
Imagine being so mentally fragile and spiritually weak that you think that any imagery that touches upon what's in your subconscious is mind control
Thanks for posting this i knew there was something fishy about this guy
Any a' you fellas got a link of the "Just you" shitpost song?
> what's actually going on in Twin Peaks
The absurd mystery of the strange forces of existence.
i think shows have a simple answer a deeper secret answer then the rest of the philosophical explanation or waffle can be summed up as "deep stuff" (which is wrong).
laura palmer was killed and they need to figure out who did it
>wrote a 700+ characters rant about what was lynch's problem in season 3
>immediately cancelled posting it the moment I finished writing it because you meme loving fricks would just shitpost "didn't read lol launched lmao get a load of this low IQ moron he didn't "get it" lmaooo xdxd" instead of trying the explan what in the god damn FRICK was lynch's problem throughout the whole fricking season
he was trying to create an xfiles pastiche
David Lynch is a massive tryhard and so are his fans, this thread is a perfect example
what in the frick
guy in the crown is clearly mistranslating something without thinking of what it would mean in the context of germany post ww2
the goal is to create as many meditators in a city population as possible to have a benefit outcome on the whole in any given area i believe
>split infinitive
Definitely a chink lol
>poor reading comprehension
definitely speedwatched twin peaks
>ahhhhhh me no Chinese
I don’t get it, why are chinks so ashamed of their heritage?
has there ever been a people in all of history more defeated than the germans?
freemason stuff
Small towns are weird but wholesome and electricity (and everything that came with it) is literally demonic. Also, blonde girls with blue eyes are saviors of humanity even if they have a bad coke habit.
Literally the best answer in this thread.
what's demonic about electricity? i kind of like air conditioning and refrigeration
I don’t give a shit what you think.
I accept your concession, thanks for giving it so quickly.
Congrats on winning a debate on Cinemaphile. You’ll definitely get pussy and admiration out of this insignificant victory.
he saw it in dogma and doesn't question it
>mind control devices in every hand
>filth and perversion everywhere you look
>real community replaced with the hyperreal
>nature raped and pillaged
i like my fridge too, but it was a bad trade
An ancient evil awakes.
Literally nobody knows but everyone has a theory, each more moronic than the last. If you challenge it they just say LYNCHED
WHAAAA?
It was all a dream OP.
>nukes + magic = spooky beings
>spooky beings start doing spooky shit
>twin peaks is their current residence for no reason
>they get up to spooky shit in twin peaks
>detective solves the riddle behind the murders by figuring out it was spooky guys
>accidently becomes a spooky guy
>then unbecomes a spooky guy by fighting them after unravelling the history of the spooky guy people
>also some random psycho becomes a cripple for no reason
ez
Hallelujah!
ONE ONE NINE
Im going to get flamed for saying this but I feel the need to say it;
I still can't convince myself that there was an actual plot to mulholland drive, theres a bunch of sparse vague shit but it all feels like a lot of flowery nothing. I still feel like he just filmed a bunch of stuff that could be interpreted in a million ways and used that as a crutch
Wasn't there literally an interview where it was said that lynch didn't have a story in mind while they were filming it
It was Inland Empire I think, he filmed 2 or 3 scenes separately with seemingly no apparent connection but he formed a story from those 3 scenes
All of the common lynch criticisms apply only to IE, you have to view it as a schizophrenic nightmare and not as an actual movie
You're not wrong. It was initially filmed as a pilot to a tv show, and then reedited as a feature with additional scenes. Same story as Twin Peaks, but this time Lynch couldn't secure funding or whatever and released it as a movie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulholland_Drive_(film)#Plot
that just describes the literal events of the movie scene by scene, not their intended meaning
The intended meaning is if you try to make your dreams come true in Hollywood, you'll get destroyed
>in plain english what's actually going on in Twin Peaks
A whole town has been gradually degenerating over a long period of time and the viewer is progressively shown what lies behind the scenic facade using the murder of the coked up homecoming queen as a starting point.
>A whole town
Is it, like, a METAPHOR of, like, the country??!!
It's already been masterfully deconstructed and explained in plain english.
>four hours
frick it
do it in pieces if you must
he splits things up nice and neat, and revisits things so you won't be lost when you come back
plane english, my bad. Meant to link this post too:
Wow. So many anons ITT are mad as frick but barely any have attempted to actually frame it. OP literally just asked what it means and anons got defensive and butthurt because they knew there is no meaning LMAO
unironically this, I like Twin Peaks but tv got btfo. Not a single person with even a vague explanation of the story
see:
Up until the end of season 3:
>Twin peaks is a small town that's close to the spirit world
>there's a murder, turns out it was an evil spirit possessing
>good spirits are trying to help bring evil to justice, there are also some evil spirits trying to help for their own reasons
>Damn good coffee
After season 3:
>Something something time travel
>Something something alternate dimensions
>HELLOOOOOO!
There wasn't real time travel
Laura Palmer’s friend who survived the murder-rape shenanigans crossed the border to Idaho, making it a federal case.
>(better explained in the third season
if you dont find it entertaining, you're a pleb. simple as
kino
season 3 was so good I can't watch anything anymore and enjoy it
I know that feel
Just take one look at David Lynch or listen to any interview and you will have your answer: nothing, there is no meaning, literally style/mood over substance
and that's a good thing
Not really
Why?
it's about family
twin peaks is about two big old breasts and my big ol dick fricking em'
