HBO Max is going to be folded into Discovery+ or whatever, and probably get its back catalog gutted

I just dont get how they think having less things available will bring in subs. Why is every exec an absolute moron?
Like the batgirl movie, id never see it but some people want it, why not just put it out on streaming instead of shelving it. Is it really so bad they think people will cancel their hbo sub because of it?

They knew Batgirl wasn't going to make back the $90 million so they cancelled it as a tax write off. It was probably the right decision all things considered.

Not just movies. When MS bought Nokia they wrote off that entire operation.

Wtf. Who the hell has Discovery+? I can only imagine Neil Tyson DeGrassi worshippers watch that shit. HBOMax is based. So many old cartoons.

WB-Disco is killing off HBO Max. Right now they're playing coy about it.

Having 2 streaming services was always moronic. Putting discovery+ and HBO max together is the correct move, but I don't know why they chose to keep discovery when that means there would be two D+ on the market

          >I don't know why they chose to keep discovery
Because hbomax comes with the hbo subscription. They want to make people double dip and pay them twice. It will probably work for some but jesus christ they are greedy fricks

I will simply go back to pirating. israelites never realized that people pirate shit because of market inefficiencies and anger at their monopolies. Fairly priced, easily accessible content will always win out. Consumers are willing to pay for good content as long as they aren't getting fleeced. They are just shooting themselves in the foot.

Yep. People pay for good service simple as. But people aren't willing to pay for what they previously got for free. If Olive Garden announced they were charging for breadsticks, they would be out of business tomorrow

Is there a modern guide to pirating somewhere? I haven't done it in well over a decade and am a bit lost as to what I have to do now. I'm too fricking old to keep up with these VPNs and shit

windscribe is really easy to use and they give you 10gbs for free, you'd have to pay a few bucks for any more.

This is so true, but they are trying their hardest to ignore this. In the end it's a very delicate balance, convincing people to sub, but a simple one. Make it a value, and make it convenient. If either of these two conditions is not right, people go back to pirating. I hate getting ripped off, but I also hate byzantine bullshit services that make me do extra work. (For example, Hulu with it's layers and levels.)

And a lot of people will just dip because the whole point of max is that its associated with HBO, not a trashy channel full of reality TV. Look at the threads, people have no faith in Discovery. The brand isn't associated with any good shows, nobody is going to care and just moving the catalogue over won't solve the problem. Max can get away with having good stuff carry over from the main HBO channel alongside a bunch of mediocre things to round out the library, discovery won't because people will be far less forgiving of those mediocre shows.

They would, unironically, be better off just folding discovery into max and then forcing current HBO subscribers to pay an extra fee for max if they're so intent on double dipping.

it's moronic bullshit, the HBO brand is incredibly strong and it was one of the fastest growing streamers last year, there is no way they are changing the name and if you believe anything she has said you are a huge moron

This. Its the HBO name that carries weight, and that value took decades to build. Even if an HBO show wasn't that good, you could at least be confident it wasn't mass produced garbage.

It's speculation based on things she has heard from her sources. She says she has no idea how its going to shake out but it's sounding like they don't want to keep the HBO in the name. The smart money is on them combining the services and giving it a new name because nobody on the globe thinks of Discovery as a place to get good scripted TV and if they are not going to be doing that anymore they better get ready for the exodus to Hulu.

Although Discovery is doing this to cut costs and they are pivoting to low-cost reality show crap, the HBO and HBOMax branding was stupid.

That Witches remake looked like utter shit and I can't believe Seth Rogen's israelite pickle movie even got made. The others are just mediocre garbage. All these movies deserved to be deleted not only from their streaming service but from existence.

They aren't deleted from existence though. They are just going to be sold to other streaming services like Netflix where they will get more eyes on them and become more popular.

Are they really changing how HBO's streaming works again? Frick off. Most companies can only dream of having a successful streaming service, but HBO's overlords take it for granted and try their best to ruin it

Because a lot of money is never enough. They always need to make more, and they often sabotage themselves by breaking lucrative services.
