>the light year in-universe movie is supposed to be designed to sell toys. >The movie doesn't sell Buzz at all. >A literal toy cat is the character the movie is selling.
The simple answer is that Lightyear being a 1995 that introduced Andy to Buzz is a dumb as frick retcon that you have to perform olympic level mental gymnastics in order for it to fit in and make sense and should thus be disregarded.
Could this be the movie that finally kills the Pixar Theory, by explicitly trying to draw convoluted inter-movie continuity and doing a shit job of it??
Well it would be pretty easy to put this in the Pixar theory, the movie itself gives us a date and tells us right away that it's supposed to be a movie within the universe itself, you can already tell that this movie isn't related to anything in the Pixar theory because it's fiction within it's own universe.

I'm saying that the movie is so obvious a shitty retcon that it might finally kill any enthusiasm fans have for doing shitty fan retcons themselves
Trailers made me think he was setting up a twist where the "movie" was actually set in a child's games and we'd get to see a Buzz figure out that he was a toy from his own perspective, like a less comedy-oriented version of The Lego Movie. Without that, I'm not sure what the point of this character's existence is.
if you want to get into specifics, the lightyear movie doesn't contradict anything established of the buzz lightyear toyline in the first two movies like the star command cartoon did.
Isn't it the other way around? I know that Pixar hates the Star Command cartoon, but isn't it much more compatible with what's shown in the Toy Story movies than this shitty new movie is?
In Toy Story the little green men are just Pizza Planet merchandise. They weren't part of the Buzz Lightyear toyline, but the cartoon retconned them in.

There's a difference between a retcon that recontextualizes preexisting canon in a way that wasn't originally intended and a retcon that outright contradicts preexisting canon; the latter is much harder to justify than the former.

Yes and the cartoon contradicts the Toy Story canon.

So does the movie because in TS Buzz is huge as a toy line because of his movie, but irl contradicts this with his movie flopping.

They should have just remastered the star command movie and re-release it on theaters.

They should have just done something original instead
I don't know why it took until this movie for people to realize Pixar disowns the Star Command cartoon and views it the same way as those direct to dvd sequel
>Canonically those are pizza planet characters
I bet the LGM's are more like the Minions of the Toy Story universe. Very marketable, faces all over merchandise.
Good God, they were in the Star command show and everything, they could have marketed them as the minion type character and printed themselves more money, what the frick were they thinking?
The first half of Lightyear was great but the movie took a nosedive once the misfit crew was introduced in the second half. I wish the entire movie was about Buzz, Alisha and Sox.
I wouldn't say the first half was great but it was certainly interesting. The moment the misfits showed up I knew exactly what kind of movie this was going to be and it seems like the movie did too, given how quickly it ran down the story beats
The only things that are mentioned about Buzz pre-plot is that he is friends with the boring diversity hire space ranger and that he always narrated his missions via the logs no one actually hears.
LMAO >I watched the first half of the movie and came here >wow why is everyone complaining about the space dilation stuff, it wasn't that hard or that inaccurate >watch the second half
holy frick you guys were write. Who the frick wrote this shit?
Iger up to 2017 was arguably the "Best" modern Disney CEO.
>Fixed negotiations with Pixar for their Buyout, was wise enough to let them have full creative control. > Put Lasseter on charge of Disney Animation, canning the cheapquels. >Got the franchise Juggernaut that is Cars. >Returned Star Wars to a film household name.
They didn't run him out because of the hugging; that was a pretext. They ran him out because he was just barely too virtuous and competent for them to work with.
>the light year in-universe movie is supposed to be designed to sell toys.
>The movie doesn't sell Buzz at all.
>A literal toy cat is the character the movie is selling.
Makes you wonder why Andy didn't make his mom buy Sox for his birthday instead of Buzz.
The simple answer is that Lightyear being a 1995 that introduced Andy to Buzz is a dumb as frick retcon that you have to perform olympic level mental gymnastics in order for it to fit in and make sense and should thus be disregarded.
I wonder if that Pixar Theory guy will eat it up regardless though
Could this be the movie that finally kills the Pixar Theory, by explicitly trying to draw convoluted inter-movie continuity and doing a shit job of it??

I still suspect they only designed that character because they had leftover toys or material from trying to capitalize on Goose from Captain Marvel.
Is he actually good, or is he just cute?
he is fine.
He's cute, he gets the few jokes in the movie that actually land, and he gets shit done.
He has some of the best line delivery in the entire movie.
He’s not a minority or gay.
Nor is Buzz but he's not a good character either
Socks is definitely gay
I'm pretty you could count him as asexual since he has no genitals and probably doesn't feel any sexual attraction to anyone canonically.
eh, he probably would go off with a female version of himself with a pink collar. i've seen cartoons
Sure, 20 years ago he would.
Asexual just means he's gay coded in current year.
made for BBC?
big black cat?
peter sohn's delivery is very good
He's literally the only competent character in the movie
le ebin toyetic robot sidekick who doesn't understand human social cues and conventions
how unique and refreshing
Cringe pandering character, just repackaging Baymax as a fricking cat.
This is completely accurate and he's still, sadly, somehow, the best character in the movie.
You know something's wrong if the Jar Jar Binks of the movie is the best character
He's the mcguffin
So just like Captain Marvel?
The "let's sell more toys" one.
>cat who shoots sleeping darts
MEGA when?
Trailers made me think he was setting up a twist where the "movie" was actually set in a child's games and we'd get to see a Buzz figure out that he was a toy from his own perspective, like a less comedy-oriented version of The Lego Movie. If they needed a cute, kid-appeal (or rather girl-appeal) character, why not settle for the LGMs?
Canonically those are pizza planet characters
Because the movie was soooooooooooooooooooo concerned with canon
Well yeah. It's obvious that the star command show obviously made a deal with pizza planet and thus the reason why the LGM are on the show.
if you want to get into specifics, the lightyear movie doesn't contradict anything established of the buzz lightyear toyline in the first two movies like the star command cartoon did.

It was, that's why it completely disregards that NONCANON PIECE OF SHIT SHOW THAT PIXAR NEVER LIKED, STAR COMMAND!
I don't know why it took until this movie for people to realize Pixar disowns the Star Command cartoon and views it the same way as those direct to dvd sequel
In fairness I don't think many have thought about the show again until this movie.
Was it that bad?
No, it's pretty entertaining but pixar just fricking hates it.
Oh okay.
Star Command show they acted as the go to worker drones.
Explain Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
Checkmate atheist.
>Canonically those are pizza planet characters

MEGA? CAMRIP? anyone?
There are two camrips out.
which websites? couldn't find anything on rarbg
rlsbb.ru
well thanks but none of the mirrors allow me to download without paying a stupid premium. I guess I'm fricked
use the ones in the comments anon
Why not use an actual creative character than a fricking cat?
Like a robot.
>why not be creative? lmao
Which Hollywood do you think you're talking to right now, anon?
was he named after bill clinton's cat?
No, Sox is named after the Red Sox, whereas Socks is named the only place Bill Clinton never came on an intern.
The first half of Lightyear was great but the movie took a nosedive once the misfit crew was introduced in the second half. I wish the entire movie was about Buzz, Alisha and Sox.

No kid would want an action figure of depressed Buzz with a dark Interstellar backstory and a praetor suit
Watch, he'll star in the next Pixar short. Or in some short film added to Lightyear's Bluray.
He'll probably have his own spin-off show, just like Forky.
Or in KH4
Okay just to ask. Is there any backstory in the film for Buzz?
The only things that are mentioned about Buzz pre-plot is that he is friends with the boring diversity hire space ranger and that he always narrated his missions via the logs no one actually hears.
LMAO

holy frick you guys were write. Who the frick wrote this shit?
Does Disney miss him now?
At this point Disney is starting to miss Michael Eisner
Iger up to 2017 was arguably the "Best" modern Disney CEO.
>Fixed negotiations with Pixar for their Buyout, was wise enough to let them have full creative control.
> Put Lasseter on charge of Disney Animation, canning the cheapquels.
>Got the franchise Juggernaut that is Cars.
>Returned Star Wars to a film household name.
Then the SJWs ran Lasseter out because of the hugging.
They didn't run him out because of the hugging; that was a pretext. They ran him out because he was just barely too virtuous and competent for them to work with.
it's not fair that the alternate version of him died
I refuse to watch this movie so just answer me, does this actually tie into toy story in a way that makes sense?
No. If anything this being the movie Andy watched to make him want Buzz makes no fricking sense
>there is a character that looks like Buzz Lightyear
>he says some quotes from the original Buzz a few times in the movie
That's about it. No lore, feel, or wit of the original material.
why wasn't sox included with buzz toy?
>The most Disney-ass character is the only good thing in the movie
That’s been their agenda for a while now.
