netflix wanted to resurrect monsterverse as dracula untold and mummy are big hits there but it seems like universal wants to do something else with their monsters

Please no. Dracula Untold was the only decent film from that shitshow.

I thought this was a pretty good movie, I remember discussing it on Cinemaphile a few times and it's set up for a sequel

there is just not much dark medieval fantasy out there.
and it had the renowned canadian actress Sara Gadon on it.

This movie was supposed to be the first entery in the dark universe but they fricked up with marketing and didn't even dare to mention that the mummy was a secret sequel. As a result, the mummy was critically panned for setting up dark universe (despite the fact it was already set up in dracula untold) and dracula untold has been completely abandoned. In the end we have no monsters universe and just two movies that were supposed to be connected but then separaded and discarded. Amazing how these Hollywood idiots still got their jobs.

the whole "monsters universe" sounds like a sad attempt at copying marvel anyway, these stories are able to stand alone. still with charles dance and the hobbit guy in it you'd figure they have got it the advertising.

Many people say about Marvel things but the truth is they wanted to do monsters universe since 2004 starting with Van Helsing. That movie was simply ahead if it's time and whole idea died. Then Paramount refreshed this concept with Marvel movies so Universal thought it is the right time to try again.

they should forget about making a 'universe' and just attempt to make a couple of good, successful movies. then take it from there.

That's their plan now but ironically these standalone movies flopped even harder.

Best thing they could do would make standalone films but with backdoor connections to other films.
                >Renfield completely missed the mark but despite that Nic Cage Dracula was kino
                >do Abigail mostly the same but instead of the literal who playing Dracula at the end have it be Nic Cage Dracula
                >Wolfman movie
                >have him be the decendant of Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins wolfmans
Still would be easy enough to cobble something together from their various attempts over the years

plus none of these changes would effect plots in a way jekyll messes up with the mummy
                seriously they are so moronic
they put shoehorned characters where they dont fit and they skip on putting small cameo nods where it would work

The first MCU movies were linked just by small nods at the end of the movies, or some post--credits tease.
It was only with Iron Man 2 that they started to be obnoxious about linking the movies in more obvious ways, which at the time most people complained about because it fricked with the pace of the movies.

The 1st ironman movie has a whole unrelated stane where they tease project avengers. It's not even a part of propr plot. It's just a forced post credit scene. They obviously planned this from the begining. What was the reason for this scene?

I quite enjoyed the James mcavay Frankenstein, always pictured that in the same universe as Untold and Toro’s Wolfman

Which one? 2010? That's just action slop masquerading as a horror, albeit with no scares. There's no reason it needed 150M budget.

that's a pity (my reaction to sequels & remakes now given how pozzed everything is by default)

the 1st one was pretty good
in fact it's the only good movie from the "monster universe" imo
even the Tom Cruise one was bad
which is an achievement in itself since it had Tom Cruise & Russel Crowe

The biggest problem with Universal is that they have no proper plans. All these movies had a chance to be a part of one big shared universe but for some reason they decided to split them into unrelated stories and there's no momentum anymore. They still filmed them and wasted money and resources instead of preparing a solid plan.
