He’s actually a pretty smart guy. He wrote the script for Rocky, for one thing. Just because he acts like a stereotypical muscled-up Italian-American greaseball doesn’t mean that’s all there is to him.

Dont forget he ruined expendables as well. 1 & 2 were decent for what they were but he makes 3 pg-13 and terrible trying to chase Fast and Furious money then made an even worse 4th movie a decade later striking while the iron was ice cold.
Rocky didn't even end on a high note if you count the last 2 Creed films. They just pretend he doesn't exist in the last one because they were having disagreements yet didn't want to commit to killing him off screen

Lots of the time not overthinking and just keeping stories straightforward and predictable works and is successful. Lot of audiences don’t like to think or talked down to.

His Paradise Alley film is underrated.
yeah this film shows he really was both brilliant, and an idiot at once. two halves working together.
That one turned out not so good due to heavy studio interference, one might think that after Rocky (where they pretty much left the project alone due to very low budget) they would trust him enough for a moderately budget film, but no, they forced him to star in it and interfered heavily.
Didn't even help the picture since Paradise Alley became a huge flop and pretty much lead the way to Sly doing one dimensional action movies who actually made money.

He is simply the most successful of his peers. Creating franchinses that survives time and time again, being relevant, having a lot of support of the media and the casual watchers without throwing away his personal values and faith. Dude is a fricking example of a good human bean.

Sly is pretty smart, probably not Dolph Lundgren smart, but you are moronic thinking he isn't at least around IQ 120-130, even in his earliest interviews after Rocky he is extremely eloquent despite being from a poor af background and the script of Rocky alone is a perfect example of adaption towards scenarios that didn't went how he planned (like adding in the production mistakes of the movie as a plot point, that is more difficult than it first seems).

At least half the films Stallone has written/directed are flops. He's only really been consistently involved with successful films for roughly the past 10 years.
