Jane as a character exists only to physically represent an addiction. She never had to be in the show but it was a clever way to dramatize Jesse as an addict rather than him just being alone and taking heroin. This representation is more immersive for the viewer and it's easier to comprehend the feeling of loss as most viewers are not or have never been addicts. Her death was basically just Walt taking the heroin away from Jesse who then had to deal with withdrawal. Looking at her as a character with intentions is just silly.
