Lmao, I'll never let JUNCgays forget that the first part was marketed as the next Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

Apparently Villeneuve thought that was boring, so Harkonnens all look like freaks instead.

They always looked like freaks in Lynch's adapatation and the miniseries.
Now they just look like bad vampire cosplayers.

      >>add entire sequence in black and white
It's not black and white. It's just people with heavy pale white makeup and entirely grey costumes, which looks pretty much monochrome when you apply the same colour grading approach that they had for DUNC 1 and desaturate the shit out of everything.

      Because Villeneuve is a hack.

Is Dune just unadaptable? Lynch's Dune goes off the reservation with the weird sonic weapons early on, cuts out a lot of characters, and the pacing is all over the place.

Villeneuve's Dune is really dry and slow despite cutting out some very important scenes and split into two movies.

Both have some really good scenes, but both feel like they're questionable adaptations and mediocre movies on their own. I have not seen the miniseries.

Even if it weren't, there are sections of it that people will simply refuse to do properly. All 3 versions have skimmed over Chani resembling a wild cousin of Jessica, hinting even further at the incestous Harkonnen parentage, and that the Fremen might not be entirely native.

          >Is Dune just unadaptable
I think so. The draw with Dune is the autistic level worldbuilding, how the political, economic, and religious factions fit together. Even in a series, it would require a bunch of expository dialogue or Lynch-style voice-over to get it across. And if they decided to continue with the other books, it would only get worse as the series goes on. The only possible way to adapt it properly would be to rape it with love.

          >Is Dune just unadaptable?
Every single book is unadaptable if your standard is that nothing may be cut or quickly passed over.
A good adaptation needs some freedoms, and cannot slavishly adhere to every single written word.
Thing is: Where Lnych and Syfy both walked the line, but ultimately managed to be at least decent, Villeneuve doesn't even seem to care about keeping the story and its themes intact.
Basically: Who cares about "weirding modules" or a rushed pacing (which Lynch probably could nonetheless have handled better, had he been allowed final cut) during a relatively uneventful part of the story, as long as you still get the same general story with the same characters, themes and emotions across?

Part one was really extremely mid, and somehow managed to convey even less of the lore than the Lynch movie. They should have just made it a series like GOT.
