It's just visual, don't tey make sense out of it cause the creator didn't thought much about it. They just knew the ships were cylinders and someone in the writing comitee said it would be cool.

You're exactly right, the heighliners folded space around them not created a wormhole. It's explicitly described in the books and then they just do whatever.
I don't like basically any visual adaptation of technology/world building in the DUNCs.

Like ornithopters are consistently described as having bird-like wings with metal feathers.
    >helicopter dragonfly
Paul looking into the future is described as these huge waves of events rising higher and then crashing down into nothingness
    >close up of Chalamet's face
Everyone fights with knives in order to get cheap shots underneath an opponent's guard to slip slowly through the shield
    >just swing sword really fast, shield will break probly
Huge battle of Arakeen is Harkonnen artillery pounding the un-shielded palace followed by soldiers storming
    >space ships shoot shield-penetrating missiles at Atreides space ships, because they could always just shoot through shields

And I know it's controversial here on Cinemaphile but: Fremen constantly described as having brown skin, hook noses, live in desert, practice pretend islam, use Arabic words, Persian words are everywhere
    >Fremen are spanish, black, half white/half black, chinee, just don't make them enemies of Israel

The Fremen were also completely ignorant of anything outside of their world and modern technology, like the Sentinel Islanders are to the people in developed countries IRL.

    tunneling through space and time
and they need the navigators to essentially "draw" the quantum tunnel.

Discussing how tech works in the space fantasy movies is not necessary and would come off as lame. The tech if the world is the tech. Your mom doesn't discuss the inner workings of the combustion engines when she goes to the grocery store. She just goes to meet Tyrone in the parking lot like everybody else.

What's really lame about these movies are the lack of mentats flexing brain cells or esoterically freakish guild navigators.

              Dune 84' ftw

Nta but the lore and logic of spice surrounds the lore and logic of space travel in itself, and also correlates to the fact that ten thousand years prior it was robots who did all that work

because he was intentionally fed false information by the space witches
he was told there was no one in the south of the planet because the storms were too strong and made the region uninhabitable
but in reality there were "millions" of fremen ready and waiting to fight
not only that but he didnt know paul was still alive, also he didnt know that leto had stored all of his nukes in secret on arrakis
and without the nukes he would have stood a much better chance because no nukes means the mountains dont get destroyed which means the sand worms can only attack from one direction and then get trapped. and it would have meant the shields would have stayed up.
it also would have mean that hundreds of saudukar would still be alive to protect him as well as 3 of the highest ranking harkonnen and bene gesserit
his plan was fine and in pretty much any other situation he would have lived and probably won, especially since he called all of the great houses to help and they arrived with war fleets in orbit.

Navigators are able to see every possible moment and possible outcome to when they launch their ship and just sling shot it in nearly an instant across space missing random rocks and trash to make it to their destination. You have to remember, they have no navigating computers and no way to have sensors to penetrate that deep into space, they literally have no choice but to see all possible futures and just slingshot blindly. It's actually pretty cool, it's so impossible they have to get super powers to do it, that's why, without the spice, you can't space travel, they would crash every ship each time, they only have like a one out of a billion shot to not crash and spice lets them see it.

The highliners use the holtzman effect to stretch space and shrink space. The navigator helps guide the folding or fields force.
