It's already over. Denis has seived everything interesting about Dune out. Now when normalgays hear Dune they will think of grey actors in grey power rangers suits in a grey desert. If anyone else tries to make anything Dune related that is what they will make because that is what audiences expect.

Yeah, you're right. It's over. You just know the meme actors are why Dunc makes money and the astroturfing, it being an adaptation of Dune is besides the point. What a fricking disgrace. Chani is the beautiful and amazing feminine ideal, not some TikTok mutt. FRICK DENIS.

Don't worry, we will get a new adaptation in 20 years. Dune seems to come back every 20 or so years.

That's true. All of it's tropes, ideas and the style and aesthetic are more befitting of an anime from the 80's. It also inspired a bunch of classics like Code Geass directly.

How is Code Geass inspired by Dune?

Lelouch is Paul Atredeis complete with the voice power.

I thought it was his eye that had the power

            Anonymous

That's merely an aesthetic thing to signal the power visually. The voice is his power. I guess Lelouch is more like Leto II in that he sacrifices himself for the greater good at the cost of losing everything dear to him and being known as a tyrant.

          Anonymous

The power is based on the geas of Irish folklore, not The Voice. If only there was a clue to this connection in Code Geass somewhere.

            >Black haired prince who leads a resistance with a voice that can command others, is a Messiah figure and ultimately sacrifices himself to save humanity
That last part is more Leto 2 but still.

A Messiah figure who claims royal blood, organises a group of followers (or disciples, you could say) into a resistance and sacrifices himself to save humanity. Never been done before DUNC, you're right.

I am not convinced. The simularies are very generic. It also doesn't matter because neither Dune nor Code Geass are very good. Dune gets points for the sheer weirdness of its worldbuilding, but it really is just the story of a deposed prince going native on his path to revenge.

There's a general similarity, on a conceptual basis and visually.

Yes. Dune is a childrens novel. Things are not adult nor mature for their content but the way they are written. Dune is clearly a childrens novel.

This is probably true. The only audience that would be able to accept all the "heckin weird" and "misogynistic" shit in the books would be Japanese, and the only creators who would both accept it and have the capacity to make it would be Japanese. I didn't hate Villeneuve's first film (I guess I was cautiously optimistic after watching), but the second one sealed it for me and I'll probably never watch another film of his ever again.

All the creativity, ingenuity and soulful quality of Frank's original story and characters absolutely bastardized and infantilized. Denis should go to hell.

And? That's the good part. For me, Lynch's Dune is definitively Dune.

Ikegami Ryoichi + David Lynch = KINO

I really do believe animation is the most underused and unfairly disposed of all mediums. It could portray stories in ways unthinkable in live action but it'll never be treated with serious intent or regard. Animation gives the characters such life. I don't like anime much anymore but the overall concept is amazing. Look at the characters and how dynamic they are portrayed as, more than any real human could ever embody.
