Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN script

>Petty criminal Scott Lang is released from prison and discovers that his wife Maggie has left him and taken their daughter Cassie. Scott then becomes determined to go straight in order to win them back.
>Maggie is now dating Detective Jim Paxton, Scott’s longtime rival for Maggie’s affections, who is determined to catch Scott committing a crime in order to send him back to prison and get Scott out of his way.
>Meanwhile, physicist Hank Pym learns that his daughter Hope Van Dyne and his protégé Graydon Clarke have conspired to steal away his company, Pym Technologies.
>Hope blames Hank for the death of her mother Janet Van Dyne in one of Hank’s experiments, while Clarke resents Hank for never sharing with him his greatest creation, the Pym Particles.
>Clarke has created his own suit, the Nano Warrior, which he intends to weaponize for the United States military. Hank then hires Scott to suit up as Ant-Man and destroy the Nano Warrior suit.
>Scott assembles his old gang to help him pull off the heist, but has a falling out with Hank when he discovers that prolonged exposure to Pym Particles is harmful to the human body and Hank selected him for deeming Scott expendable.
>Hope learns about the Nano Warrior’s side effects and objects to Clarke’s plan to use its pilots as unwitting test subjects to refine the technology at the expense of their health.
>Hank admits to Hope that Janet died from prolonged exposure to Pym Particles, but he was unaware of its effects at the time, and Hope forgives him for his indirect role in Janet’s death.
>Meanwhile, Scott decides to complete the mission after apologizing to Maggie for his constant mistakes and learning that despite his flaws Cassie still views him as a hero.

    >Hope disables Pym Particles’ security system, allowing Scott and his crew to infiltrate the building. However, Paxton betrays Scott to Clarke, having learned the truth from Maggie, and Clarke captures Scott and Hank.
    >Scott manages to escape, and Clarke suits up as the Nano Warrior to fight him, while Hanks sacrifices himself to destroy Clarke’s technology.
    >A vengeful Clarke escapes and targets Maggie and Cassie, but Scott manages to intercept him at Maggie’s house following a car chase. Clarke dies when the suit malfunctions during the fight.
    >Paxton is fired and Maggie leaves him after learning that he indirectly endangered Cassie. Scott and Maggie get back together.
    >Hope becomes the CEO of Pym Technologies, and employs Scott and his crew as her new security team, and begins upgrading the Ant-Man suit for Scott.

    >Scott’s gang has eight members, with Matt Gerald and Jordan Peele set to play additional members.
    >Clarke employs his loyal but ineffective cousin William Cross as Pym Technologies’ Chief of Security.
    >Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the runner-up for Scott Lang.
    >Jessica Chastain was the original choice for Hope Van Dyne.
    >Pierce Brosnan was considered for Hank Pym.
    >Patrick Wilson was originally set to play Jim Paxton.

Yeah, the story sounds like a downgrade to me, but, I'm sure the visual style of the movie would've been incredibly distinct and memorable.

Edgar wright is a better director than i forgot his name so the final product would’ve been better though

Apparently only on the visual department. I like some changes like Hank not dying.

If i had a nickel for every time Pierce Brosnan played as an old super hero who died at the end of the movie, i would have one-and-a-half nickels which is not much but it's weird that it almost happened twice.

The final script plus Wright's direction sounds like the way to go

It's been a while since I've watched Ant-Man, but this is kinda already what happened isn't it?
    >Scott gets released from prison, his wife is now with a detective
    >The two have a rough relationship
    >Hank and his daughter are distant, Janet is "dead"
    >Main antagonist is Hank's protege, an OC who makes his own suit and is angry that Hank didn't teach him the formula for Pym Particles. Hope is also working with them
    >Scott is picked by Hank for a heist where his friends help him out
    >Hope has a falling out with Hank's protege, she and Hank eventually reconcile
    >OC even dies due to a malfunctioning suit
Most of the story beats are there. The biggest differences are Hank's death, Scott getting back with his wife after the detective turns out to be a c**t, and the ending with Hope becoming the CEO and Scott and his team being the security team for Pym Tech.

Yeah, the final movie is not a complete overhaul and pretty much still uses Wright's script as a basis. I wonder what change made him quit, Hank not dying or the references to the broader MCU. The final version was made after Wright already left the production and that's the one that has more changes.

The latter, apparently Edgar Wright didn't want to insert that cold open flashback with Peggy and Howard.

I don't see why Marvel couldn't have inserted a post-credits scene behind his back.

Really? I thought it would be something more intrusive in the middle of the story like the Falcon fight. The opening at least works to show Hank Pym as a disgruntled scientist that doesn't trust anyone with his tech, especially a Stark.

Edgar Wright didn't want the movie to have overt MCU overlap, like the extended Falcon cameo. He wanted it to be like Captain America 1, a good standalone film throughout

Falcon was only added after Wright's departure.

that's what I mean. Marvel wanted more overlap in the Ant Man film, Wright leaves, there's then an extended cameo that exists to explain future Marvel stuff

It wasn't even a good scene, maybe if they actually included Cap even for just a minute I could understand why they'd want Wright to put it in

IMO the Falcon scene was cleary hamfisted but at least it was an enjoyable fight scene, and felt really comic booky, like how usually hero makes a cameo in the book of another hero and they either fight or help each other. The only other thing it really does is explain how Ant-Man ends up fighting for Team Cap in Civil War. On that topic, I think the collaboration was doomed to fail because even if Edgar Wright got to make his movie without compromise, the next movie would throw a wrench at whatever plan he would have for a sequel because it would affect the status quo he created at the end of his movie. For example, Peyton Reed found out way too late that Marvel was going to use Giant-Man for Civil War and that was something he wanted save for the sequel. I could see Wright getting fed up at Marvel if they pulled the same thing with him and wouldn't want to return for a sequel.

    >Pym was supposed to be a turbo homosexual who not only let his wife die, but also would have willingly lead Scott to death

So much for subversion of expectations. Those kind of directors really are one trick pony, too bad they didn't canned The Last Jedi also.

Was Wright's test footage ever used in the film? I think I remembered they recycled it in one scene.
