Now that the series has officially been released, what's your verdict?
Personally, I feel like it's a downgrade. Most of the jokes feel like they came out half-baked. I understand why they dropped Gandhi and Toot, but the rest of the cast don't mesh well. It feels as though the writers all know the fans want Gandhi, but they can't bring him back, so to compensate for the loss, they split Gandhi's personality across the cast, which ruins the others characters

The moment it was leaked that Gandhi was staying frozen, we should've taken a page out of the street-shitters' book and starved ourselves to death in front of their door in a hunger strike.
You're eating right now, aren't you?
The only one I feel has a character that stand out is Columbus
Confucius feels like a diet Gandhi
Harriet and the troony have interchangeable personalities
Abe can't stand on his own
Joan's character is butchered. She went from a goth chick to... I have no idea how to describe her current character
As for JFK.... Well, he's hard to frick up. He's a moronic playboy. His character is simple but effective
Thank God you’re not a creative or even a reviewer because your takes are awful
>Joan's character is butchered. She went from a goth chick to... I have no idea how to describe her current character
Tf are you talking about? Joan has always been like this and her being Goth was only surface level
Hell I'd argue that the new season has actually made her MORE Goth than ever before considering she's shown interest in actual Goth things like Seances and calling for Bloody Mary
She’s a little too peppy now in my opinion. She was never extremely cynical and they very rarely leaned into the goth aspect of her character in the original show but she still had a general blasé attitude, now she feels a lot more animated. Which isn’t a bad thing per se but I just have to see more of it
Are they actually making Frida a transman? Sure the Mexican community will enjoy that.
Doubt it and they wouldn't care if she was, Frida isn't nearly as loved in Mexico as she is in the U.S.
>troony
Frida Kahlo was a cis woman who just happened to have a mustache.
>cis woman
Just say woman anon.
The fact you think Frida Kahlo is trans means you're way too young to post here
I just finished episode two (I skipped one because I saw the leak and I'm assuming they didn't change much?) and I can't believe anons were saying this was good, if anything its a downgrade from the leak/episode 1. Harriet, Frida, Confucius, and Topher are just too much. We went from having 5 main characters in the original series to 8 main characters in the reboot, it just doesn't work and also why I think episode one was probably better, the new characters were relegated to bit parts while the original cast was in focus.
>The only one I feel has a character that stand out is Columbus
He's the most distinct but he doesn't really work either. The issue here is that the historical figures in the original series (even supporting characters like George Washington Carver and Van Gogh) were chosen because they were recognizable enough to the general population that you could either subvert the popular perception of them or play it for laughs. The new characters were chosen for diversity, which I'm not entirely against, but they're not recognizable enough and/or not being played with enough.
Like, Topher is just kind of evil. Why? What does that have to do with Columbus? It would've been more fitting to caricaturize, making him a character that always claims things as his own or to subvert by making him ab insufferably culturally conscious geek.
Garbage that Cinemaphile will obsess over anyways, like lower decks.
Is Toots not in it?
Nope! Dead as of episode 2. He had a clarinet accident
Is there a reason they wrote out the character?
I'm guessing because he was black and blind yet the show portrayed him as a moron. I'm only implying based from the show's direction
Indians didn't like how Clone High portrayed an icon of peace as a mentally ill brainlit, so they protested in front of MTV by doing a hunger strike. It got so bad, to the point where executives were locked inside due to the density of the protesters.
I understand where they were coming from, and I can't say I blame them for overreacting. The show was taking heavy jabs at Gandhi, both as a character and the real guy. But Gandhi was still fricking hilarious and my favorite character. Nu Clone High can't stand without him
>Indians didn't like how Clone High portrayed an icon of peace as a mentally ill brainlit, so they protested in front of MTV by doing a hunger strike.
Oh, so a really good reason for not bring him back
rare to see in these days of Troons & Basedjacks
well, whatever, didn't care much for the show, hope they have some short of success in these tiring times
>Continuing a show 20 years later
That alone doomed it to fail. If too much time goes by, a sequel ends up being far too removed from the original and you end up with the same characters trying to exist in two drastically different eras. The original Clone High wouldn't have existed in any capacity in 2023 so it was naive to expect a sequel would do the same. Besides, they removed the best character. Some things should just be appreciated and left alone instead of being milked for nostalgia.
Has there ever been a sequel that worked 10+ years after the first cancelation?
Nu animaniacs, nu tiny toon and nu clone high are a flop on arrival. But what about a sequel released several ago that's a continuation from a decade old show?
The only one that comes to my mind is Zim
It feels like every time it happens, the writers use it as an excuse to have the characters react to current events/issues. It's getting really old.
I miss Gandhi, but this is easily the funniest adult cartoon I've seen since Rick and Morty season 2, so I forgive Phil and Chris for cutting him.
>Zim
Fricking really? The movie completely botched the tone of the original series, and Jhonen admitted it was deliberate. Gaz actually cares about Dib, and Membrane isn't neglectful. They're a somewhat dysfunctional, but happy family now. Dib is supposed to be from a broken home, but Jhonen thinks that's too dark, but, like, that's what gives him his character. Fricking hell.
Beavis and Butthead has only gotten better with each reboot
>Has there ever been a sequel that worked 10+ years after the first cancelation?
Twin Peaks.
And I know the odds are stacked against it being good but I'd still kill for a MLAATR comeback.
Every scene felt off, the new writers are missing the plot. Small example, making the shadowy government figures diverse with all the colors of the rainbow. I'm not b***hing because of woke, I'm b***hing because it misses the point of them being nearly identical Glow in the Dark types. Not only are they not threatening, I don't think the new female writers even understand what they are parodying. Go ahead and extend this example to the entire genre/parody/genx period they don't seem to understand even exists.
Not only that, but I don't recall the Shdowy Goverment acting like a bunch of highschool teenagers, referring to their investment in the Abe/Joan/Cleo drama. They were ruthless, deadpan and obviously evil
Another small but telling change, their motivation changed from trying to take over the world, to saving the world cause orangemanbad. It's actually fascinating to think about how drastically the world view in that writers room changed in such a short span of time. There's no inherent fear or criticism of the government.
Nu Clone High joke about feminism: "And there used to only be one woman in the writers room, can you imagine? *Looks at camera in a cartoon*
Old Clone High Joke about feminism: "Can you imagine a woman playing basketball? Entire stadium starts rolling in laughter after cliche of star player being a hidden woman is revealed"
If you support feminism, one of these is not only funny, but proves the point trying to be made better.
>"Can you imagine a woman playing basketball? Entire stadium starts rolling in laughter after cliche of star player being a hidden woman is revealed"
What's the joke
This is your brain on double-digit IQ. Do you seriously need for me to explain it for you?
That despite the fact that the woman was cleaning the floor with the entire team, despite the fact that it was a progressive era, despite the fact they were parodying a movie trope so old it has great-grandkids at this point, everybody acted like they were smoking in a mens only bar in 1904.
Why did they dropped gandhi?
>Ghandi is out.
>Now Toots is out too apparently.
I can't even muster the enthusiasm to watch a single episode, and Clone High was one of my favorite shows. I knew a revival was a terrible idea.
>gandhi frozen
>literal glass ceiling
>getting cancelled
>christopher columbus is le bad
Yeah frick that. It's a shitshow. All reboots are bad. Especially since they were also the people who removed the "blackface" scene from Scrubs but kept the whiteface one. Frick them, frick modern Hollywood.
>christopher columbus is le bad
See if you wanted to make this point, at least make it funny by having him do the same nasty shit, instead of just ashamed
I'm glad none of you have enough discipline and willpower to become a writer
>discipline and willpower
That's a odd way of spelling nepotism and big nose
LOL
LMAO
I am a contractor writer for WotC, who worked on the Ravnica book, as well as a bunch of CofD stuff. Additionally, I supplement my income by writing. LOLOLOLOL you huge fricking homosexual.
come back when you work at something relevant
Be honest, how heavy are those goalposts? Sure you don't need a hand? You are a NEET after all.
>goalposts
were not debating anon, im just glad your hands only touch big baby toys.
Behold, the nu-media supporter
I get paid thousands of dollars for writing that kind of shit, so yeah. What do you get paid for, flippin' burgers? Or are you just mooching off your parents?
Your wiener don't work so good anymore because of all the hormones you inject into yourself, troony.
i think you didn't understand what i'm trying to say, let me try again.
im glad you have no influence.
Ahhh shieeeeet its a "I MAKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WITHOUT EVEN TRYING" anon!
My favorite type of schizoposter :^)
Tell those frickers to buff Warlocks and nerf Wizards. I'm fricking sick and tired of every edition kicking Warlocks into the pavement while Wizard continue on rising high and higher
Different department, but also, holy shit do they have 0 idea of what they're doing. Instead of collecting data from surveys on places like Roll20 and cons and maybe outside player groups, they instead use their in-house groups as testing. Like, the people who built the mechanics, and other orbiters. It's practically incest, which is why the design decisions are completely fricking moronic and the ONLY way stuff from the outside comes in is if there's a massive Internet outcry.
Is that why a lot of the classes have been untouched in their primitive state since release?
Monks have no utilities
Sorcerers have been underpowered since release
Warlocks keep getting shafted into oblivion
And to top it all off, the Wizard keeps getting more buffs and better version of other spellcasters abilties. On a later level, they gain more spell slots on short rests and get access to better versions of sorcery points
Why does the Warlock still only have 4 spell slots. No, he has 3 because rarely campaigns reach level 20. His level 20 ability is god awful. His level 1 spells are so bad that the players gaslit themselves into thinking Hex is the best spell. Out of all of their subclasses, only 4 of them are good. The latest Undead subclass has a really cool ability that synergized with his One Trick Pony gimmick then WotC nerfed because players were having fun
Pretty much, yeah. I don't think anybody really PLAYS monks in the playtesting department, and that they're a holdover from the old days, like the paladin. And I agree with you. But unfortunately, I was just a fluff writer. Alas.
Resource extraction is done externally. All manufacturing and trading source becomes domestic, which creates a LOT of new jobs because the "race to the bottom" is a non-factor now, which is the big appeal of modern globalist free-trade capitalism. Also you won't have immigrants coming in because imperialism.
Do you know what was the reason they revived Rangers? Was it because the fans kept b***hing of how useless the class was or was there something else BTS?
No idea. The ranger was always another one of those old sacred cow classes. And I mean let's be honest, the ranger is barely functional as it is. Like I said, I wasn't part of that. I did about 80% fluff and about 20% mechanics.
Doesn't matter anyways. DnD is going to shit, now that they're removing half-races and going woke
Baulder's Gate 3 is going to be a flop
MTG is pissing on the mouth of its fans and die hard supporters
And I dropped the game years ago
>won't have immigrants coming in because imperialism
laughs in the British empire
Yeah and guess when they started coming in? AFTER the British empire embraced free trade and dropped mercantilism. Before that they were barely considered people. And of course in massive droves right now.
REAL imperialism has never been tried
It's pretty sweet for the Empire until the israelites get their hooks in.
>which creates a LOT of new jobs because the "race to the bottom" is a non-factor now,
Yippie, more underpaid workers for the upper class to take advantage of!
I made your mom choke on my wiener last night.
Sure you do kid, we all believe your larp, just don't throw a tantrum.
his REEing is pretty par the course for writers, as is his deflecting that he wasn't an issue at any point. or are you saying WotC's standards haven't been in the toilet for over a decade now and his claim is impossible?
>Create bland stories filled with own personal biases and opinions exclusively covering current events
Wow writers are so talented and creative
Your picture has nothing to do with what you're complaining about. Your picture is about a capitalist dystopia that would've come to pass under both the left and the right because the US was always headed there. As long as you keep believing that "if we kill all wokes this won't happen" you'll be playing right into ~~*their*~~ hands like a moron.
It did its job to draw attention to my post. And you are correct, I don't think we need to wipe out all the wokes, we need to wipe out everybody who is pro-globalism, anti-imperialist, and anti-mercantilist.
>we need to wipe out everybody who is pro-globalism, anti-imperialist, and anti-mercantilist.
None of this will prevent a dystopia where you're being taken advantage of and forced to work increasing hours all while being distracted and comforted by various indulgences so that you don't rebel in fears of losing the status quo.
What? Yes getting rid of those things would change that future. A anti globalist pro native world would compete against each other and in at least some scenarios avoid that.
>he doesn't know what mercantilism is
>he doesn't see how imperialism will benefit the little people
How?
How what? Mercantilism is "nationalism for the domestic market" where the nation will prioritize its own economy at the expense of others, and does everything as domestic as possible, while crippling the domestic production of other countries. So under mercantilism, the USA would invade Saudi Arabia, put in a bunch of white people in charge and working the oil fields, and then sell that oil to others, including crippling the oil production of other countries.
So USA becomes a monopoly which relies on extensive labor and crippling other countries. How does this benefit the little people/prevent a capitalist dystopia?
>>he doesn't see how imperialism will benefit the little people
That never happened
>pro-globalism, anti-imperialist
How can you be anti and pro of the same thing?
XXL Pod and Outdoor experience
I am in the industry trust me bro
Why was Gandhi left out again? Because it's offensive to... someone??
Read the thread.
Imagine just how much funnier it would be if they were actually willing to make offensive jokes about historical figures with how sensitive everybody is these days. Even stupid throwaway shit like tell Tubman she has a nice caboose.
I liked the Hitler subplot somebody wrote in the last thread.
'RE
You meant to type You're but you used YOUR
It's not a great sign for this show that there are two discussions about Globalism and Magic the Gathering and nothing about the reboot.
The other thread is fine, I don't know what happened to this one
They literally fridged Ghandi and killed Toots. That's all most people need or care to know about the state of the reboot.
If the show isn't spitting in the face of its fans, it's boring. The worst thing you can be is boring and mediocre
I didn't grow up on Clone High, only watched it 3? 4? years ago. I liked it a lot and I can say that if I was a fan in the early 2000s, writing letters to MTV for a revival and keeping the discussion of the show alive, I'd be fricking pissed. But since I'm not, I'm mostly bored. The jokes don't feel any different that your Family Guy clone or South Park wannabe
Maybe the show shouldn't be:
A) woke
B) garbage
C) a reboot
and then there would be something of value to talk about.
>woke
It's not, moron.
>Toot
Who?
Joan's foster dad, well, former foster dad
Is there a reason the writing is so different? did they not keep ANYBODY from the old team?
Thing is, it's the same writers Lord, Miller and Lawrence, but they might as well be some strangers because the show has no identity of the original show
I had assumed the jokes about now having more women in the writing room were literal.
The first episode was written by Lord, Miller and one of the OG writers. The second episode was written by a literally who.
>The second episode was better than the first
Grim.
Didn't watch it. Won't watch it.
dump
The Bloody Mary gag was funny
gary and his demons did it better
What happened with Gary? Did the show end with season 2 or was it canceled?
nothing has been announced
A couple of the jokes made me laugh, but I do agree that it hasn't matched the quality of the first season yet. The animation seems much more slow to me. It's not nearly as snappy as it was in the old season and it's making the timing of the jokes worse. At the very least, I still love Abe, JFK and Joan. Even after all these years they do seem to be the same characters. The only time someone acted wildly OOC to me was Abe's freakout on notTiktok. I'm cautiously optimistic as I did like episode two more than episode one and hopefully the future episodes will carry the momentum forward.
On a side note, I'm so fricking happy they didn't drop the entire season in one batch. I hope we can get some actual discussion going.
Any controversy over Cleo not being black yet?
Okay Cinemaphile give me your best ideas
Reboot season 2 in the spirit of S1, but without Gandhi
i would rather have the holocaust happen every 4 years like the olympics than have to watch another episode of this stupid garbage
voices sound terrible and aged, no based gandhi, cleo voice actor is different, the cringe zoomer millenial inclusivity stuff is so overdone in modern media, joan is missing her pointed head. it's even worse than i could imagine.
Episode 2 isn't working on Max!
Max is fricking terrible. The continue watching list is all fricked, if I want to watch Sopranos one day I have to write down where I was since Max goes right back to the pilot episode.
Too busy making their shitty "feel good" woke bs ads I guess. 🙂
No ghandi no watchy
It would never be as good as the original but it made laugh many times, and thats good enough for me.
Joan actually got the worse character assassination out of everyone. Joan doesn't have any fo the dryness or bite she had in the original. This is not the same Joan that tazed Gandhi and kicked JFK in episode one.
Cleo grtting shafted so far is disappointing. I think need to give her something new to do other than love triangle stuff.
Harriet still doesn't have a personality yet. It's very noticeable because episode one of the original did such a good job of introducing the cast.
Otherwise, I actually like the new cast. Topher and Confucius are the strongest new characters easily. I think they did a good job at making Confucius different enough from Gandhi.
Season 1 is still better, But season 2 is still a good comedy so far.
Gandhi is the literal soul of the show. Give me a break.
