      >not liking gays and not taking women seriously is spiritually equivalent to a totalitarian state that continuously rewrites history, cracks down on suspected thought-crime, tortures dissidents, engages in endless war just as a means of controlling the slave class, and which can be summed up with the imagery of a boot stomping upon the face of humanity forever.

Most if not all great men were unlikeable. I don't get how homosexuals today fall over themselves over these past characters as if they had sunshine personalities. It's the height of human hypocrisy to appreciate them after they are dead.

It's why they always say to never meet your heros. People put them on pedestals and then forget that they have all the same flaws anyone else does. The sands of time and distance smooth out those rough edges and people get a very different impression of them.

For my whole life, Orwell was the guy everyone of opposing ideologies universally respected, and used to prop up their own ideologies.

Normalfags just have the most childish expectations about people who are able to make original insights about human societies and it never occurs to them that such people would not feel comfortable in a world which reveals itself to be disappointing everytime they step outside. I mean the guy just called the world and the people you live with shitty, why would you think he likes any of you? Then when they realize this, they hate the guy instead of admiting that they had stupidly juvenile expectations.

He new they were lying but understood why. He didn't like it. I don't think anybody who has read 1984 thinks that he wasn't talking about all governments especially communist ones.

      I can't believe it's England too.
When you think of civilization, you think of... well... Rome, but when you think of modern society, you think of England. Conducting business in the way we do, the way we dress, the ways we behave and expect to be treated.
Politicians need to act like there is a loaded pistol pressed against their temple and the person holding the gun is angry.

1984 is a very insightful study on authoritarianism but kind of a shitty novel. It has one of those "the bad guys were secretly controlling everything the protagonist did from the start" twists that, however thematically appropriate, is just lame and unsatisfying. I would still recommend reading it, but I was getting into it as a work of fiction for the first half and ended up really disappointed.

Yes absolutely the depiction of a totalitarian regime at work is great. The story is just weak and only there to provide a framework for the commentary.
