Feminism in Jurassic Park

I forgot how overtly feminist Jurassic Park was until I rewatched it. Why did the writers do this? What did it add to the story?

    Movies became pozzed after 1989.

There are actually Griffith movies that feel pozzed. Broken Blossoms from 1919 for example.

This is how it was in the 80's/90's. A random little out of place aside to cater to women/feminists and then resume the show.

it wasn't as annoying because you could in most cases - including this one - interpret it as the woman being a bit whiny to a man

Do zoomers actually think feminism was invented in 2016 as well as everything else in their lives?

She was unironically more physically capable than him because he was a frail old man on a cane.

It added nothing, and in the legacy it added nothing

    nobody quotes this scene

when anybody is remembering the characters, they can list off hammond, malcolm, grant, the lawyer guy who gets eaten on the toilet, nedry, and samuel jackson, the aussie who goes "clever girl" but rarely ellie

also in the book the 2 kids were an older brother and a younger sister, and the older brother was into computers. it was cringe even for audiences back then, but overall an excellent film that deserves its place in a hall of fame for many reasons, not for the 'glass shattering' reasons journalists would cite today, though

    >Spielberg

That's why. He's been shoving strong independent female nonsense into his movies since the first Indiana Jones at least. It's just that nobody paid any notice because Marion was hot and still swooned over Indy in between scenes of her punching out Nazi soldiers, drinking like a sailor, swearing, and mouthing off to everyone (all the same kind of traits seen in the masculine feminist heroines we see being pushed in trash nowadays)

Im here just to complain 4plebs will no longer allow me to look at deleted webms... Sad.... I just finished watching this movie, weird how that happens, huh? She was fine, the difference between then and now was there was no real agenda behind it, she just happened to be a strong female, and much different from the character in the book.

There was an agenda behind it, you just didn't know because they didn't tweet and write clickbait articles saying it.

you're ignorant. the 90's is when the subtle forms of "political correctness" portrayed in media for DECADES prior became overt.

I never thought about that. Good point. On the other hand maybe it was to drive up the stakes, increased risk to the others, once he's killed. I need to read the book again I loved it. The technical stuff was fascinating I was amazed Chrichton could do that.

it's a good scene, not because it's a girlpower scene but because it inadvertently sets up The lost world. Hammond doesn't understand the situation at all, despite ellie telling him during the ice cream scene. he is in denial about the death of arnold, he is fundamentally incapable of absorbing the truth of the loss of control. he is saying "I should go because I am a man." and this is situation is no big deal anyway. it's just a short stroll down a path," while muldoon and ellie are aware that the situation is actually incredibly dangerous and it is putting their lives at risk, but that it has to be done. this comes back in lost world when despite hammonds final utter loss of control when he is ousted from the board he STILL clings to the illusion of control and safety when he lets sarah go to the island without having everything ready and acting like she is just going to a hotel to malcom (who again is fully aware of the absence of control)

She definitely bit off more than she could chew. Toxic feminine arrogance. She nearly got her head chomped off, thanks to feminism.
