I think there's a few kinos missing from this list.
Thats why i said 'ect' midwit
Easy there, Sally. Don't start squirting blood from your massive pussy now.
Hit a nerve did i midwit
This. Beau Travail is the best film from that year
Sleepy Hollow comes to mind.
Run Lola Run
Was a good time to work at a theater. Saw all these free before anyone else.
the greatest movie of all time came out in 2008 though
we all love RDJ
The world ended in 2000 so no wonder
How could this be?
Because HE IS the kwisatz haderach!
Okay the bottom half is just garbage. But the top half makes it incredible
I've been sayiby this for years. Cinema peaked in 99. 98 was also an amazing year
98 was insane too
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=1998-01-01,1998-12-31
We didnt realise how good we had it..........
Yes we did. We just didn't anticipate how hard things were going to fall.
Holy kino overload
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&release_date=1999-01-01,1999-12-31
We havn't had this many kinos in the last 10 years, forget in 1 single year
>>The Blair Witch Project
lol lmao even
>Zoomer filtered by kino
Nothing new
THE INSIDER (Mann)
THE WIND WILL CARRY US (Kiarostami)
THE MISSION (Johhnie To)
PERSIAN SERIES (Brakhage)
The Phantom Menace too.
AHHHHHHHHHHH
1939 still tops it for me but yeah it's weird how years ending in 9 generally have a solid run of good to great films
Will forever be an unmatched year.
yep
1994 had a bunch too.
And 1989.
The last almost alright year for movies was what, 2014?
1994 was stacked
>pulp fiction
>shawshank
>forrest gump
>lion king
>chungking express
>speed
>natural born killers
>ed wood
>legend of drunken master
>the professional
>dumb and dumber
>true lies
Saw Speed and True Lies double feature at drive-in.
Are these all objectively good, or is it all just nostalgia? If you showed them to zoomers, would they enjoy them more than current movies?
What does the opinions of zoomers have to do with something being genuinely good?
Because they'd be seeing them fresh without the lens of nostalgia
They have a much worse lens: "problematicism."
Probably the best year for indie movies ever
Clerks is missing. You had one job, anon.
94 is good, kinnoisseurs choose to ignore it because it has Shawshank Redemption which is absolutely not the best movie ever made
yeah
2008 mogs
>The Dark Knight
>Iron Man
>Step Brothers
>Tropic Thunder
>Pineapple Express
>Hanwiener
>There Will Be Blood

No
Yes
homie please. you're even putting BWP up against Cloverfield lmao
We truly must take efforts to disabuse zoomers of their awful, ungainly preference for slop.
Almost none of those are zoomer movies.
embarrassing
How do we go back?
We can't
aint gonna happen
Literally before zoomies were even alive
It's 1972 that I want to experience as an American teenager/young adult:
>The Godfather
>Fischer vs. Spassky
>Apollo 17 on TV
And lots of other stuff. Year was bananas.
Basically every year has a strong top 20. Literally every single year has a strong top 10. So I don't really think that's the way to compare. So top 50? 100? With the strength of a top 20 considered of course but I still think all that stuff is just gonna cancel itself out.
>Basically every year has a strong top 20.
Yeah the last 10 years have been nothing but pure kino lmao
Well it doesn't have to be pure kino to have an excellent top 10 and a strong top 20. That's what I'm saying. So starting 10 years ago with 2014
Interstellar
Lego Movie
Birdman
John Wick
Lost River
Pompeii
It Follows
Noah
Wild
Big Eyes
Big Hero 6
The Voices
Edge of Tomorrow
The Imitation Game
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ok so 2014 is surprisingly weak and a top 20 or even top 10 would be a good way to just knock it out. But that's only gonna work with maybe 20% of the years. Everything else it's gonna be at least a 50 way tie with top 10s
50 is too high of a number. That's almost half of the years if you start counting in the 20s which is the first real full decade of feature length films. There's maybe 20 years that can legitimately be debated as part of the top 10 regardless of the method chosen. And 1999 is the lstest year that would be on that list.
I'm not sure I'm following your point at all or even understanding what you're saying.
I'm saying that 100 of the years of the last 120+ years is basically gonna be a tie if we are comparing all these years to each other according to each year's top 10 movies. Definitely 50 years. There's no way it's anything less than a tie between 50 of those years. But it's apparently a good way to knock them out though. So I guess we can go ahead and knock out 2014 for example. Sorry Lego Movie
Except I understand that you're saying no year after 1999 can compete with 1999. And the top 50 of each of these 2 years is too many movies to compare with each other? No way in hell. It has to be top 100 minimum. Just my prediction. Top 50 is fine with me I just very seriously doubt that. Top 100 has to be possible though. There's no way ties are unavoidable with 100
America peak in the 90s, the matrix was right
>names 4 good movies in a list of slop
sure thing OP
Name the 4 good movies, i'll wait
R.E.M Sucks and thats that
You like some shit movies
Post your top 10, you wont because you're a fricking moron
Well homosexual? Its been 10 minutes
the snags along the creative road that would mean they wouldn't be made today
Club
obvious
>>The Matrix
fuelling chud conspiracy theories, white male saviour
Beauty
problematic pedo stuff (might be allowed), white suburban life is racist
>>The Green Mile
fine but ramp up the anti racist messaging
>>Eyes Wide Shut
fuelling chud conspiracy theories
>>Toy Story 2
probably fine but make someone black
>>The Sixth Sense
probably fine but raceswap the kid
John Malkovich
make it being John Boyega
>>The Talented Mr. Ripley
i can't be bothered with this any more but you get my point
>>Man On The Moon
Space
Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
>>The Iron Giant
Pie
>>The Blair Witch Project
Quest
>> The Mummy
What do all these have in common? No bipoc representation.
>1999 was 25 years ago
All shit.
it was the height of our civilization. the absolute peak.
I haven't seen 1976 posted, so I'll go ahead and add it. 1999 was the last great year and all the 2000s were mediocre. But I agree with the other anons, 1939 was the greatest.
I prefer the 60's for films, they have more artistic merit.
70's are also excellent.
80's were a hit or a miss
I watched few films from 50's and backwards so cant say for sure
90's were a step up from 80's but a step down from 70's
00's are the last good decade for films
2010 and above you will be lucky to get a high tier film every 3 years
2020's seem even worse
hollywood is dying and foreign cinema is exclusively being carried by the east as of now.
And I mean like 1999 vs 2000 for example. That has to be done with their top 100s
American Beauty 1999
American Pie 1999
Anywhere but Here 1999
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me 1999
Beyond the Mat 1999
Big Daddy 1999
Dogma 1999
Entrapment 1999
Fantasia 2000 1999
Fight Club 1999
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai 1999
Idle Hands 1999
Man on the Moon 1999
Mystery Men 1999
Office Space 1999
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut 1999
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999
The Blair Witch Project 1999
The Matrix 1999
The Sixth Sense 1999
Toy Story 2 1999
This sort of makes me sad. It really was a peak. I think 9/11 sort of made the downturn worse because it took years after that for movies to take risks and stop playing it safe.
