Yeah, a couple dialogue choices change depending on your gender. Notably, there's a subplot about a girl in a lesbian relationship (not with you, it's two npcs) that you only see if you play fem.
You discover that you are in a space station that's been attacked by shape shifting aliens
You escape the station but sike, you were an alien all along who was going through a simulation on earth because the aliens won and humans are desperate to understand the aliens so everything you did was just a test
you could choose to kill the rest of humanity or work alongside them
What happened is far less interesting than the premise it's built on. If there's supposed to be a massive probability that there's aliens out there then why do we have no sign or evidence? They're either so paranoid they don't want to be found, or something else out there ate them all.
There's also the exploration of why would aliens or extra dimensional entities be inherently hostile towards us? Resources are everywhere across space, organic slaves are inferior to any other kind. The only unique thing we have is sentience/consciousness.
when people praise the soundtrack i've no idea why they always link the generic early 00s trance track and not the main menu theme, male vocals version of semi-sacred geometry, or the song that plays the first time you enter GUTS
It's in my top 5 for sure, maybe even top 3. I hate how you can never have a discussion on Cinemaphile because everyone calls it shit. Prey is much better than dishonored or bioshock for me.
It's in my top 5 for sure, maybe even top 3. I hate how you can never have a discussion on Cinemaphile because everyone calls it shit. Prey is much better than dishonored or bioshock for me.
Never been on Cinemaphile but I'm guessing people were pissed about the "twist" ending?
The story was pretty barebones in the first place so I didn't mind. The gameplay was good.
Yeah, one of the biggest complaints is story yet the same people suck Kojima's dick for metal gear solid. It's a video game, story is literally the least important part. Look at how popular games like call of duty are. I don't think activision even puts campaigns in those anymore.
Story is important when it is the driving motivation for the character to do what they are doing. I remember feeling drained by the end of it and just wanting it to end but found it to have the best level design of any game thats come out. Thats what makes Prey good, how you can get around certain things in so many ways without the game really making it seem like any one was more intended than the other
The character doesn't need motivation, only the player. Unlocking new areas, weapons, and equipment is more than enough to keep people interested if it's done well.
Wrong, moron. There's many games with stories far better than movies especially because it's a game. It can take it's time, draw it it, unlike trying to shove it all into two hours. And many evoke far more emotion as it's you experiencing it and not just watching someone else. This 'it's a video game so therefore good for nothing but pressing the a button to jump!' attitude is for imbeciles.
Prey was great, the Typhon aliens were really cool enemies and the story was fine to move things along. The best part as many anons said was the gameplay >everything about the gloo gun >floating around in zero g, recoil pushes you around >the glass displays with 3d that you can shatter >shooting darts to activate touch screens >stacking props and getting their materials using recycler grenades >copying the typhon powers like the mimic, and using this to find secrets
You could do a lot of these in movie form but most of the fun was discovering these things and a use for them or just experiencing them in an interactive form
The game is way better at the beginning, being weak as frick and searching for duplicate props add some survival horror vibe. Sad that arkane has gone to shit with deathloop and redfall, they nailed the inmersive sim and we dont get a lot of those since bioshock turned itself into a generic shooter with awful writing and somehow everyone loved it.
Deathloop was cool but I understand why people didn't like the repeated missions and invasions. I hoped they would explore those concepts more but they didn't.
Haven't played Redfall
i actually thought it was mid.
game would be a lot better if the enemies were not goo monsters. shooting and smacking goo isnt satisfying.
Typhon were more like animated shadows, way better than some gay insect or generic monster we could've gotten
It came out in that 360/PS3 era where they were releasing a lot of flawed but interesting shooters. FEAR, Timeshift, Singularity, Fracture, Republic Commando, Mace Griffin, Dark Void, Dark Sector, The Darkness. Lot of dark for some reason. I thought Prey was one of the better ones of that bunch, but I have some nostalgia for all of them. Anyway, X-Files can hit those same Native/Alien notes from time to time but I'm not sure about movies.
that was a completely different company, this game was originally called Typhon, they renamed it Prey because the other game was never being made but they wanted to keep the name registered
The fan backlash about the name was extremely moronic
Recommend:
Alien
Pandorum (closest thing you will get in terms of story and ending)
Life
Starship troopers
Game was at its peak at the beginning and end where you were fully maxed out with your gear. Game design was all over the place and wasn't focused like dishonored. That was why the game flopped badly. Hope we get a sequel eventually.
This game fricking sucked, the one trailer of the original concept BTFO the 15 hours i spent on this repetitive trash
, i remember watching this video or another one like it years ago, seeing him take a civilian as a bullet shield was so unbelievably hype. And yet absolute garbage games like fallen order and mass effect are the mainstream goyslop gamers are being fed nowadays,
I haven't played either of these, even though I considered the original back when it came out. Is the new one a reboot or some entirely different thing?
The new one (Arkane) only has a vaguely similar premise but otherwise it's a reboot if not straight up a totally different thing with the brand name slapped on it.
New one is basically System Shock 3 with the Prey name attatched so Bethesda doesn't lose the name.
Both are unrelated, but both are fantastic, and anyone who seethes at the new one because it's not muh Prey 2 is moronic.
Prey 2017 should have been called NeuroShock or something like that. It's essentially a stand alone game that is like System Shock or Deus Ex but fighting psychic aliens in a space station instead of an evil AI.
I think Bethesda forced them to call it Prey to keep the trademark.
This backfired since fans of the first Prey complained it had nothing in common.
>russia known to arrest people on bullshit for human test subjects >heavily implied he didn't actually commit the murders he was arrested for >he's le bad because... he talks funny and kills the people who are experimenting on him!
luka did nothing wrong, he only murdered people in the space station out of survival and attempted revenge on the people who wronged him. if you were in that situation would you just lie down and die like a dog, the cook deserved it for being yu's servant
Pandorum maybe
What happens in it?
A lot of nothing and then the 'I was le monster all along' trope.
guy trapped on a space station filled with shape-shifting aliens with no memory of how he got there.
>guy
femorgan is canon
gay detected.
Then why is the male the default choice? Femplayers are gays
does it have any effect on the game at all?
Yeah, a couple dialogue choices change depending on your gender. Notably, there's a subplot about a girl in a lesbian relationship (not with you, it's two npcs) that you only see if you play fem.
Philip K. Dick books would be right up your alley. I bet you'd like Ubik.
An examination of empathy while you explore an abandoned space-station.
You discover that you are in a space station that's been attacked by shape shifting aliens
You escape the station but sike, you were an alien all along who was going through a simulation on earth because the aliens won and humans are desperate to understand the aliens so everything you did was just a test
you could choose to kill the rest of humanity or work alongside them
Ends on a cliffhanger
i platinumed this game so had to have played it through at least twice and forgot all about this ending
What happened is far less interesting than the premise it's built on. If there's supposed to be a massive probability that there's aliens out there then why do we have no sign or evidence? They're either so paranoid they don't want to be found, or something else out there ate them all.

It's stated in game the typhon eat consciousness
Pretty much every space horror movie ever.
Solaris. Haven't seen that or played the game so I could be wrong
The 2006 one was better.
contrarian or mentally ill.
nvm, same thing.
Why would you want a film like this? Prey's strength is in its gameplay and not its story.
there is one space horror movie with a black goo monster, I forgot what it's called. I think ryan reynolds is in it. youre welcome
seconding this
its kinda shit, the astronauts are moronic
everyone in horror movies is a moron
it's one thing to act dumb in a fricked up situation with adrenaline and panic
but those astronauts were just super annoyingly incompetent
Thats because all horror movies are about dumb teenagers. not astronauts who are supposed to be smart as frick.
good game. in hindsight it's a bit gimmicky but the whole thing is very engaging and fun, works really well
What a disaster of a game. Arkane really only had Dishonored and everything else has been a straight downgrade.
but Prey is Arkane's only good game?
Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic exist, so no.
Prey 2017 was dogshit. The only good part of it was Mick Gordon's soundtrack
when people praise the soundtrack i've no idea why they always link the generic early 00s trance track and not the main menu theme, male vocals version of semi-sacred geometry, or the song that plays the first time you enter GUTS
europa report
barely anyone knows about it. it's a found footage film based in space. it's a fun watch but slow burn
OP, you dunce, you're asking us to spoil movies by merely recommending them to you.
Shutter Island
nah make it like the good one from 2006
kek, this really is a "either you love it or hate it" kind of game.
It's in my top 5 for sure, maybe even top 3. I hate how you can never have a discussion on Cinemaphile because everyone calls it shit. Prey is much better than dishonored or bioshock for me.
I beat Prey but never bother beating Bioshock so I guess I preferred Prey.
Maybe not better than Bioshock but yes it hits the same nerve. I really hope to see a part 2 one day.
Cinemaphile is really missing out on this game.
Never been on Cinemaphile but I'm guessing people were pissed about the "twist" ending?

These are the people that you share a film board with
You havent seen many (bad) movies, and you definitely havent played many (good) video games
You're just simply ignorant from lack of exposure
i actually thought it was mid.
game would be a lot better if the enemies were not goo monsters. shooting and smacking goo isnt satisfying.
Films that make their own plot irrelevant at the end?
Didn't the art director made an episode of Love, Death and Robots? Or at least the guy who did the art for Dishonored. It was pretty slick.
*make

Films like this, please. Not even joking, native american witchery and extra terrestrials are a goddamn kino combination.
and the 2006 version was superior to Arkane's bullshit
You are based. I thought I was the only one that played this.
It came out in that 360/PS3 era where they were releasing a lot of flawed but interesting shooters. >the darkness
Frick man that game was great, wouldn't be a bad movie idea either. Never played the sequel.
>flawed but interesting shooters
>FEAR, Republic Commando, Dark Sector, The Darkness
>The Darkness
Thank you for reminding me of this kino anon. Will replay in your honor.
Check out Escape From Butcher Bay from the same dev.
That's been on the backlog too
Yeah, I'm also mentioning it because there's no PC version of the 1st Darkness.
alien 4 HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES DONNIE
Best I can do is Savaged.
Real and true.
correct
>and the 2006 version was superior to Arkane's bullshit
unrelated, it was called Prey to keep the name registered
Pandorum
THAT GAME BAD CUZ XBOX 360 SHOVELWARE HAS SAME GENERIC NAME
>XBOX 360 SHOVELWARE
Teaching people like you to read and write is the uttermost waste of effort.
There are 0 good 7th gen videos games, zoomerBlack person
The 7th gen was kino, gramps. You'll never get the zillennial childhood experience.
Super Mario Galaxy?
Eat Prey Love
I like both Preys
frick off vermin
Mooncrash I mean Moonfall
Not Moontrap?
maybe it was just Moon
Moon comes to mind when I think of that game.
This game fricking sucked, the one trailer of the original concept BTFO the 15 hours i spent on this repetitive trash

The aliens in this game are a copy of the ones in Edge of Tomorrow.
Remember what they took from you.
This is what i was talking about

I'm not losing sleep over it. That looked Prey in name only also.

The only thing I can think of story wise is maybe district 9?
