Genndy is an actual artist. All the people in the industry should, instead of whining, have learned how to draw properly and they wouldn't have had their shows disposed of unceremoniously. They can be upset for their own shows, the general public can't. They failed to entertain them and give them things they love.
When real artists take back the art form again like in the 90s that will be a massive Improvement
It's a shitty thing for them do of course, but it's still funny when creators act shocked and appalled that the corporate behemoth who took interest in their mediocre personal project after dozens of others didn't, would write it off so casually. And on TBS? You're lucky it aired at all, much less had three seasons produced.
Like, Magiswords and OK KO/Lakewood get pitched for years and years? And don't get me started on Dana T and her terrible ideas.
Kyle has hundreds of ideas with little creativity so it's funny for Magiswords to be treated like the rest of them

I don’t dick ride companies I just think the creator sucks wiener
You can hate the creator and still be pissed that companies are just doing this. It's not going to stop at this show you don't like, it will eventually happen to you.
It will probably take a show anons here actually like for them to see.
And people not caring about it until it affects them is precisely why they get away with this shit

By making it so that piracy is the only way to view something, you legitimize piracy.
Being a whiny tumblerite outrage gay is just showing how weak your position is.
I don't support it. This is why I pirate everything, and occasionally buy physical copis if possible. Even Final Space seasons 1 and 2 I have saved on hardware, kept in a safe place. I never trusted these streaming services, I thought they were normalgay cancer when they started popping out more and looks like I was right.
>Even Final Space seasons 1 and 2 I have saved on hardware, kept in a safe place.
It's funny how you think it's worth keeping safe, much less keeping it at all. I bet you love shit like SU and She-ra. Watch better cartoons.
I'm a collector. I keep lot of stuff, even stuff I don't like. One could call me a hoarder, but I'll laugh at their faces when I have that one episode of some obscure show once it becomes lost media.
People coomed themselves over Disney & Fox's unholy merger because "MUH CROSSOVERS", wouldn't be surprising if the same blindness induced by those personal desires stretches here too.
Robotomy, Megas XLR, and SBT were also canned early and written as a tax off.
And those had a better budget and more effort put into them than Final Space.
No passionate creator will ever work with HBO/Discovery ever again. The company has already lost more than they tried to gain and they’re still losing more
Crazy to think such a big company will die, all because a dementia ridden half deaf old fart decided to shoot himself in the foot
Yep. Personally I plan to eventually get into animation in life since I’m in the perfect place to start working on live action movies and TV in a couple years, and I have some connections.
But if I do, I’ll either be cautious or work with someone smaller.
Or who knows, maybe the corporations will start picking up once the money starts dropping. I give it somewhere between 2-10 years before they realize money is bleeding out and start prioritizing passion again.
Society runs in cycles, and the best thing any creator can do is predict said cycles. From what I’ve seen animation tends to switch between rebellious passion and trash every 5-10 years with some outliers. I just need to hop on near the front end of the rebellious passion cycle and make something that can finish before the five years are up. Then I switch back to live action and wait for the cycle to refresh
Geez some real whiners are coming to the thread who aren't brave enough to admit that they work in the industry.
He wasn't a passionate creator, passionate creators don't make these shows. Passionate creators are people like Maxwell Atoms who keep going even when they face a lot of hardship largely created by people like you.
>pretty much all the cartoons I liked already got canned
then why the hell are you spending time on threads about modern animation if you don't give a shit about any of it? It's like spending time on Cinemaphile despite thinking all modern games are trash
[...] >I'm not making a cartoon so I don't care
Fricking brainlet
I participate in animation communities one, to make animation better for kids and other people who watch them. Too, to make the animation field in America and other places more hospitable to people like me or Maxwell Atoms. Three, to gain Vengeance against people who treated me very poorly starting when I was a teenager at 15 years old because I criticized modern animation. I enjoy burying the shows they have made in the 17 years since then.
Guy… I’m gonna make a show in the future. I’m like water, glowing freely because I’m the dude
But you Guy? You’re like a geometrical storm. Snowflakes moving in boxes across fractal shaped clouds
Please Guy. Get into animation my man. I wanna see the inside of your brain
Yeah, doing a cliffhanger on its third season with no advance renewal was a huge mistake.
The show was also very expensive by adult swim standards at 900k an episode. In comparison, the entire first season of Smiling Friends was said to about the same as a single episode of Family Guy which would be around 2-3 mil.
FG and its ilk are expensive because of celebrity voice actors and any licensed content like music used in the show. This shit eats up the lion's share of every episode's budget.
I feel bad for him. No one deserves to have their had work erased forever. That being said, Frick you Olan for ending your show on a cliffhanger. Did you not have the slightest inkling that MAYBE your show might not get more than 3 seasons. The arrogance that you assumed you'd get 4 seasons on your absolutely underwhelming show.
I made a better space show but I'm not sharing it here. He made a space opera with a fricking moron as the lead. you can't say its better after x episodes you have to come out the gate swinging. He needs to take the L his show was on tbs and adult swim and the show still wasn't moving merch or viewership high enough for renewal. I'm slight being a dick but the main character being a moron is completely banal. And it's set in space everything is trying to kill you all the time.
It's an animatic pilot and it's new. Posting your work here is weird. Some industry higher ups have a real vendetta against others for posting on Cinemaphile. I enjoy the anonymity and unfilteredness.
This show fricking sucked ass, but this erasing of shows for a tax write-off maneuver is really shitty.
I really really REALLY dislike Final Space but it doesn't matter. Erasing a piece of media from ever being able to exist ever again is a super dangerous practice and we need to figure out how to put a stop to it.
Is your problem that these shows aren't on the specific streaming services owned by the producers? They are all still available for streaming and download.
>let me beg for a flash mob to get more work after I ended on a cliffhanger to try and blackmail another season >here, let me piss off the entire managing arm of the industry, surely that will help my cause
Sorry, bro, your show just wasn't good enough for me to give a shit.
>>Frick Final Space. I'm happy it got cancelled.
Okay, now take that sentiment, and apply it to 99.999% of the rest of the American animation industry.
Now you know why people either don't care or are happy about these shows being fricked over.
being cancelled != being eternally vaulted. I can be happy a show was cancelled while still being pissed that nobody can ever have the hope to see it ever again.
Why? We constantly look back at old shows to learn about mistakes and successes.
Anons b***h about how Gravity Falls and Star Vs ended, but we can look back on them as cautionary tales. If they get perma-vaulted, eventually everyone forgets, nobody learns anything, and the same mistakes are made.
When it comes to creative ventures and entertainment, nobody should decide who has access to what in the future. If people don't like it they don't have to watch. How are you comfortable with a potato sack of a finance bro like Zaslav making that decision for you?
He doesn't decide that, though. He just decides what can and can't be on WB's streaming site, because the internet has made copyright impossible to fully enforce. Yes, it could be even easier and more widespread if copyright monopolies were abolished in america, but that's besides the point. There will always be foreigners in countries without the same IP laws who will run competing streaming sites that keep these shows up, and that's *just* streaming.
>but we can look back on them as cautionary tales
lol how's that been working out? every show still has a shit ending, if it isn't cancelled before the story ends, of course.
probably more accurate for him to say that it can't be continued, rather than saying its being wiped entirely from existence and nobody will ever be able to see it ever again.
No, that's more accurate. It will not be able to be streamed or sold anywhere once their contract with Netflix is up. Even sales of physical copies are being stopped now. Piracy is literally the only way to watch Final Space now.
Gabe Newell with all his cash couldn’t bring back Megas XLR as a video game, I think it pretty much puts any official continuation out of the question though if you plagiarize and lightly modify the IP they’re unlikely to bother spending the money to go after you
>But no show deserves to be erased from any possible future.
It wasn't. He's just crying like a dramatic little b***h. His wet dump of a show managed to get a physical release and more seasons than 80% of modern cartoons can hope for. He's crying because he wanted MORE, more than he deserves.
>never ever in history has a thing that isn't popular enough to maintain itself gone out of print or lost distribution due to it's own shittiness
If kimcartoon did an audit of watch hours pirate sites would probably stop hosting finalspace too. I wouldn't be surprised if the stream rip torrents go down because show was bad.
Amazingly a laze hatefic "le subversion trope" of the blonde haired blue eyed idealist protagonist didn't go over well. Whoever greenlit the pilot that led to korean animation slaves having to make three whole seasons of this shit was a massive homosexual.
>Why are you guys being such dicks about this. If this happened to you
it will never happen to them. they don't have the skills or understanding to pull off even the most mediocre of content. they wallow in salt
>skills >result of said skills worth more as literal garbage
lol @ three seasons of cliffhangers, what a fool. no wonder people didn't watch something you yourself were half-assing
>Expensive, incredibly tepid and largely ignored through and through >Still got three (3) seasons, ending on three (3) cliffhangers; why the frick was this allowed >Ended years ago >Screaming into the void about how mistreated he's being while people behind better shows that got outright canceled because of HBO's shekel-grubbing are saying farewell and thanking their fans
He's a grade-A homosexual, simple as.
Why is there so much hate for Final Space here? It was good and certainly better than other adult cartoons.
It was bland and forgettable with aggressively mediocre writing. Nonetheless, I don't hate it. I don't think anyone really hates it, mostly because there's nothing to hate about it in the same way that there's nothing to like about it. How that wet fart of a show survived as long as it did is, frankly, beyond me.
>say something isn't making money and is a capital loss >continuing to distribute it is akin to saying it isn't a loss
Regardless it costs money, time, and opportunity to try and sell something. Trash like this would be vaulted regardless. It's just icing on the cake it can be declared so unprofitable it's production cost can count against a companies tax burden so taxes don't shutter an otherwise profitable company because of bad expenditures like making a shitty cartoon.
The cope and seethe is over not making any more residuals from distribution, not the sob story about the le artistic merit of this subversion trope shovelware. That is the real frick you he's pissed about, they're stiffing him because they were saddled with an unsaleable product. The immense amount of nepotism and backroom israeliteery required to get final space shuffled between half a dozen networks and for 3 seasons of a show no one watched to actually be made is insulting part. So many resources were poured into "content" no one wanted and shit finally stopped rolling downhill. Completely killing the IP so this dipshit can't make money off funcopop licensing is a good thing. All these fricks need to get drummed out of the animation industry.
>Something is gone forever after being removed from a streaming site >In an age where torrenting easier than ever and can be easily automated with 10 mins of work
So glad im not a moron pay for streaming sites that are a worse deal than cable.
Final space has got to be one of the worst shows I have ever watched, and yet despite that it was also probably the most soulful thing I have ever seen
And here I thought I was the only one that really disliked it. I'm actually now kinda surprised how many other people didn't like it considering I'd see threads for it here from time to time.
I do feel bad. I didn't watch the show, but having media locked up to never be released to the public is such a loss, no matter how crap the content is. Wouldn't it make more sense for tax write-offs like this to be made available to anyone for free? Y'know, on a free/trial version of HBO Max or YouTube or Amazon or the Library of Congress?
If you want to tell a story, write a book. Or make a webcomic. Or pull a Hazbin and start creating episodes of a show yourself.
The thing is, these people don't want to tell a story, they want to make a TV series that is shown to an audience on television.
So they make concessions. They make the design more like Family Guy, they gut the animation, tone down the jokes, maybe even slap an existing IP on their creation.
And then they whine when the people that they signed the rights of their creation away to do what they want with it.
I've got no sympathy for the dude. The game is shit, but you can't play and then complain about the consequences.
Are his parents rich af? He seems like a very entitled little shit. His Wikipedia page doesn’t in depth about his family, but I’m assuming he comes from money.
Because the cartoon industry is basically made up of people at the top who are shitheels, their friends right below them who are also shitheels, and the people in the middle and on the bottom who hate both groups at the top.
As such it'd be a lot harder to get any real projects off the ground since most of the animation industry in America is too busy getting into slapfights on Twitter and having falling-outs because of high school level drama and autists having mental breakdowns.
Animation and comics are two entirely different beasts. Animation is way more expensive to make compared to just making your own indie comic. It would take a small fortune to make just a 60 minute "movie" and serialized tv show with multiple episodes? Would require you being literal rich with unlimited income to fund THAT.
And even if you are a trust fund brat who has a large fortune to waste, you STILL need distribution deals to get your shit out to the public. Not to mention promote it to the masses. And unless you have a hook or name value and god-tier connections and networking skills, like say Donny O'Malley, you aren't going to be able to get people to even FIND your creation. And most media companies that MIGHT buy your product are the type that would demand full ownership of the IP or worse, eternal distribution rights to your work (meaning that they can bury it if they want to and you can never ever release it yourself or take it to another company).

Animators can make whole cartoons by themselves in Blender.

Never. Mediocrity deserves to suffer.
That show pic is from is more mediocre than any other modern cartoon, you’re lucky Nick hasn’t learned about tax losses yet
This. Show was absolute dog shit, and one season was more than enough.
You pour your heart into a passion project only to have it wipedbaway by money hungry buttholes and see if you feel the same way.
Easy to talk when you lack the drive to even try.
Final space sucked dick tho. And I had friends who worked on that shit.
Ok then give names Mr. Tuff guy.
Make me.
At this rate it's better to learn animation yourself and make shorts for as low a budget as possible.
Watched the first season but couldn't get into the second

I'm a collector. I keep lot of stuff, even stuff I don't like. One could call me a hoarder, but I'll laugh at their faces when I have that one episode of some obscure show once it becomes lost media.
People coomed themselves over Disney & Fox's unholy merger because "MUH CROSSOVERS", wouldn't be surprising if the same blindness induced by those personal desires stretches here too.
Robotomy, Megas XLR, and SBT were also canned early and written as a tax off.
And those had a better budget and more effort put into them than Final Space.
It honestly just looked like some rick and Morty ripoff
>implying you would not be pissed if your show was written off for taxes
Worse than cancellation
I wouldn't make a show
I meaning wouldn't make a show so unpopular it gets the tax axe
No passionate creator will ever work with HBO/Discovery ever again. The company has already lost more than they tried to gain and they’re still losing more
Crazy to think such a big company will die, all because a dementia ridden half deaf old fart decided to shoot himself in the foot
>No passionate creator will ever work with HBO/Discovery ever again.
That applies to all American media conglomerates, honestly.
This is world wide thanks to Blackrock.
I dunno man, something tells me that that Blackrock doesn't exactly have much impact on Chinese animation.
Jesus Christ, guy. Do you ever stop schizoposting?
Guy… I’m gonna make a show in the future. I’m like water, glowing freely because I’m the dude
But you Guy? You’re like a geometrical storm. Snowflakes moving in boxes across fractal shaped clouds
Please Guy. Get into animation my man. I wanna see the inside of your brain
>your memory of final space will be the only proof it ever existed unless you own a copy
Torrentsisters win, again
>chasing an ending for this story
They had multiple seasons, yet didn’t have an ending that wasn’t a cliffhanger? Deserved if so
Yeah, doing a cliffhanger on its third season with no advance renewal was a huge mistake.
The show was also very expensive by adult swim standards at 900k an episode. In comparison, the entire first season of Smiling Friends was said to about the same as a single episode of Family Guy which would be around 2-3 mil.
How does this shit cost so much money. Smiling Friends is funny but what the frick
FG and its ilk are expensive because of celebrity voice actors and any licensed content like music used in the show. This shit eats up the lion's share of every episode's budget.
>final space was his best that he had to offer
oh god, I feel sorry for him. I really hope this will be his final space. It needs to be.
>The arrogance that you assumed you'd get 4 seasons
He thought he could get more than that.
The average person can always pirate it.
>thinking the average normie knows how to pirate anything
taxation is theft
I made a better space show but I'm not sharing it here. He made a space opera with a fricking moron as the lead. you can't say its better after x episodes you have to come out the gate swinging. He needs to take the L his show was on tbs and adult swim and the show still wasn't moving merch or viewership high enough for renewal. I'm slight being a dick but the main character being a moron is completely banal. And it's set in space everything is trying to kill you all the time.
>I made a better space show but I'm not sharing it here.
C'mon, anon.
It's an animatic pilot and it's new. Posting your work here is weird. Some industry higher ups have a real vendetta against others for posting on Cinemaphile. I enjoy the anonymity and unfilteredness.
Tiara go back to work
This show fricking sucked ass, but this erasing of shows for a tax write-off maneuver is really shitty.
I really really REALLY dislike Final Space but it doesn't matter. Erasing a piece of media from ever being able to exist ever again is a super dangerous practice and we need to figure out how to put a stop to it.
>we need to figure out how to put a stop to it.
Pirate
> "We need to put a stop to the government dropping mustard gas on it's civilians"
> "Wear a gas mask"
not the point
Is your problem that these shows aren't on the specific streaming services owned by the producers? They are all still available for streaming and download.
is your logic really this bad?
When are one of these disgruntled animators finally going to go postal?
>let me beg for a flash mob to get more work after I ended on a cliffhanger to try and blackmail another season
>here, let me piss off the entire managing arm of the industry, surely that will help my cause
If that was your take away, you completely missed the point.
being cancelled != being eternally vaulted. I can be happy a show was cancelled while still being pissed that nobody can ever have the hope to see it ever again.
>nobody can ever have the hope to see it ever again.
I mean, last I checked they can still just pirate those shows.
I would be happy if crap was eternally vaulted. We don't need the next generation and the ones after to be exposed to it.
PS: I'm not specifically referring to Final Space since I kinda liked the show.
You're a fricking idiot.
probably more accurate for him to say that it can't be continued, rather than saying its being wiped entirely from existence and nobody will ever be able to see it ever again.
That would've happened, regardless. If it's unpopular enough to warrant being written off, it wasn't popular enough to be continued anyway.
No, that's more accurate. It will not be able to be streamed or sold anywhere once their contract with Netflix is up. Even sales of physical copies are being stopped now. Piracy is literally the only way to watch Final Space now.
Good. I always thought the show was kind of cringe, despite having Conan's name behind it.
Actually, I still feel bad for them. What a shitty undeserved fate.
as a write-off, he can't just continue the story as a comic?
Gabe Newell with all his cash couldn’t bring back Megas XLR as a video game, I think it pretty much puts any official continuation out of the question though if you plagiarize and lightly modify the IP they’re unlikely to bother spending the money to go after you
>Muh corporate boot
We should hunt your kind for sport.
>But no show deserves to be erased from any possible future.
It wasn't. He's just crying like a dramatic little b***h. His wet dump of a show managed to get a physical release and more seasons than 80% of modern cartoons can hope for. He's crying because he wanted MORE, more than he deserves.
Holy shit what a crybaby. He should be thanking the Lord every single day of his life for having had such a sought after opportunity.
>never ever in history has a thing that isn't popular enough to maintain itself gone out of print or lost distribution due to it's own shittiness
Hm. May as well pass the mega or torrent around if that's an option.
Why are you guys being such dicks about this. If this happened to you you guys would on here making a thread saying the same thing.
Because he cries like a little b***h about it , why else?
Again if you were in his shoes would you not be pissed about what's happening to your show and it's pretty much being discarded?
I wouldn’t whine like him or make a Redditor tier speech about it
Ok what would you do then. Huh tough guy
Say that it sucks
Isn't that what he's saying right now but in a longer wording?
That’s why he’s gay
>and
*as
But I'm not in his shoes, I'm hearing him b***h. And it's annoying so I complain.
>Why are you guys being such dicks about this. If this happened to you
it will never happen to them. they don't have the skills or understanding to pull off even the most mediocre of content. they wallow in salt
>skills
>result of said skills worth more as literal garbage
lol @ three seasons of cliffhangers, what a fool. no wonder people didn't watch something you yourself were half-assing
Get me some chicken pot pie b***h
Get it yourself you piece of shit
Because we'll never get off this ride either way.
He's show got cancelled before the tax write off
Other shows have it worse like MaoMao
>Expensive, incredibly tepid and largely ignored through and through
>Still got three (3) seasons, ending on three (3) cliffhangers; why the frick was this allowed
>Ended years ago
>Screaming into the void about how mistreated he's being while people behind better shows that got outright canceled because of HBO's shekel-grubbing are saying farewell and thanking their fans
He's a grade-A homosexual, simple as.
It was bland and forgettable with aggressively mediocre writing. Nonetheless, I don't hate it. I don't think anyone really hates it, mostly because there's nothing to hate about it in the same way that there's nothing to like about it. How that wet fart of a show survived as long as it did is, frankly, beyond me.
i still dont undertsand how making a promise you wont be making anymore content of a show to the goverment is a an actual thing to avoid paying.
>say something isn't making money and is a capital loss
>continuing to distribute it is akin to saying it isn't a loss
All these fricks need to get drummed out of the animation industry.
>t. the only smart anon in the room
Thank you.
he knows piracy is a thing, right?
he doesn't get paid residuals for that anon
Yes but despite what he says, he doesn't care about his work being seen. He just wants shekels.
This.
This gay isn't upset because "n-no one will EVER be able to see it again!" he's upset because he won't be able to make money off of it anymore.
>Something is gone forever after being removed from a streaming site
>In an age where torrenting easier than ever and can be easily automated with 10 mins of work
So glad im not a moron pay for streaming sites that are a worse deal than cable.
Physical ownership is the only correct way to appreciate cartoons
Christ, Final Space is dead, let it fricking lie.
Season 3 was such a dumpster fire, how the frick would he ever expect a fourth would get the go-ahead?
I watched it all the way to the end, and would like those hours of my life back.
Why is there so much hate for Final Space here? It was good and certainly better than other adult cartoons.
I think it all stems from people not liking Gary.
I found him quite likeable and cute.
I bet you shipped him with the cat.
It was a fricking mess, I never had a clear idea what the characters were fighting for, just a bunch of sci-fi tropes thrown together
The show ending on the main characters losing is pretty based and I'd actually rather it not continue for that to be the definitive end to the series
BUY HIS SHIRT OR ELSE HE'LL WRITE A VERY ANGRY TWEET
RENEW HIS SHOW OR ELSE HE'LL GO GOBLIN MODE
punk ass white boy think he look gangsta
Are his parents rich af? He seems like a very entitled little shit. His Wikipedia page doesn’t in depth about his family, but I’m assuming he comes from money.
Oh he is just asking for it
homie looks like he's about to bring the Columbine to Warner if he doesn't get his show back.
When this happened in the 80s in the comics industry the creator owned movement happened in response
Why am I seeing nothing like that in cartoons?
Because capitalism won.

Most animators refuse to take advantage of advances of technology.
Animators can make whole cartoons by themselves in Blender.
Because in that era the soviets lost.
How do you bleed drawing a digital cartoon?
My life as dew
Dissappears like dew
All of naniwa
Was just a dream
get fricked lmao
>shit your pants angrily about #releasethesnydercut
>cries boo-boo and begs people to be your personal army in social media when you get your shit shitcanned
Good Riddance. Final Space was horrendous just from the commercials alone.
No mega?
didnt the creator admit his show went to shit after season 2 or 3?
