alyways my shelf, do people really like it that much?
newest stuff, plus Incal Black & White came today. was sold used for half price but it was still plastic wrapped.
I'm reading through the incal. It get a bit boring in the latter half in all honesty .
yeah it does, but the art is so fricking good.
Before the Incal > The Incal
I think The Borgias and Metabarons are Jodorowsky's best work.
>I'm reading through the incal. It get a bit boring in the latter half in all honesty
I liked The Incal, but mostly for the art, not the story. Also it felt like the translation wasn't perfect to be honest.
I see Humanoids have published a lot of Jodorowsky's other stories - The Jodorowsky Library collection: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T3J9PBJ
Five books, reminds me of The Neil Gaiman Library from Dark Horse.
Which brings the question: is it worth getting into Jodo' short stories?
Or it's the same way as with Gaiman - read The Sandman and stay away from his other works?
People always tend to recommend The Incal and The Metabarons, but nothing else and I think it's mostly because Jodorowsky is getting carried hard by the mind-blowing art of Moebius and Gimenez.
>as with Gaiman - read The Sandman and stay away from his other works?
Hey, Gaiman's not a bad writer. American Gods, Stardust, and Neverwhere are worth a read and if you like Sandman's single issue tales then he's also got several short story collections too, which are basically the same thing but in prose
From Jodo I would recommend:
>Metabarons
>The Borgias
>Before the Incal
>Technopriests
>Son of the Gun
>Madwoman of the Sacred Heart
>Diosamante (beware it's unfinished)
>Or it's the same way as with Gaiman - read The Sandman and stay away from his other works?
it's a short story, but I am an enjoyer of Chivalry. Though granted, the main draw there is the stunning artwork.
first Jodorowsky story I read was The Technopriests and I still love it to this day.
Coraline is really great too. it's a bit different to the movie though so don't be surprised.
>first Jodorowsky story I read was The Technopriests and I still love it to this day.
Oh really? The new deluxe edition just came out, I might check it out.
Heard it was the weakest story out of the Jodoverse though.
NTA, but Technopriests is good.
Megalex is absolute trash.
I also found Jodo underwhelming.
>Or it's the same way as with Gaiman - read The Sandman and stay away from his other works?
My favorite Gaiman books are not Sandman related. Violent Cases (and pretty much everything he's done with McKean) is well worth reading.
As for Jodo, he has a lot of good books, but many of them are carried by the artist. Son of the Gun and White Llama by Bess. Incal and Madwoman of the Sacred Heart by Moebius. Metabarons by Gimenez. Panic Fables by himself.
>Which brings the question: is it worth getting into Jodo' short stories?
The Borgias is top Jodorowsky
>Or it's the same way as with Gaiman - read The Sandman and stay away from his other works?
Mr. Punch is better than The Sandman. Violent Cases is good too.
>Mr. Punch is better than The Sandman
Eh, not really.
Yes, one cohesive story with McKean on art is better than The Sandman
Incidentally, Cages also happens to be better than Sandman. Coincidence? I think not.
McKean can make comics on his own and his interests seem more interesting than Gaiman's
I like Cages better than the complete Sandman, but not Mr. Punch. Maybe I should read all the McKean/Gaiman comics in succession.
I would have loved if McKean did all of Sandman in different styles. That would have been a comic for the ages.
Posting my graveyard of past orders to shame myself into finally cleaning it up!!
Are you more likely to look through a shelf if it's all in one image, or do you prefer separate posts? I want to make my shelfwhoring as optimized as possible.
I've never even heard of Jeeves. Damn, that's a lot of novels.
I need to read stuff like Razorblades. I know no current names in comics, and even some of the people in there have been established for a decade or more. And goddamn does Cullen Bunn have a lot of books.
>I've never even heard of Jeeves. Damn, that's a lot of novels.
Wodehouse wrote around 100 novels. there's also a TV-series called Jeeves and Wooster with Hugh Laurie and Steven Fry, which is really good comedy, can warmly recommend.
Going through looking for photos of the shelves, I also found these acrylic cases I bought. Still away in storage. I need to build some backings and bottoms to put them on. Anyone else ever use acrylic like this?
I bought a DVD set of one or two seasons of that show.
Neat.
What's the intended audience? How's the prose for someone who doesn't read literature too often? I'm working on reading more, but I had to stop Turn of the Screw pretty early on because I found it hard to focused with the style, but didn't have a problem with House on the Borderland which is from around the time of the first Jeeves stories.
I'm comparing apples to oranges with the genres here, but these are my only experiences with literature that old so far.
Wodehouse sometimes uses weird words and phrases which he picked up during time in Dulwich College, but it's really not too hard to understand.
>looks like he had to drive to get here.
you live in the Australian Outback?
sheeeit, full series is on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUsGrRmdygsl3x81v_O43oMiUqp9B8Chp
The only reason to watch Jeeves and Wooster is for the chemistry of Fry and Laurie and the novelty of Laurie playing a comedy character if you've only ever seen him on House.
Most of the plots are pretty repetitive:
are either Wooster agreeing to help a member of his social circle, who's functionally moronic, in their love life even though Wooster is a volcel and possible closet homosexual because Wooster is the least moronic of his wealthy circle of friends or Wooster being told by his cold, controlling, castrating Aunt who raised him and controls his access to his fortune, he'll have to marry a woman of her choosing by the end of the month.
fricks shit up for his friend nearly costing him the love of his life or ends up instead of scaring away his arranged marriage wife (who is always a cold calculating castrating b***h), makes her double down on wanting to marry him so she can "fix" IE castrate Wooster to the likings of his Aunt, who resents Wooster for being a man and living a carefree bachelor life.
, who spends most of the episode snarking at Wooster's arrogance in thinking he's hot shit and smart, swoops in to actually fix shit so the friend and his love interest can get together and undo the damage Wooster did to them or in the case of the Aunt, does everything short of outing Wooster as a homosexual to scare off the Aunt's love match, screwing over her plans to make her nephew wed.
Sounds good, I don't see the problem.
The appeal of Jeeves and Wooster is that it's both a satire of the wealthy set, but also an inversion of the master/servant dynamic in a time when you rarely saw it in fiction.
Jeeves is such a Mary Sue type genius that he probably could be a successful businessman or even politician if he had any ambition or gave a frick about moving ahead in society.
But he'd rather be a valet to a rich upper class twit who can barely function on his own, because he can control and manipulate Wooster to the point that he's basically running Wooster's life and gets to live a life of luxury while Wooster pays the bills. And Wooster submits to it, because he's starved for fatherly affection, that Jeeves' paternal treatment of him is worth letting him run his life.
i love horror stuff so it was a no brainer for me also is that a craby patty?
>looks like he had to drive to get here.
based ted kaczynki
>is that a craby patty?
It's just a cheeseburger coin bank. I've had it for a decade. I don't remember why I bought it or why I still have it, other than it's kind of funny to me.
looks good helps break the space first thing that drew my eye. i my self still have my small pink piggy bank
>collecting all the Jeeves novels
>in Folio Society format
jesus christ how rich are you to embark on that madness
I bought them used for a good price. that whole set cost me €400. it's 20 books in that pic -> €20 each.
yeah makes sense
>USPS package says delivered 6:52am this morning
>see the update an hour later and check
>no package anywhere
How fricked am I shelfies?
I had that as well a few months back, the delivery guy apparently just checked the "check all" button on his app, but delivered it later that day.
I've read online(someone who claimed to have gotten it straight from their delivery guy) that apparently sometimes they have to do that because they're penalised if they're late on delivering packages by an hour or whatever, but they're given too many packages to be able to accomplish that without breaking speed limits. So they're forced to mark them as delivered early and then deliver them when they're able to actually get to your place. Sounds just like the kind of corporate bullshit that would be true.
Good news! My comics arrived but not delivered by USPS. One of the neighbors got it and was kind enough to bring it to my door. Older gentleman, looks like he had to drive to get here.
New stuff.
Finally getting more into The Question omni and while I love the stories, I have a serious question about the production of this book
They include the letter pages, which I've never seen a DC omni do before, but then they stick them all at the back in one massive chunk. What gives? It's annoying to flick to the back of the book every time you finish an issue to find the corresponding letter page, but then it'd also be annoying to read all the letter pages in one single chunk. What were they thinking?
Enjoy the Miracleman, anon. I've just reached Book 3 in it myself and I only just realised I have no fricking clue what I expected to happen in the story other than "Captain Marvel goes bad". It's mad but in a good, Moore-ish way
>What were they thinking?
Publishers have this weird thought that people don't even want to be interrupted covers between issues. At least I say it's weird, because I don't know what consumer is expressing this idea. I fricking hate when a book doesn't have covers between issues (and if I'm really speaking my mind, I don't like when the virgin cover art is between issues - I like knowing what issue I'm reading. Throw the virgin covers at the back or something) because they weren't written to be read like that, it's jarring to suddenly see some little recap or discontinuity from page to page, where one issue ends and another begins.
I'm happy they included letters at all. That should be standard, honestly. If the original issue had it, fricking give it to me.
>I'm happy they included letters at all. That should be standard, honestly. If the original issue had it, fricking give it to me.
Fricking this
Marvel's Silver Age pretty much all include the letter pages after their corresponding issue, which I love. It's great to see what people were thinking of comics at the time. But then some of their omnis don't have letter pages at all, which kinda sucks
Then relating to your earlier point about the covers, one of the other things I hated about the Simonson Thor omnibus from a while back was how all the covers were just completely textless and recoloured. They don't even have the logo, which completely ruins the point of the first issue in the collection (pic related)
>recoloring covers
Fricking disgusting. I disagree with recoloring the way they do it, but at least I understand it. Recoloring the covers makes no sense to me.
Don't ever pick up that Simonson Thor omni then anon
>Marvel's Silver Age pretty much all include the letter pages after their corresponding issue, which I love.
The Conan books were my first Marvel omnis, and I was blown away by all of the letters pages. I especially liked how Savage Sword was collected.
I've never read any Conan before, but I saw somewhere that Titan are apparently going to reprint the first bunch of omnis in the exact same style (just with the publisher name changed)
Is it worth picking up the first volume at least?
I don't know the specifics, but yeah, they pulled the license from Marvel because they just wanted to start reprinting the books themselves. I haven't personally seen what those books will look like or anything.
I'd say so. I have, admittedly, bought them all while not keeping up on reading (because I'd be reading nothing but fricking Conan if I did), but the few first volumes I've read are great. I love the setting and the art has been worth it even if the story is kind of standard fantasy at times. Especially Savage, since I'm a sucker for pen and ink art.
Give them a try online, or start with Busiek's run at Dark Horse which is often recommended. That's what I did when Marvel started reprinted Conan, and I fell in love with the world immediately.
Yes it is. The BnW series (Savage Sword) has a higher quality level early on if only because Roy Thomas wanted to do the color series in real time and he already had a habit of drawing things out too long which this only made worse. There’s a huge quality jump later when Fliescher takes over, imo.
The art is mostly Big John Buscema and fricking excellent.
I consider myself blessed for not caring about Conan.
Conan the Barbarian - 10 omnis.
Savage Sword of Conan - at least 9 omnis and feels like it's going to be 16 in total.
Those out of print colossal Dark Horse collections going for ridiculous amount of money.
Saves me approximately $ 3k.
You should at least check out some of the actual Conan stories by Robert E Howard instead. I'm sure the comics are good in their own right but nothing can beat the originals
Agreed. Howard's prose is amazing.
I dunno, anon, I have it all and I’m not even mad.
That's something they did to the Nancy Collins Swamp Thing omnibus. All of the covers were stripped of the text on them, logo and issue # included, which made it super hard to casually flip through it to find an issue to read from the book.
The letter pages were included, in part because they had a running feature where O'Neill would routinely recommend books about zen philosophy to readers since he got a lot people writing in confused by the zen stuff he was featuring in the book.
I'm not complaining about the letters pages being included--I love that sort of thing---but I AM complaining about the stupid way they put it in the book
That miracle man omnibus looks great but all I need is tpb 3 to complete the original run from eclipse comics. Argh
bump
New taschen collection of Marvel comics: https://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/comics/all/08115/facts.marvel_comics_library_fantastic_four_vol_1_19611963.htm
kind of cool but I got the omnis already and don't want to double-dip
same character, might be slightly different interpretation though plus as the title suggests it's a biography of stuff he did before he became the richest duck in the world.
Latest. Been reading through some of the Batman issues. Prey was great with some primo Gulacy art, and I was super impressed with the issues with the Dick Sprang covers.
I'm waiting for them to release a smaller edition of these at a cheaper price. I'd be fine with them being comic book size or slightly larger. Amazing reproduction though. How it should be done.
>Mignola Dracula
top choice anon. What does the poster look like? I bought the hardcover trade, I didn't know posters originally came with floppies.
Looks like this. I love this era of Mignola.
Joe Shuster does the strip at the beginning so it looks just like the comics.
was that a comic to the 1992 movie?
Yeah, it's an adaptation of the Francis Ford Coppola film. It's good shit
That tight as frick, thanks for sharing!
>superman the dailies
beautiful
I think I got those Topps Mignola Dracula books out of a dollar bin at a gheift store.
Looks cool af.
I feel like it's worth mentioning this Panel by Panel book for the brokies like me who want to see the classic books in a bigger format, not as impressive as the Taschen monster and definitely not the same experience but seeing the panels blown up like this is a fun experience and the book goes for <$20
Also my most recent pickups. Have Miricleman omni on the way and pre ordered some random indie comic I found with cool looking art
Why the Deluxe edition of Animal Man? The omnibus got reprinted a few months ago, still in stock.
And for The Starr Conspiracy it's better to grab The Deluxe Gimenez for ~$60 on IST.
I was literally about to post the same things as you
>Why the Deluxe edition of Animal Man?
Prefer to have different formats as I don't like my shelf being 100% omnis and it was cheaper to get them separately for me
>And for The Starr Conspiracy it's better to grab The Deluxe Gimenez for ~$60
I was holding out for it but it was as cheaper to get those books separately as well and they are the same size as my copy of Metabarons and I have Segments pre-ordered which should hopefully be around the same size so they should look nice together. The main reason though was because that shiny cover looked a little scary, I would scratch the shit out of it after a few reads and pulling it off my shelf
Gimenez' art is/wass so fricking amazing, love the details in his science-fiction clothes and his overall imagination when it comes to machines, ship designs etc. shame he died 2 years ago
I've got both volumes of Animal Man on my shelf, got them relatively recently as well, but I'm thinking of getting the omnibus to replace them because they're mismatched and it gets on my nerves. Book 1 is the regular trade and Book 2 is the deluxe hardcover
I really want to check out some of their bigger collection books out but they are so dang pricey.
New to comics and I'm a bit confused on the duck comics, I grew up reading the "Donald Duck" comics which ofc features Scrooge but is that still the same character as the Scrooge from let's say The life and times?
Cuz I've been thinking of picking life and times up but I'm afraid of getting whiplash when that Scrooge is very different
>Damaged books, worldwide shipping:
Here's my new haul.
I'm very happy with Hard Boiled hardcover restock, let's hope the 2nd printing of TBP has the old coloring though: https://cheapgraphicnovels.com/hard-boiled-tp.html
I wish they'd release the og colors for those old Darrow works but at least the recolors are by Dave Stewart and actually look good in their own. Its not like its another shitty Oliff recolor.
What on earth are you going to put on their Swastika shaped shelf Maus, The Sega of White Will, Tintin in the Congo?
it's the rotating shelf on the right. I don't think I even own any nazi-/holocaust specific comics plus final assembly has the swastika inverted anyway.
For fellow UK /shelf/anons, where's the best place to find those "damaged but selling" omnis online?
I always see stories and posts of people buying some book online for a massive discount because it's damaged, and then when it turns up it's just that one of the corners is slightly pressed down or the plastic wrapping got nicked slightly. I want to get in on that shit.
amazon.co.uk -> today's deals -> warehouse deals -> department: books -> comics & graphic novels
or click on the drop down menu and click "amazon warehouse", then type in omnibus
inb4
>amazon
you are buying used/opened goods which customers returned for whatever reason (unwanted or damaged). if these goods were damaged then it's in the description and if it's too damaged for you then you can still return them. it's worth a look, back when it was still in print I got my Nick Fury omni from there for €37 and the only "damage" it had was a slight nick at the back cover
Thanks anon. I've just had a look now, there doesn't seem to be too much at the moment but I'll keep it in mind
What do we think about Folio doing full storylines instead of the random "best of " collections they've done until now?
£75 for 12 issues, without the bonus material you'd get in the 3 trades that cover the same run, is a big much.
The best of collections are far better imo, even if sometimes the modern issues they pick are far from ideal. Plus they give you a nice facsimile edition of the first issue as well.
75 quid for 12 issues of Coates' Black Panther run is fricking laughable tbh. I can get omnis for notably less than that which will actually take me a while to work through.
Penguin ended up doing something similar where they printed they printed classic Spider-Man and Captain America skipping some issues in between but then printing Black Panther the whole way through the same as his epic. Although that made more sense than Folio completely changing their approach
If they did this for Moench's Moon Knight comics I'd snatch that shit up.
These just seem like a shitty version of an absolute, are they even oversized?
No, they're standard trade size. The Gold/Silver/Bronze books were oversized, but the "best of" Cap, Spidey, Hulk and Thor books were all normal size, and so is this new Black Panther thing.
Nope they are the size of a comic issue, the appeal of the other ones was that they would be printed much closer to the original comics. I'm sure it's a high quality book with a nice slipcase but it doesn't really seem worth it for modern comics unless you really like that cover for some moronic reason
Very subtle, Busiek.
Are the more recent Astro City comics any good?
I don't get what you mean? The Unclean or Untouchables are/were an Indian caste, the lowest, to be exact. If you expected a poo in loo reference then that's not what Busiek had in mind.
Finished Lost Girls. 6/10
I wish there was more characterization. Lost Girls suffers from the same problem as most erotic stories where you something sex-related has to happen
on every page. There's no room to breath or explore the characters.
There's a lot of interesting ideas presented in Lost Girls. The backstories of Alice, Wendy, and Dorothy are really tragic, but the book doesn't really explore the consequences of the fricked up shit that happens to them.
That being said this is definitely one of the best looking comics I've ever read. Melinda Gebbie absolutely knocks it out of the park with her colored pencil art.
Its the last Moore thing Ive yet to read and Im not in a huge hurry to do so.
I definitely think Lost Girls gets more shit than it deserves, but I'd never dare to have it on my shelf. It's amazing how often I've seen someone on Cinemaphile or Cinemaphile proclaim it to be "the comic where the pedo Moore makes Disney heroines all get raped as children", with everybody else just agreeing or at least not pointing out that it's wrong. It's like people never discuss the merits of the book on its actual themes and art, only on what they've heard about it being porn and Moore loving rape.
To be fair, Moore DOES love his rape
But it's not like he does it for erotica like those people seem to believe. He uses it because it's a good way to completely dehumanise a character like the invisible man in TLoEG. Having him be found raping schoolgirls who think they're being visited by the holy ghost immediately shows that this man is NOT a good guy in any way, he's straight satanical. Then his death employs rape to really make you feel that he got his just deserts. When done to female main characters it's not treated erotically, it's done to make you feel for them because they've had the ultimate intrusion done upon them. It's the online sickos who get off on the idea of a woman being forced to frick a fish and then they project that onto Moore, who was busy writing a horror comic when coming up with that scene.
It’s his fetish anon. Get over it.
There's hardly any rape in his comics. There's probably more attempted rape, and way, WAY more murder.
Moore loving rape is like Miller loving prostitutes; a stupid cliche said by people who only know work that was adapted int he 2000's.
Moore enjoys rape and Lost Girls is shit. There's nothing thematically interesting about LG that couldn't be found in a typical storytime cartoon about "finding your true queer self." It's a nothing narrative. Moore himself acknowledged that it's just smut that pseuds jack to.
Well... I am finally getting around to finishing some proper shelves. Repainting some shevles I got from a relative's basement when they downsized to senior living.
Not sure I want Joker stuff in it... but I like green on one side and this nice purple on the other.
Keep us posted about it, this looks absolutely fricking disgusting so far
The green needed a few more coats. Luckily I found some more of that color.
Bottom of the shelf will be purple and the top and sides will be that Joker / Slimer green.
IST package finally arrived
What the heck is with that box. Did you take stuff off the top already?
I wish they would use bubblewrap in my orders more often, instead of that expanding foam stuff. I can't reuse that, goddamn it.
thats how it came in i was also surprised they didnt use their normal foam
>Start getting Once and Future trades
>"Once and Future Deluxe"
>tfw
Why Howard the Duck Omni?
so thats the first printing and for the longest time it was on sale over at hamilton books for like 25 bucks i bought like 3 and flip them for 40ish keeping one for my self...........i prob shouldnt have i couldnt force my self to read past the 2 issues, its not very good.
that just the nature of the beast anon thank you for your sacrifices
I get it. There is a comic art seller out of Ohio that has a soft spot for Howard the Duck. He literally has 30k original art Howard the Duck covers from the book and I'm happy for him but a bit confused on why.
i guess i need to buy more kallax since this one is stuffed to the max, all the shelves have crap behind the crap in front
i really want to get the big hardcover hellsing and berserks, just don't want to buy it lel
Is the Kamen Rider manga good? What about that Lupin III book next to it?
Also
>owning Book of the New Sun in both hardcover and softcover
Very based
kamen rider is good if you like older manga, at least so far. I haven't finished it yet
I liked the little Lupin collection. Nice art, I don't think the stories are actually in published order though, haven't researched it.
They look nice on the shelf too. Very tempted to just grab both.
Very Cinemaphile of you anon but great taste over all and I hear ya on the beserk/hellsing books I love them but man at 30 a pop makes me pause whenever I missed them on IST
>hellsing
2anime4me
And man those dc posters are such a bargain for the price
Razorblades sucks bro. There's only a few decent pieces in the entire thing. Tynion is weak sauce.
kinda bummed that the Conan omni prints at Marvel were such a limited run. Conan/Savage Sword of Conan omnis 1-3 were almost instantly OOP (though a lot of people seemingly didn't collect the higher numbers any more after realizing how many there actually are)
https://www.gamesradar.com/conan-the-barbarian-comic-books-get-a-new-life-at-titan-comics-in-2023/
exciting to see that they will reprint them at Titan Comics. This time I won't miss them.
I did a lower book case I got from my old comic shop in the same matching green.
Been reading the old Sleepwalker series from the early 90s, its not too bad. Also was planning my next haul for the holidays. Wanted to reward myself for a challenging semester, so I figured I would get a nicer book than usual, was thinking of picking up one of the nice scrooge books, since I read Don Rosa's Complete Life and Times recently and enjoyed it. Are there any other well made (and well told) books you guys recommend? Preferably non capeshit, but if its a good story, I'm game for anything.
>Marvel has 111 omnis planned for 2023 (variant covers included)
>DC has 5 (five) [cinco]
DCbros... not like this...
I gave up on tracking the solicitations for DC's collected editions a long time ago.
im honestly fine with that i dont think i could afford to get everything i would want if DC shat them out like marvel. i honestly just want red lantern, sinestro, larfleeze and PG omnibus
how can she have no ass?
she is a titty monster anon not a ass monster
yeah that is very distressing
>I can't afford it so no one should be happy
really, anon?
>really, anon?
YES
What five are those?
probably 5x Batman.
1-2. Dark Nights: Metal Omnibus (2 covers)
3. Batman & Robin By Tomasi and Gleason Omnibus reprint
4. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Omnibus
5. The Phantom Stranger Omnibus
Thanks. I hate it.
Tell me about that manga you got.
Call of the Night and Uncle from Another World were my favourites from last season so decided to pickup the manga, especially since who knows when we'll get the rest of the anime. I Don't Like You at All BB is a series I picked the first couple vols up for like 8 years ago when they first came out. I noticed they were becoming harder to find so thought I better get the last few while I could. Hitomi-chan is cute and Chained Soldier is lewd.
Uncle from Another World was so fricking good. Shame we apparently might not ever even get the rest of the episodes. The manga is slightly larger than regular volumes and it's a nice matte type cover.
>Dark Knights Metal omni
>B&R reprint
>Batman/TMNT omni
>Phantom Stranger omni that will most likely get delayed for another year
Wow, that fricking sucks (aside from maybe Phantom Stranger, but I know nothing about that)
C'mon DC, you've got such a great back catalog. Put out some more stuff
Boy, I'm sure all of these have the same priority and likelihood of actually seeing shelves.
We're still going to get Sandman Mystery Theatre compendium 2, right? Right?
sure, anon, right after JLI vol 3 omnibus
Yes, as long as you buy one, then get five of your friends to buy one, and tell them to get five of their friends to buy one, and so on.
>tfw bought a set of floppies last year right before the compendium was announced
Goddamn do I hate fatass paperbacks
I bought all the (new) Miracleman HCs last year and 1 month later they announced the omni. I also had most of the Parker stuff collected in those small HCs only to find out that the Martini edition exists, which I bought later.
Be a good lad and purchase all of Matt Wagner's Madame Xanadu please. We need an omnibus or at least a compendium.
No.
Hitman by Garth Ennis?
Ostrander's Suicide Squad or The Specter?
The least you could do is to get the Metrobooks of Astro City.
>The least you could do is to get the Metrobooks of Astro City.
homie there is an Astro City omnibus coming already, I ain't gonna do shit.
Source? Busiek was hinting at an Omnibus years ago and nothing has come yet. I am really trying my best to hold off on those Metrobooks for as long as possible
>Source?
Astro City facebook group.
What the frick did I waste the money on them for if this is coming out? Frick
I have all four trades and I haven't gotten myself to read the last one. The art is horrific.
>111
Nani the frick how is this sustainable
Including variant covers means you can cut that number in half
Reposting my latest from last fake /shelf/ thread.
just stared watching that anime (uncle from another world) pretty good. really wish manga would do bigger format books
I also started with this new statue loving all the detail on it
I can't make out what she's holding in her hand, what is it?
It’s a Batman plushie
Read feral from avatar press it’s decent fun read
>tfw Ferals will never be finished
Recommend me some good Werewolf comics /shelf/
We got Ferals, Moonshine, what else?
Much like Uber the stories are written but they won’t hand them over to avatar because they haven’t paid back pay so ;-;
I hate when that happens
>Read feral from avatar press it’s decent fun read
Noted Anon. Thaks
that looks pretty rad
This is an amazing deal. Thanks for sharing.
Received a tpb from ebay that the seller had laminated the cover. A lamentation that was 50% pealed off. Now I have a book full of sticky residue
At least it isn't coom.
Recent purchases. The Batman, Superman, and the final Suicide Squad are signed by Tim Sale and John Ostrander respectively.
happy weekend Gents. it's been pretty quiet in my neck of the woods ... to the point i don't even know what i am going to read next.
Would I like 100 bullets if Ive disliked 90% of what Ive read from Azarello and also hated the first story arc? His dialogue is rough.
Tough call. There are many good stand alone reads in 100 bullets that don't deal with the overall story that are really good. The 1st story was a bit rough and there are a few other 1 issue filler stories in 100 bullets that I didn't enjoy. My local library has the entire series in trades so that may be a better option.
not gonna lie, I wouldn't even read half of that
What’s the Appel of gwenpool iv stayed away from anything modern marvel. I honestly don’t know anything about her expect her name.
Gwenpool is extremely boring. only have this because ex left it when she moved
I want those Ultimate collections of Invincible but dont like how much space itll take on my shelf. The compendiums are smaller but more a pain to read.
Going through some old phone pics, I found a pic of some boxes I have out in an attached garage. Sealed in bags just to be extra safe from bugs and moisture.
those are longboxes/single issues?
>'Fun' MARVEL
>Slott
Still have The Complete Eightball in the mail, but here's what I bought.
>Fujoshimoto
Whats that one shot about ?
A girl is really proud of the comic strip she makes for the school paper but there's a hikikomori in another class who doesn't come to school but contributes better comics to the same paper. First girl learns to draw better but the other one keeps pulling ahead. They later connect and start publishing manga together then they break up, one goes to art school and is murdered by an axe-wielding lunatic
Pretty good read.
Is Lone Wolf and Cub as good as its rep implies? I feel like stories where a character is hindered by a child get boring fast.
its really good.
It's ok. The art is the best part about it, but the whole thing should have been at least 10 volumes shorter.
>but the whole thing should have been at least 10 volumes shorter.
The curse of mainstream manga
Pretty good, prefer Samurai Executioner
I gave up on that one.
It's beautifully drawn but suffers from a great deal of filler (case in point, you don't even get the backstory/premise of the series until like the final story of the first volume).
What about Blade of the Immortal? Worth it?
NTA, but I love Blade of the Immortal. People say the prison arc drags, but I think it does a good job of exploring other characters while not being overshadowed by Manji. Plus beautiful artwork.
Not him, but I don't like it aside from the art. The art is gorgeous.
I read 9 or 10 volumes and thought it was maximum boredom.
Daigoro's nothing like your usual child character, he's basically a hardcore stoic.
I need help! The Thor by Fraction and Moon Knight by Huston, Benson & Hurwitz omnis are both greatly reduced in price at my LCS, around 60 bucks each. It makes me really wanna buy them, but I know they're just shitty, modern runs. Can someone persuade me to listen to my rational side and just leave them be?
You'll just buy them without a discount later anyway if you don't buy them now
Fractions Thor run was a continuation of JDS run right ?
Yeah. Both were really bad.
I thought people generally liked JDS's Thor?
Read
Marvel has 111 omnis planned for 2023.
You don't need those two.
Target sale is up
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i9gZBcSTpNfF3ubONdShUOTDGQP74UJPfqHaYIQayhU/edit?usp=sharing
I had no idea Target had such good sales. Is this in store or online?
It's Buy 2, Get 1 sale.
>Is this in store or online?
No idea about in store, but you can order online and pick it up in store.
I bought all of these recently, waiting on Usagi yojimbo vol 3 as well
>Juiz Dredd
i like dredd

>Just started to get serious with collecting omnibuses
>Want the DC Golden Age stuff
>See the prices on Superman vol 1
>The cheaper reprint looks totally different from the other volumes
>No word on other reprints
What sort of sick bastard would do that?
See
DC doesn't really give too much of a shit about omnibuses whereas Marvel can't stop churning them out
>Want the DC Golden Age stuff
For stuff like this you either buy it as soon as it comes out or don't buy at all.
I doubt DC would reprint this omnibus line any time soon, only a die-hard collectors care about the Golden Age.
>only a die-hard collectors care about the Golden Age
And an even smaller amount of die hard Golden Age fans want to collect every single golden age story poorly recoloured on glossy paper for that price
superman vol1 can still be find for 65 thats not a bad price. i mean i got it for 45 in 2016 but its still ok price
i can never find any good ones but i would if there were more like i i roved out in search of truth and love
>superman vol1 can still be find for 65 thats not a bad price.
I just checked:
vol.1 (new cover though): https://cheapgraphicnovels.com/superman-the-golden-age-omnibus-vol-01-hc-new-ed.html
vols 2-6: https://www.instocktrades.com/search?title=superman+golden+age+omnibus&publisher=&writer=&artist=&cover=&ps=true
Actually not that bad, it's much worse with Batman.
The new cover's a shame though, I love the style and format of the first one. I think DC does it for pretty much all their Golden/Silver Age omnis, don't they?
Adding onto this, it's Darwyn Cooke's art isn't it? Or at the very least something close in style. I love that.
>Darwyn Cooke's
He was a big fan of The Golden Age, his art style is influenced by it.
if your fine with used copy Amazon has the 1st printing for 65 bucks
yeah some people just get stuck on one character i myself love me some PG but most would know why
>check ebay and see several listings like this
Maybe I am autistic.
Yeah I'm sorry but I personally wouldn't have that
That's a shame, because the new dressing is really nice.
that is just killing me
That's just wrong.
Do any of you Anons ever support these lewd art book artists on Kickstarter? I follow this dude on Instagram and I'm kind of thinking about it. It's on $15.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/josevarese/tight-lines
Only book I ever supported was John Ostrander and Jan Duursema's Hexer Dusk
It was okay
Not a bad deal. I've sponsored many Kickstarter titles due to wanting to read something different. Some were good and some were duds. It's just an expensive hobby tho.
im trying to figure it out but those it say how many pages it has?
It's always around 30 pages. So it's about $2 a pin up. He's a good guy too.
Frick that Rule 34 tier bullshit, support a real indie comic
>https://zoop.gg/c/facelessandthefamily

Lent a few books out and my case covers a couple of books but here's my stuff!
>no Queen Emeraldas
Nice shelf.
I'm currently reorganizing mine. Plan to post them again before end of year, once I've made all my 2022 purchases. I just have one more planned.
TFW Target is having a buy two get one sale and I can find only one book I actually want.
Any graphic novels like Dark Souls?
So far I found Berserk to be the closest to the mood and aesthetic of DS.
That's probably because Demon's Souls and Dark Souls took major influences from Berserk.
GOD FRICKING DAMN IT THEY DELAYED ABSOLUTE MULTIVERSITY AGAIN
I'VE BEEN WAITING ON THIS BOOK FOR A YEAR NOW
at least it's certainly coming out
can't say the same about The Phantom Stranger Omnibus
when was it originally supposed to be released? July?
I think? Maybe even June, I can't remember anymore.
Whats some good manga that are only a few volumes or less for a complete story?
Pluto
Akira box set is pretty good.
Hellsing DLX is just 3 volumes, but I haven't read it so dunno about the quality.
Nausicaä boxed set, it's 2 big volumes and a complete story, art is gorgeous, binding is great and it's not as expensive as the Akira box.
Works by Taiyo Matsumoto's, Jiro Taniguchi, Shigeru Mizuki, Yoshiharu Tsuge, Kazuo Umezu
Seconding these
>Taiyo Matsumoto
>Jiro Taniguchi
>Yoshiharu Tsuge
thanks these seem great even if most are oop or not translated. Still something to hunt
Yoshihiro Tatsumi’a work
Based Matsumoto and Mizuki bros. Not uncommon opinions, but correct opinions.
Try some of these
>Summit of the Gods (5 volumes)
>2001 Nights (3 volumes)
>Strange Tale of Panorama Island (1 volume)
>A Distant Neighborhood (1 volume)
>The Sky Hawk (1 volume)
>Jiro Taniguchi
Nice
Did Marvel ever collect the Bill Everett Namor stuff in an affordable way? Most stuff I’ve seen starts with Silver Age stuff
They've been doing Marvel Golden Age omnibuses recently, that's probably your best bet
>Marvel Masterworks vol 47: Golden Age: Sub-Mariner Vol. 1
>Collects Sub-Mariner Comics #1-4, 280 pages
>Marvel Masterworks vol 81: Golden Age: Sub-Mariner Vol. 2
>Collects Sub-Mariner Comics #5-8, 280 pages
>Marvel Masterworks vol 128: Golden Age: Sub-Mariner Vol. 3
>Collects Sub-Mariner Comics #9-12, 240 pages
Those are probably OOP though.
There's also Atlas era stuff.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Masterworks
there is even an omnibus for the latter parts.
https://www.cheap-comics.com/shop/timelys-sub-mariner-everett-post-war-omnibus-hc-dm-var-oop/
and another HC collection:
https://www.cheap-comics.com/shop/timelys-greatest-golden-age-sub-mariner-by-everett-hc-dm-var/
ignore prices, I just use that site as reference.
i ran out of space on my shelf and now all these omnis are laying on my desk and night stand
i keep buying books too
i bought but haven't received from target yet
>Flintstones Deluxe
>Irredeemable Omnibus
>Incorruptible Omnibus
>2 Stepan Sejic Trades
Last books I need is the Daredevil Zdarsky HC Vol 3 and World of Black Hammer Vol 4
I've not even read the first 2 volumes I have but I'm autistic
Lastly I think I'm beginning to prefer trades over Omnibus
>i ran out of space on my shelf and now all these omnis are laying on my desk and night stand
heh welcome to the clu....> prefer trades over Omnibus
people like you make me sick. but yeah sometimes trying to read a goliath of a omni is a huge pain hence why i picked up a cheap amazon tablet
why don't you get a new shelf?
we're all gonna make it
Hope so
RIP Top Cow universe
Been slowly collecting the old Ultimate Marvel stuff. Have the first five Ultimate X-Men trades, Ultimates 2 V1 and V2, Ultimate Galactus Trilogy, and the last Millar Ultimate X-Men trade and the two Hickman Ultimates trades coming in the mail.
Are there any volumes/arcs of Ultimate Spider-Man worth picking up? Not interested in buying the whole series. Also, is Ultimate X-Men worth continuing after Millar leaves it? And what trades do I need to buy to fully get the "Ultimate Reed Richards Goes Evil" storyline?
With Ultimate Spider-Man, the first volume is the only good one even if it's an extended origin story. V2 is pretty dogshit (Bendis is in full anti-life mode as he spends the bulk of the Kingpin storyline having people tell Peter how evil Kingpin is, only to then have those same people immediately tell Peter "how the hell could you get Kingpin arrested!" while screeching that Kingpin, described as King Satan for the bulk of the story, suddenly is referenced in saintly terms and people worrying that WORSE people will take over as the new Kingpin of crime and the rest of it god-awful and full of padding and Bendis crapping on characters left and right.
As for X-Men; Bendis took over after Millar leaves. His first story is a god-awful Wolverine solo story and the second one has him mercilessly kill Beast off and cram in about a dozen new character debuts purely to keep from having Robert Kirkman introduce said characters and force him to have to acknowledge Bendis' run by taking Beast away from him and forcing him to deal with the fall-out.
Kirkman's run is decent for the most part, but there is some bullshit like his take on Longshot and having Dazzler get villified when Nightcrawler goes evil and kidnaps her and tries to make her his prisoner in the sewers.
But everything after Kirkman is garbage.
Should have waited and gotten the Millar omnibus for Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men. Especially since the regular trades are missing content (Ultimates 2 Annual and Ultimate X-Men #1/2 which was not included in the regular trades)
>Been slowly collecting the old Ultimate Marvel stuff.
Fricking idiot. None of it is worth buying.
?t=152
>Secret Warriors reprint
Finally! But now I wonder if we'll ever get Hickman's Shield stuff in any collected format. Maybe as backups to a Secret Wars Omni?
I'm just waiting for an actual 60s SHIELD reprint
hopefully with the Agents of Shield variant cover, for laughs
Wonderful
awesome news. I finally need to get that.
Has anyone else seen this? For the longest time vol 2 was given the ol "2082" release date but now it looks like they are planning on releasing a second volume, albeit now it's a paperback and not a hardcover. I'll take it but honestly my trust for DC's collected editions for anything pre-2000 is non-existent
Yeah, I saw it. I've been waiting for this for years, this must be the third time it's been sollicited.
Your favorite purchase of the year?
Complete Eightball. That's a lot of good comics in one book.
RIP Kevin O'Neill
Kevin O'Neill died?
RIP in peace
Big F to a legend
RIP
Now I'm obligated to get the whole LoEG series on my shelf
F
Frick you.
>tfw I am having back and forth internal debates in do I want the flashpoint Omni or the absolute Flashpoint
>tfw swamp thing 52 has an Omni but supergirl 52 doesn't.
Swamp Thing was written by Snyder and Charles Soule = big names. Supergirl had literally who writers.
why would you get the flashpoint absolute it doesnt have all the complete story and the omni can still be gotten for cheaper. and yeah thats DC for ya it blows my mind that we havent gotten any of the red lantern or sinestro omnis but we got 3 harley omnis. red lantern sold extremely well along with the trades going oop pretty fast but you know frick the fans right ;-;
Do the Starman Omnis collect everything or are there things missing?
They're missing good writing.
>hating on Starman
I bet you have a shelf full of Marvel omnis and Funko Pops.
no and no. I bet you are a homosexual.
That's actually the exact type of person I imagine when someone calls Starman a masterpiece.
ho ho ho ho ho I don't like James Robinson either
The end is near.
not before my drunna show up suppose to be here in 30mins
This arrived earlier than expected, but it will be ages before I get to it.
bump
They are finally here I have the full set now to look for the hc manara collection
degenerate
Anon let it go it’s Monday night
I'm in the middle of Volume 2 of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and my god, Moore really just does whatever he wants to do now the book's not being published by DC
he's got a fricking monster Rupert Bear (created by Dr Moreau) who gets his animalistic urges dealt with by a granny
ah, how wonderfully depraved
I know. It's great.
What's the best hardback release of Green Lantern Green Arrow?
absolute i guess
There is none. Buy the most recent softcovers, which has a Hal solo story Adams drew when Hal was stuck in cancellation back-up story status in Flash that the 90s reprints don't have.
The Absolute has production error issues with one issue having pages out of order. Which carried over to the Deluxe Hardcover edition due to DC blindly reusing the Absolute files to make the Deluxe Hardcover.
>The Absolute has production error issues with one issue having pages out of order.
Just two pages, it sucks, but not a huge deal in my opinion.
Fantagraphics gonna have a sale anytime soon?
I didn't know they had sales at all
I think last year around this time they had 30% off. For Halloween they had 30% off their spooky books.
neat
They always have for black friday/cyber monday with the latter having better deals
Dan Jurgens' run on Captain America, yay or nay?
Only decent issues was the last five-six issues where among other things, Cap finally finds Bucky's corpse and buries it while fighting Red Skull and freeing the SHIELD agents Skull brainwashed and kept prisoner for two years real time, after the M-Tech storyline in X-Men and his final issue, which is a silent month story where Cap and Absorbing Man fight over a necklace AM stole for his wife because they are dead fricking broke and she's become suicidal over it as far as her realizing she fricked up her life having Doom give her super powers and becoming a super villain.
Newest of pickups, not including a shelving unit I found in the basement a few weeks ago.
Used but looks to be in very good condition.
necro-bump, just because
You fricking madman anon, it's well past the weekend. /shelf/'s shelf life is shelved
I'm sorry
It's hard to let go.
>Ellis Moon Knight finally gets a reprint
>titles are cut out of each page leaving a blank panel in every issue
You think they will fix it or do I just grab it now assuming it will never be printed again
Where do you see this?
Panini press did it so it's Europe only for now
What the frick, that's such a massive, obvious blunder. How could you miss that?
Did you buy that?
No, it's not out yet.
At this point in life I'd rather buy a statue than an action figure.
Bingo bango couldn’t agree more a statue just looks better on shelf than any toy
What's the consensus on Locke and Key from Netflix?
It looks like his spine is coming out of his arm.

Any anons with chris ware stuff? any ware-heads? I'm greatly interested in the latest additions to the libraries of all ware-heads, it doesn't have to be chris ware but you must be a ware-head
I like his work well enough.
Last comic I bought was Jiro Taniguchi's Venice.
Looks very tasteful, would you recommend it?
Yes, it's pretty cool and has gorgeous art. A European travel book with Japanese feels.
What's the numbering gimmick about? I never looked into it.
I have the Quimby collection and Building Stories
You should get Detention #2 by Tim Hensley. I’m waiting for my copy
Still waiting for Building stories to really click for me beyond rummaging through it and looking at the pretty pictures which honestly feels like one of the intended levels of engagement
>Detention #2 by Tim Hensley
Looks cool
I've got Jimmy Corrigan and look forward to buying Rusty Brown at some point. These books are deceptively simple.
uk anons where's the cheapest place gonna be to a volstor storage and 15 toploaders?
Is it worth getting the rest of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen if I liked the first two volumes?
I've heard it kinda goes downhill
it's not that expensive to find out by yourself
Vol. 3 hardcover https://www.amazon.com/dp/0861662326
Vol. 4 hardcover https://www.amazon.com/dp/1603094563
Nemo Trilogy slipcase https://www.amazon.com/dp/1603093818
LoEG The Jubilee Edition (vol. 1-2 + Black Dossier) is so damn overpriced on the other hand.
Berserk vol 12 is already up on IST, weird.
It's supposed to come out on Dec 27, 2022 according to Amazon.
Dark Horse comics go up early on IST.
amazon release dates are very unreliable. Miracleman omni has been out for like 2 or 3 weeks and I won't get it till tomorrow.
I heard they had (or still have?) a policy of holdingv back books to actually give the other competitors a chance at all, but I am not sure if that was ever true.
Posters
the hell is that panel on the right?
It’s a famous Hulk page.
Your shelf is shit, stop spamming it on Cinemaphile
it's my shelf and someone else is spamming it, not my fault
Shut the frick up, it's a cool shelf and it's been posted not only by the owner, but by a few /shelf/bros as well.
How many League of Extraordinary Genltemen books are there, what's the reading order, and what's my cheapest and best option to get them?
You've got Volume I, Volume II, Black Dossier, Volume III: Century, Volume IV: Tempest and then the three Nemo books. In that order.
Volumes I and II are easily available in an "omnibus" which is really just a thick paperback.
I thought Tempest was the last book.
Well frick me, I got that wrong then.
Hey look what I got
dude, clean your cum-stained sheets
It'll dry off. It was raining out there you know.
that sheet isn't cleaned, it's full of hairs
I hope they're dog hairs or this homie balding
I'd coom on my sheets too if I had all that Clowes
Speaking of having a laugh at other anons expense. Do you guys remember that anon that had a porn star picture frame on his media shelf and you guys bully him off here………. I still get a chuckle off it whenever I think of it
Which porn star?
I thought it was an actual porn DVD he had? I don't remember him being bullied too bad for it. Some anons liked his taste (I think it was a spanking DVD).
>won't get my paycheck for a week
>this book is already gone from IST and CGN
>OPB have probably noticed that and increased the price by $5
well frick
I've missed FF: Full Circle, really hope it won't be the same with The Complete Eightball.
my Miracleman Omnibus was supposed to be delivered by amazon today, now it's back to
>Order received.
>We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date.
So they basically just noticed today that they don't have enough of them in stock.
it's such a shitshow but I got Pre-order price guarantee on it and it will only cost me €55. still frustrating as frick
>Pre-order price guarantee on it and it will only cost me €55
Where do you get such prices? I buy my Omnis at an average price of around 100€.
prices on amazon fluctuate pretty hard sometimes and usually go up steeply towards the actual release date, but usually they go down a lot at the start. preorder price guarantee basically means you get the lowest price since the date you ordered. I ordered in february, it went down to €55.44 at the lowest some time in march or april and that price guarantee thing means that's the price I will pay.
they actually fricked me over on the Flash by Waid omni though. I am regularly updating release dates and how much I have to pay for my pre-orders in order to not lose count and the price for that one is now higher than it was supposed to, but I am too lazy to complain since it's only a couple cents.
Oh. Amazon's weird for me. I can't always find items that are shipped around my parts. And then there are the taxes.
Amazon usually have good deals especially after something has been out for a while or just lucky pre-order prices, unfourtunalty it's usually your best option in euroland. Ordering from a comic shop you can usually get them for around 25% off if you pre-order them early enough, few other good bookstores in europe with decent prices but it depends where exactly you live as saving a tenner isn't much help when shipping costs that much
