Looking back, it's weird how so many people we're cool with shipping them early in the show's lifespan even if Finn had zero chance with either

      *shipping them with Finn

      Oh right
Was that something in Pendleton Ward's original show bible or was that established on the fly by the then current team?

Nothing about it in the show bible. It was one of those things they made up as they went along.

I've wondered when they developed the idea for PB being super old, because it's like an extension of the idea that her bioage isn't determined by her actual age, established in mortal recoil/too young. Also the fact she made her own uncle in that episode, raising the possibility that she had made other candy people. Knowing AT, different writers probably had their own ideas. But yes, definitely not in the original plan.

          >I've wondered when they developed the idea for PB being super old
Too Young seems to have been when it started percolating. Shortly after it aired, someone asked one of the crew online who ruled the Candy Kingdom before PB turned 18, and their response was something like, "The better question is how has she been 18."

It's implied he's with HW, but I don't think they'll outright confirm it. It'd be funny if they confirmed Fionna with Hunter but not Finn/HW.

Why not just straight up confirm it? Who gives a shit what happened on Obsidian, just say he was being hyperbolic or retcon that line about him being lonely for the rest of his life. I don’t get what the issue is.

Because then they'd have to show it, and showing Finn happy goes against their writing philosophy.

Muto doesn't want to give away too much of how Finn's life pans out because he wants it to remain a bit mysterious. Telling too much would dilute the impact of the original show ending. This is speculation, but I imagine he also feels that it's not his place to mess too much with Finn's story, and the work that all the old AT crew did with the original show. Not to mention the fans who have grown attached to certain ideas/interpretations over the years. He seems intent to trample as little as possible on the original show, which I can respect.

looking at adventure time as a whole, I find it hard to believe Muto believes that telling too much can dilute anything.

AT left a lot of room for the imagination. The line BMO gave in the finale about how Finn & Jake "just kept living their lives" was a summation of the show's writing philosophy. We only got glimpses into their world and it kept moving along whether we were there to witness it or not. The finale was supposed to the culmination of that idea. The world would just keep on moving even though the show ended.

You can tell the writers don’t even know what having new experiences and adventures is suppose to do to one’s character. It’s as if they decided to be apathetic towards Finn’s journey to inject their own musings on the pointlessness of it all.

AT died because fat lesbians don’t go out much.

Just pairing Finn up with her saves the audience the headache of dealing with relationship drama and PB and Marceline making Finn look like shit cause they have no other relevance to the storyline anymore.

The adventure won't even end if Finn ends up with HW since theyre both pretty adventurous to begin with.

Can AT writers even write such a thing without capitalizing on drama? Can they move the story along without PB and Marceline? They wholely have nothing to do with Finn and don't want anything to do with him. Their presence on the show is for literal cookie LGBT points.

Get AT back to world building.

Also give Finn more male friends. Would actually be cool. Adventures with the boys and all that jazz (ex lord of the rings, odyssey, maybe a mixed party like dnd, etc)

That pic makes no sense, Finn is a hero who's loved by a lot of other people like a bunch of other princesses, Jake, BMO, HW and his robot mom.
That's better than the useless FP, the same one that forces everyone in her kingdom to never lie and whose barely semblance of personality was reduced to unfunny cringe raps because none of the writers liked her

Adultxkid romance is normalcy? Finn's crush was cute because he was an innocent kid, but shipping him with pb/marcy always felt weird to me. I don't think people who shipped it are creeps (necessarily), because it's a cartoon, and I understand that people don't process that the same way they would in Live Action. The simple, cutesy, animation style creates a distance that makes it easier for people to apply a different set of moral standards. And sometimes, that is fine. E.g. We aren't supposed to view Finn getting FP to fight IK in Frost & Fire *as badly* as it actually would be IRL. The cartoon world of AT normalises violence, and the characters react accordingly. However, I think the excuse of it's a "fantasy cartoon not real life" is lame when concerning character relationships, because those were grounded with a realistic, emotional core. Using that excuse you could justify pairing Finn with Jake - talking dogs don't exist so we can't make any comparison to brothers irl hur dur. We wouldn't have a reason to give a shit if we couldn't perceive the humanity of the characters, even if they're talking dogs, sentient gum, robots or whatever. The /ss/gays I don't mind so much because at least they're honest. No bullshit about trying to justify the morality of an adult authority figure getting it on with a kid.

AT had a chance to world build into something grander but they blew it to teach kids about lesbians, then doubled down on making PB and Marceline semi main characters on a more than equal footing to Finn. Both of them were only necessary in the beginning because of either a friendly relationship or crush on the main. Now they're fricking useless. Ffs get rid of them if they don't want any ties to Finn. The story doesn't change without them around. They don't even have any adventures worth shit to talk about.

      AT writers are morons.
