Eh, I'd argue the Ice Crown specifically is potentially a god-tier weapon. Assuming they all have the same potential as Wintergreen's design, they have the ability to warp reality (even beyond their own universe, seemingly, with the Betty/GLOB stuff.) On top of that, Gunther essentially saw Wintergreen as an all-powerful Ice god from his perspective, so it would stand to reason that by 'becoming Wintergreen' it would unlock this tier of power for the user.
I like the idea that these cosmic beings aren't anticipating some random, crazed mortal having unlocked power that rivals their own and aren't prepared to deal with their chaos.

Oh for sure, the Ice Crown is on a whole other level. The Ice King spending a thousand years playing with Gunter in the snow is the "cosmic magic" equivalent of the tessaract sitting at the bottom of the ocean. All it would take is some lich-level entity killing Simon and stealing the crown's power and all of reality would be fucked.
If I got the adventure time lore right, Prismo can't even mess with the crown because it donks up his magic. It even messed with GOLB (turning him into Golbetty with a wish) and oneshot Scarab.
So powerscaling would probably be:
Ice King's Magic Crown > GOLB > Prismo the wish master >= Scarab > Lich King > everything else
The crown is really more on par with GOLB, maybe a bit below, able to effect but not outright defeat. Betty isn't able to wish GOLD to not exist or even to just go away. She can only alter GOLB and even then to an unknown degree. Possibly all that really happened was Betty was fused with GOLB making him no longer purely a cosmic force and to now have some level of conscious autonomy.
This new show sucks ass btw. Even the bits that don't suck ass are just off.

They implied that if Simon got the crown back he'd be powerful enough to fight Scarab, so I guess it is following that logic. The Winter King in general seemed a lot more powerful and in control of his ice compared to the original Ice King however.
Scorcher was made of fire, which gave him a pretty significant advantage.
The crown is a big deal and is associated with other cosmic shit. No reason it shouldn't job the scarab. Your job can be leader of a nation and you can still get mauled by a bear or hit by a car. Scarab is an enforcer so you would expect a little hustle from him - but he's a hitman, an assassin, not some big name brawler. IK jobbing him is fine by me.

Fionna turned the crown into a normal non-magical crown, which is why the curse went away and why the Winter King's crown became useless. It's foreshadowed in Cake's episode when Cake turned a hotdog knight to a regular hotdog.

The show literally hasn't ended yet we don't know what the message will be. It isn't unusual for a character to have the wrong idea at the start of a show that they change into a better one, that's called character progression.

2: The crown strangely fused with Gunter/Orgalorg's head when he made the wish, the gems making up his eyes as the Ice Thing. So we don't know if it can be removed or not, likely cannot.

Ice King didn’t deserve to unexist for the sake of Simon’s “normalcy”. Ice King was his own person making his own progress and it’s all lost and you see him as a sickness.
Perhaps consider the message that you should embrace change and growth instead of clinging to the distant past? The old world is dead. Maybe Simon should be too.
Or maybe also consider that not everything needs a wholesome message and maybe a story can just be about someone willing to destroy themselves and throw away their lives for something, or at some point there’s just no hope for some people. A good ol tragedy.

I'm more playing devil's advocate, Winter King was for sure messed up, I just meant maybe he was doing as much good if not more than PB. I mean, we got no indication of the lich (not that we needed to, but I like to imagine he was able to neutralize the lich like he did scarab)
He's sort of like PB in that he's sketchy as fuck but in order to keep peace and safety for his citizens. I haven't finished the episode yet since I am waiting for Mega to let me keep watching but I guess Ice King turning PB crazy is sort of equivalent to how Gumbald turned stupid with the dum-dum juice, although PB wasn't intending on turning him stupid it was just an accident she didn't know how to reverse. So it depends on if Winter King explicitly knew he was dooming PB to insanity or not, if he did then he's arguably worse than PB.
The difference is that his citizens might not all be ‘real’, based on ice child Marcy he kept around.

The ice king transfered his madness into PB, and it was the reason he was able to stay sane for 100 years. It was a deliberate decision.
Yeah that's what my guess was as soon as he mentioned being able to overcome the madness and how the PB of that universe was crazy. So yeah, I'd say he is evil-er than PB overall. Outside of maybe killing all those Rattleball bots, depends on how much you consider battle robots people or not.
It's implied he explicitly kept the curse on PB even while sane. He also didn't seem to be looking for an alternative and just assumed she'd stay "harmless" forever. While he did a lot of good, it's important to keep in mind he disregarded others to further his own self-interests and was narcissistic enough to enjoy PB's crazed adoration while fully knowing she was under his curse.
Winter King was an asshole for projecting his madness to PB, but he had some grace to not outright imprison her or murder her subjects. PB on the other hand gave no fucks about him or his subjects dying which is a fair verdict considering what she'd gone through.
Can we have more crazy PB? Her design makes me feel a certain way that I like, also more Simon/Fionna

Oh god I just realized that if Candy Queen had gotten what she wanted, what came out would have been like the ending of Netflix Castlevania, with Dracula and his wife trapped in a homonculus body.

I felt bad for candy queen in this scene. Especially since winter king told fionna to knock her out despite knowing what he did to her.
I imagine it's something to do with what curse that crown puts him under. It's loose but looking at original Ice King's obsession with princesses, if he ever found one he could've died the same way as the curse was lifted. Of course, the only princess for IK is Betty who WK seems to have had a different past with. That could easily just be when he lifted the curse by passing it to PB he also removed those feelings. None of this really makes sense of course since the crown's curse is just the aftermath of its original wish, which had absolutely nothing to do with princesses whatsoever.
The writers are probably just hacks.

You're right lol Ice King's obsession with princesess comes from Betty, it doesn't make sense for Winter King's madness to be also an obsession with a princess.
I didn't get the impression that Winter King had a different past with Betty, his song showed that everything was the same up until Ice King just one day willed the crown's curse to transfer to PB. I think he simply just grew not to care or it was also an effect of transferring the curse, also Ice King didn't care much about Betty in the main universe either.

I imagine that because that simon never really got with Betty, he likely didn't have enough human connection and so didn't end up taking care of kid marceline correctly. Maybe she died from the "chicken soup" bit, maybe he accidentally killed her with ice magic back then.
My headcannon is all the betty stuff was actually the same, but by moving the curse to PB he also lost that emotional connection to her.
Ice Marceline is probably just something the writers thought would be neat and oh so emotional when she died.

I think this show proves that the original Adventure Time should have at least had 22 minute runtimes for its story heavy episodes, the pacing in Fionna and Cake is so much better whereas AT tended to feel abrupt and rushed

I think the problem is that she was a simple character originally, and all that extra stuff was stapled onto her like trying to turn a coatrack into a functional car. I'm not saying you CAN'T attach wheels and an engine and such onto a coatrack, it just comes across as foolish because it wasn't designed for that. She was originally just The Candy Princess, Princess Bubblegum, Leader Of The Candy Kingdom, for generic princess shenanigans, and then Lore and Backstory and Events had to happen and she comes across as somewhat disjointed. Jokes became canon became lore and now she's... weird. Candy Queen is a new take, and I like her a lot more because she seems like something that has more "slots" available for cool stories.

So in theory, if one person where to return the crown to it's primal wishing state, one could wish himself to be as powerful (or near) as Golb.

Winter King died because of aging. Just like in the Betty episode, where Simon said the crown kept him alive for so long.
Simon wielding the crown for just an hour, and Fionna kissing him to nullifying the crown wouldn't kill him. Since in GOLB, all of the magical layers were stripped, and turning IK into default Simon. Not unless, Fionna's kiss would interfere with Betty's wish. Actually that's one possibility I haven't thought about, would Fionna's anti-magic affect Betty's Wish.

If Marceline did die in the Winter King universe then it's thematically fitting that it was specifically Princess Bubblegum for whom the crown's curse was transferred to, since she would have also lost her (ex although they still had a lot of baggage) lover that time ala Simon and Betty. It was also implied that Gunther became the Ice King because he lost Turtle Princess too.
If Marcy died young as is sort of implied then they never would have met or become exes.
I don't think she died young, WK says he's broken the crown's hold for a hundred years (the song shows he was once also classic Ice King) and Ice Marcy has the guitar, which Marceline only got from Hunson years after her initial time with Simon

It was pretty bad when they were giving the exposition for who the final big bad guy was in the same episode he was properly introduced. GOLB needed more build up outside of the end of Puhoy cameo and the random mention by the Lich.

It was gonna focus on Gumbald and Mole people (?) apparently. Then they had to drastically rework it into the finale when CN told them that was it. Considering the circumstances, they did a good job imo.

Sure, some people in the past have connected to Marcy and Ice King's dynamic in regards to family members having things like Dementia, and the writers may have also drawn from personal experience, but at the end of the day its a magic curse in a fantasy show and that's how it will always be. Having some allegorical similarity doesn't mean that Ice King is locked into being a dementia metaphor for his entire identity.
