I use to cry at the "I'm the king of the world" scene. Something so magical about the whole sequence.

On rewatch I appreciate how abruptly it just ends. Jack dies, Old Rose says he left no trace except her memories of him, she remembers him and dies, The End. A modern movie would have a stupid, drawn out epilogue showing Rose coping and moving on.

You should see the original ending Cameron shot but later cut, it's awful. Rose was originally supposed to have a confrontation with her granddaughter and Bill Paxton on the bow of the ship where she dramatically drops the necklace into the water saying SOME THINGS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY while Bill screams NOOOOOO

I love every deleted scene. So much charm and character. It's like getting the LotR extended editions for Titanic.

My opinion as a kid until I saw it again during the imax rerelease in the early 10s. Cameron was far from being my favorite as a kid but every time I rewatch one of his films there’s a one of a kind level of elaborate artistry that I just can’t help but appreciate. He’s like if you made a Frankenstein monster that was half Kubrick and half Walt Disney. Tailor made to be under appreciated by intelligentsia types (just like Kubrick was for half of his films, btw) and loved by those with eyes and human hearts. 9.5/10

Cameron had a talent for appealing to normies with the obligatory Hollywood clichés while simultaneously going full autist with his portayal of the ship and most of the historical facts. It was truly lightning in a bottle

Getting fox to pay for his autistic dive to see the Titanic irl by pretending he needed to shoot it for the movie was peak auteur

The original VHS and DVD releases were split across two tapes/discs with part 2 picking up right before the iceberg collision. I wore the frick out that second tape and the first was virtually pristine.

Millenial here. I wonder if zoomers have ever witnessed a fully packed theater, 2/3rds of them females. In the starting weeks it was even oversold, so over-enthousiastic teens would be sitting on the stairs too.
The place would be gushing with chick tears and feromones around the ending parts. Constant sniffles and pent-up cries.
Cameroon made the best date movie in modern history.

Pisses me off too. Same with Bay and his gay ass Transformers instead making classics like The Rock and Armageddon, though even he changes scenery once in a while. I can't put my contempt for Avatar into words. He's pretty much dead to me.
