Palomar used to be my favorite part of those comics
what the frick happened to Gilbert? his comics turned to fricking trash afret adding Fritz, its just a bunch of weird fetishes without any substance

Xaime is still going great and I like old maggie and hopey, but man, I miss old Palomar stories

A Marvel and DC comic page is 1,988 by 3,057 pixels, or 6,077,316 pixels.

Each pixel may take a on of 256^3 = 16,777,216 different colors.

So a page is limited to 101,960,443,232,256 possible pixel combinations.

And the average comic is around 24 pages, which means the number of possibilities (even accounting for the nonsensical ones) is 2.47 quadrillion.

    Large? Depends on the context.

    Infinite? Nope.

That's a thousand times worse than the callus on my middle finger, which was half an inch thick and the width of a dime when I was in art school and drawing several hours a day, every day of the week. I might hold my pencils in my palm for special shading effects on occasion, but that is one super fricked up grip.

        No.

        >A Rubiks cube has like 40 quintillion combinations.
Yes, but that's due to the number of action...you know take a course in group theory and come back to me.

You're just multiplying the number of pixels by the number of colors. That's not how you get permutations of a grid.

      It's 16777216^6077316 not 16777216*6077316

      Think of it like this.

2 pixels: For each color of the 1st pixel the 2nd pixel can take 16777216 values, so 16777216*16777216 or 16777216^2.

The factorial has no role here.

Think of it in simpler values. Let's say there are 3 colors (red, green, blue)

            1 pixel = [r], [g] or [b] = 3
            2 pixels = [r,r], [r,g], [r,b], [g,r], [g,g], [g,b], [b,r]. [b,g], [b,b] = 3^2
            3 pixels = [r,r,r], [r,r,g], [r,r,b], [r,g,r], [r,g,g], [r,g,b], [r,b,r], [r,b,g], [r,b,b], [g,r,r], [g,r,g], [g,r,b], [g,g,r], [g,g,g], [g,g,b], [g,b,r], [g,b,g], [g,b,b], [b,r,r], [b,r,g], [b,r,b], [b,g,r], [b,g,g], [b,g,b], [b,b,r], [b,b,g], [b,b,b] = 3^3 = 27

Two Love and Rockets threads at the same time, when there hasn't been a single one in probably over a year, is kind of fishy.

Wrong. I can think of 2.48 quadrillion variations of functional comic book pages right now that I havent seen before, and I'm just a normal guy.

I appreciate the math, but why are you assuming pixels for a physical medium? You could have way more colors and details, not to mention thinks like type of ink used, depth of the material, etc.

what does that math has to do with the content? Its not like you can get to those "combinations" by running random results, someone has to imagine that shit

I can randomly pick a manga from any read manga online website and it has more aesthetically pleasing art. People trying to hawk western indie comics for not being capeshit generally don't get how much of an appeal the art is. This doesn't look appealing. Twitter artists draw better boobs and more exciting art.
