What comes close bros? Breaking Bad didn’t, Dexter sure as hell didn’t, what else is as good as this show?

breaking bad and the shield were the only two which did it for me, but both are different from sopranos where they're basically GTA lite but they have comfy crew dynamics like in sopranos and comfy depression moments. also mad men fucking sucked and im tired of pretending it didn't.
also i'll add breaking bad gets to sopranos levels on rewatch, not the first watch, on rewatch you don't have to pay attention the plot and jesse and can instead focus on the kino side characters and comedy.
>breaking bad gets to sopranos levels on rewatch
it has its moments but overall BB is pretty shallow and never delivers on it's flirting with ambiguity.
yeah it's shallow but that's what makes it fun, see
yeah mad men was awful
>Mad Men sucked
>But I hecking loved Breaking Bad
I liked BB too, but it's McDonalds compared to the gourmet meal that is Mad Men. You got filtered, it happens.
>is that a woman being oppressed or struggling to climb the heckin patriarchal corporate ladder?!
Its bordering on a Netflix original. Don is kino. Pete is kino. That's about it.
>BB is macdonalds
yeah, so? sopranos is a big juicy steak with mushroom and peppercorn sauce, but sometimes i crave a fat greasy burger instead. both taste good and both are my favourite. mad men is like a vegan meal.
Try Boardwalk Empire. Nothing will fill that whole though. Sorry.
Is it any good?
yeah but it's set in the 1920s so you probably wont like it
I go Sopranos, TNG, DS9, Farscape, B5, BSG and then I open up my little sisters Amazon prime and check if there's anything at all, like James May in Japan/Italy for example, and then I go back to Sopranos. I do this every month and every year.
so confused
>TNG
commie utopian dogshit, switch it in for TOS and you've got a pretty based list
please translate it for me
here are retards that unironically only watch shows and movies that might allign with their political views. You guys are so cucked it is unbelievable.
I'm the same. Actually just watched it for the first time this year. Gonna say fuck it and just rewatch it because nothing comes close
watch it with someone, that’s the only way i can relive the show like the first time, vicariously through others
The only person I could watch it with is my girlfriene and like all girls she's dumb
The Wire is the only thing to come close in terms of quality
It completely shit the bed with season 6. The Wire at least stayed consistent.
season 6 was the best season and redeemed the show after season 5 (which was kinda shit). it had the two best moments in the show which were bobby shooting the rapper in the ass and kevin finnerty contemplating calling his family
Sopranos sucks.
It's not hugely similar but Patrick Melrose was the TV thing that most impressed me since The Sopranos went off the air. It helps if you go into it knowing nothing.
Mad Men comes quite close, arguably closer than Breaking Bad, despite the latter's enormous popularity compared to the former.
mad men sucked see
and
Mad Men was extremely popular, and still is, what the fuck are you talking about?
Do you know what "compared to" means?
think "chasing it" (S6E16) might actually be the worst episode despite it being in a top-tier season. we get tension about whether or not tony will kill hesh when we know he'd never do that over a measly debt. hesh has to deal with the death of renalda. AJ gets dumped by blanca at the puerto rican day parade. we get a lot of tony losing of course. there are some really sad gross scenes regarding vito jr. only positives i can recall are
>all the guys thinking nancy sinatra is hot despite her being old at frank's boss induction party
>the "smoosh baby" slow-mo when swelligot comes from behind to beat meadow gold by a nose
>"cavatina" the theme from deer hunter playing when AJ proposes to blanca foreshadowing it won't go well
meant phil's induction party of course me oh my
oh dear god, forgot about the sinatra chick, that was cringe, but no, the black record producer/rapper was the worst episode, along with possibly the pilot due to it creating a ton of continuity errors and plot holes if you don’t disregard it as non-canon
i like the pilot and i liked that episode
tbh i can't think of any episode i think is actually bad, though i prefer the early sopranos to late, s5-s6 are really depressing
The Kevin Finnerty episodes are bad, dream sequences are just a waste of time.
>muh spooky house that represents hell.
I always skip that stuff, I expect that most people do.
ik this is b8 but the kevin finnerty stuff is the catalyst of every plot point in the show
>the house represented hell
not even close kek
>the catalyst of every plot point in the show
It happens in season 6, quite near the end, so how the fuck can it be the catalyst for the whole show. Do think that a catalyst is something that happens AFTER an event?
... bro fuck off im high as shit, im a retard yes but all my points stand
Join the Club is the best episode of the entire show, gay.
The house represents his childhood. He says he's not ready to go home, and won't give Chris his briefcase (let go).
What do werewolves represent?
Either one of these two or 'Christopher', which was stupid.
i liked christopher, i don't see the big deal with it
the only thing about it that's weird is that paulie couldn't shoot for that episode so they gave his part to silvio which doesn't make a lot of sense for his character
tbh i feel silvio is probably the worst character in the show, he's always doing stuff out of character, it's like they keep him around and whenever an actor can't make it or there's something that needs to happen and it doesn't make sense for anyone else they give it to sil
Deadwood
god damn i hated breaking bad so much because of all these annoying characters.
Accept it that nothing comes close to sopranos and we can be grateful that we even have it.
Thank god it was over before clown world cane along
Breaking Bad is like a fucking cartoon compared to Sopranos.
Carnivale but you'll have blue balls
Should have included this. HBO fucked that up too. Throw Chernobyl in too.
First season of True Detective. First season of Westworld. First four seasons of GOT. First two seasons of the Wire. All of Deadwood.
i prefer season 2 of true detective. The first season is too pseudo intellectual for all these gays that compare themselves to Rust.
That's not really the show's fault. It is a great story with excellent atmosphere, pacing, and acting. It's probably one of the best seasons of tv ever made
Better them than contrarian gays like you who pretend to like objectively inferior things because you think it makes you seem interesting.
forgot to add first season of Naruto
Spongebob
the first 3 seasons are GOAT
discord was a mistake, children cartoons should not be consumed by adults PERIOD
based
cringe
nothing will come close to the sopranos for a long time because it was lightning in a bottle
it turned out gandolfini was one of the greatest leads of all time, everyone on the team from the writers and the directors were phenomenal, and there were still enough wiseguys alive and breathing that could participate and give it an air of authenticity, not to mention that many of the actors and writers grew up in neighborhoods immersed in this culture
this kind of work of art comes maybe once in a lifetime, be happy you got to see it
Yean, they're almost all dead now. Press F
Adventure Time. Unironically.
>Reddit time
Something that really impressed me about this show is how accurately it portrays how mobsters act. Not just dialogue or whatever, but their personalities and decision making, the things they like, their emotional lives. The charscters are all perfect archetypes of people I know, with the main guy being pretty much Tony 1:1. I’m from Western Europe so I’m not referring to my experiences with the Italian mob (have only met a few of those guys once), and zero with the Italo-Americans, but it’s still shockingly accurate.
The Wire anon
1. Sopranos
2. The shield
3. Justified
4. Breaking bad
5. The wire
I'm watching Oz right now and it's a great show. Not as good as The Sopranos, but I'm enjoying this rewatch more than I remember originally enjoying the show (I think it's the third time I've seen Oz but it's been many years since I last saw it)
Oz is great but pretty different from sopranos.
The Sopranos is much better because it takes an intense focus on one or a few issues, and it takes its time in developing those storylines. Oz is pretty schizophrenic, it jumps around and features a much wider base of main characters. The main character of Oz is typically seen as Beecher, but he has only slightly more screentime than like 5 other characters. Tony is dominant in The Sopranos, Gandolfini is the only actor that's in every single episode, and he is rarely not the main character
Ox is much better at pushing creative, thematic, and artistic boundaries in media. Some of the sopranos dreams do at times fall flat but everything else is top notch
only options are the wire, mad men, and true detective (season 1)
Their podcast is pretty comfy. Just talking about life, sex, the world...
>37
Worst case of baby face I've ever seen.
Terrible podcast too.
Yet you still watch the shittube crap and can't explain yourself. That's sad brah.
Go jump in the pool
meadow aged like fucking shit
Not everything needs to be le gritty HBO drama series. I'm currently rewatching Stargate SG-1 and enjoying it every bit as much as The Sopranos. Accept that things can be great in their own way instead of trying to watch the same show over and over again.
Very true
I'm too scared to watch The Sopranos because I don't think it could ever live up to the hype based on what I've read and heard about it over the years. It's like how New Vegas is a great game, but it's been memed to the moon and back as some kind of life changing experience, and everyone who's heard about its reputation is doomed to disappointment if they ever try it.
people lose their shit over it because its one of a very small number of shows that sits the viewer down and explains everything as it happens.
>explains everything as it happens
this applies to the mobshit aspect of the show, which is secondary to the actual plot about a supernatural war between good and evil
Rome
Hail Rome, check out this one, Titus.
That's a nasty ass bloody movie.
Its also a good yet underrated play from Shakespear. Everyone should read it, it is a short one. Shake's really gets into it instead of pussy footing about like romeo and juliet.
the closest thing is Mad Men, which is unsurprising, considering its creator was a writer and producer on S5&6 of Sopranos. Boardwalk Empire was created by another one of the writer's and the first couple of seasons are solid, but it's more story-oriented and lacks that meditativeness that Sopranos has, which MM has in spades
i did not care very much for sopranos
