forgotten love interest

Does anyone get upset when a love interest only appears once and then the show forgets they exist?

The Simpsons dropped the ball with Gina Vendetti. Especially at the end of the episode where Marge said they'd have dinner with her in prison often (That went nowhere)

A lot of shows do this with some celebrity, them seem surprised the celebrity wants money to keep coming back for years. If it isn't a regular cast member voicing a love interest, it's doomed from the start.

I don't know if LI is the word I'd use for this character creation (Platonic love?), but that would explain why we never saw Sugilite again in Steven Universe. That characters price tag must had been high af.

They directly commented on that when Sardonyx was interviewing Smoky Quartz, and they used a voice clip from Sugilite's episode.

        >"She's not actually IN this episode, do we still have to pay her? ...We do?"

And they did, Maya is the midget he dated years ago and recently they brought her back and they got married, but she hasn't been referenced at all since

        >but she hasn't been referenced at all since
When did they get married? Recently or like seasons ago?

Actually, they're still engaged. They haven't done the wedding yet even though it's been like two years.

SU casting high profile people for voice acting was a mistake. Great for quality acting and singing, really really bad if you wanted certain characters to show up again or even to use them in flashbacks/recaps.

Then recast the role. Plenty of shows do it. They'd get a celebrity voice the character in their first appearance, and recast them with an actual VA for subsequent episodes.

Family Guy had it right all the way back in Season 3 with Sam. I wish this stayed canon, but that would had stopped the writers from turning Chris into a weird sex freak whenever it's convenient.

No. Because I'm not an autistic moronic who turns to the simpsons for shipping bullshit. Frick you.

Because that's how Simpsons operate. They refuse to take risks and introduce something new to the show. It's been like 30+ years and the formula hasn't changed a bit
When was the last time something changed in the Simpsons? And I mean to a main or secondary character, not one off or background characters. I'm not going to count Edna or Maude, since that was influenced by BTS and
VA's death. So many things were introduced and instantly dropped. Ironically, the biggest change was Ned and Edna's marriage, which was dropped due to her VA's death.
Like at this point, have the kids move up a grade. Give Moe a girlfriend already. Have grandpa die and create a big moment (that wasn't the biggest fricking tease, where they had that special episode hinting that he'd die). Do literally anything

I haven't watched the series since... the season before they did the stranger things Halloween parody. I remember because I told myself I'll stop watching Simpsons and only watch the Halloween special, and one Halloween Special later, I dropped the show completely. So I wouldn't know how the recent seasons
But what I meant was, give her a permanent girlfriend. I'm aware he had multiple girlfriends in the past.

She still gets used occasionally, she's in the latest season pretty much. I get the feeling her and CBG are the new Apu and Manjula since they don't use those two anymore but still want to tell married couple stories that aren't Homer and Marge.

I would've gone with that Asian kid Selma adopted. She made a cameo in one of the later seasons but that's it

I get the feeling they just didn't bother trying to come up with interesting plots with that character since they already had Maggie for baby related stories, and baby related stories aren't that common to begin with.

Didn't Moe marry that midget girl a while ago? We haven't seen her since

Dated her, they worked well but then broke up at the end of the episode for dumb status quo reasons, but they brought her back recently in an odd episode where she felt a little out of character from how she was established in her original episode but they've at least made it so the two are engaged now since I don't think fans liked Moe getting screwed out of a relationship for a BS reason. Still haven't done anything with the two of them since then.

It's been ~14 years since Miles intro and he still doesn't have a leg to stand on.
They just keep throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.
It's really disheartening to see when other, superior characters have been binned in that time and it's preposterous when you consider that Pete's basically been coasting off his first 10 years. That's when nearly all the important shit was introduced for Pete and almost everything after that was diminishing returns (Venom being a stand out). But Miles has nothing in his first decade+ and it's not likely he'll suddenly get the development he should have been getting.

Lucy has a whole episode about a crush. It's even the episode where she has the blonde hair to impress him. Turns out he like her for her (specifically the two bond over making fake blood)

Unfortunately this was under Chris Savino, and it seems Rocky been blipped out of the universe. Rusty has an episode about his dad and the family business and still no mention of his brother. They also retcon Lucy to have a crush on generic goth boy.

Girl of the week is the absolute shittiest storytelling trope because it basically exists to give someone a nice story/chemistry with a character who will never be seen again. It's especially bad when the character isn't seen again for any good reason.

Pic related is maybe one of the worst examples of it because her and Bobby are straight up still dating at the end of the episode and the "celebrity VA" excuse doesn't hold water because they other celebrity characters continued to be voiced by regular cast members/normal VAs (Roger going from Chris Rock to Phil LaMarr for instance). They did the same thing with Bill and Laoma and Laoma wasn't even voiced by a celebrity but someone who had already done other voices on the show.

They do this every time Peter and MJ aren't together. When she left in Wolfman's run he got bounced around between Black Cat, Debra Whitman, Marcie Kane, there was tease stuff with Joy Mercado and I might even be forgetting one or two. Jill went from support character to love interest when they tried to kill of MJ after the Clone Saga.

Then you have the last 15ish years where Peter is given a new love interest or girlfriend every year or two and during the Brain Trust era literally every goddamn writer of the main ones (guys like Gale and FVL were only spot writers) had their own pet waifu. Slott had Carlie, Waid had Michelle Gonzalez, Kelly had Norah.
