Both sides wipe each other out. Aegon has his dragon eat Rhaenyra, but House Stark lays siege to King's Landing and Aegon is poisoned by his own men as the city falls. Rhaenyra's bloodline lives on, but Aegon II is seen by the history books as the legitimate ruler and Rhaenyra as the usurper. No one really wins.

Green, the main reason being the characters are just more interesting other than Daemon. But I also think everything is Viserys fault, he should have legitimatised Rhaenrya after Aegon was born if he still wanted her as the heir. Which to be fair I think he did genuinely want her as the heir, but he should have made the effort to solidify that after he had a son.

I'm on team "Viserys was a fricking moron." Imagine trying to overturn 100 years of precedent (the precedent that got you elected as king) just cause you like your daughter. Hell, if he wanted to keep her as heir, he should have listened to Otto and married Rhaenyra to Aegon.

Not in the slightest. Just because her horribly ill moron father named her his heir doesn't mean the realm is going to ignore the precedent of male only primogeniture. Moreover, no one wants a fat prostitute for a queen.

Team Green, because feminists mutts and troonys support the Blacks. The Truth is of course that every dead Targshit is a cause to celebrate

      Anonymous

      >Rhaenyra obviously had the more right claim
Her claim is extremely weak. It already started on very shaky ground (Aegon's claim rests on the same succession logic that placed Viserys on the throne, Rhaenyra was named heir only before the king had male children, the biggest reason why Rhaenyra got named heir was to keep Daemon away but then she married Daemon, etc) but she kept weakening it over and over, and she completely destroyed her claim when she named Jace her heir. Plotting to put unrecognized bastards on the Throne is high treason, everyone knows this, she knows this, Viserys knows this, that's why he cuts out the tongue of anyone who dares speak the truth, because admitting it would destroy Rhaenyra.
Aegon is a drunken sad homosexual but from the moment Rhaenyra named Jace her heir, Aegon's claim skyrocketed in validity above Rhaenyra's.

        Anonymous

Honestly the bastards destroyed her claim. If she'd had trueborn children with Laenor (or even fricked a guy with Valyrian looks) people would have been much more accepting. Hell, I bet people would support her more if she'd named little Aegon her heir.

        Anonymous

thats fair but also it was Viserys call to make

          Anonymous

Viserys naming Rhaenyra heir made sense at first because a) he had no wife and no other children b) Daemon had to be kept from power c) Rhaenyra still had time to go from "I just wanna have fun and eat cake" to a competent ruler.

All three of these things fell apart though. Soon enough Viserys remarried and had male children, who by law succeed the throne before females do. Then Rhaenyra and Daemon got together, which renders the whole "appoint Rhaenyra to remove Daemon" logic pointles, and then Rhaenyra proved to everyone she has 0 interest in being a competent ruler. The cherry on top to seal the deal was naming a bastard as heir to the throne.

Viserys' call initially made perfect sense but only initially. By the time of episode 6 his judgment is completely compromised. This is made evident in the source material when he's cutting out tongues of people who question Rhaenyra and he cuts himself on the throne so badly it kills him. Which in GRRM language has always meant the Throne rejecting an idiotic or bad ruler, but the show omitted this.

I follow my House: Team Black 4 Life

      Anonymous

Regardless of book accuracy or who was right/wrong, it's pretty clear the show wants you to root for the Blacks.

They're the passionate side that revels in brazenly breaking taboos, they follow the might makes right doctrine of threatening to nuke anyone who opposes them, they marry for love despite society judging them, they seemingly champion more modern values, seemingly feminist leader, etc. They enjoy defying all the boring rules imposed on them - this last one is especially popular with young people who still see rules & obligations as annoying obstructions against freedom & desires. They also represent the Targaryen ubermensch thing, and viewers secretly love that and want other families to stay in their lanes. Otto trying to marry into the Targ bloodline is seen as overstepping because he's a non-Targ plebian without magical traits. This isn't often verbalized because viewers think they'll be labeled as nazis, but it's definitely going on.

The show Greens don't have Targ purity, they're not defiant brave rebels, they don't have free love. They gain their advantages through politicking and reading the fine print. Their religion isn't cool or punk, it's basic. They're the conservative sticklers for the rules who want you to get punished for getting caught lying. To a modern viewer, those are all unattractive and unfun traits. To them the Greens and everything they stand are like a pedantic old lady at the bank who resentfully yells at you for not filling out your financial paperwork properly, while the Blacks are the "we're too cool for school those who hates do it because they ain't us" faction.

Overall I'm post-ironically rooting for the Greens due to meta knowledge of the writer's annoying biases, and due to their refusals to maintain nuance. And although the Greens are the bad guys, they're acting out a policy with a better outcome for the long term political stability of Westeros than what the Black are doing.

        >Overall I'm post-ironically rooting for the Greens due to meta knowledge of the writer's annoying biases, and due to their refusals to maintain nuance.
The pro-Black bias of the show is sure egregious, and is more than enough to make me a Green as well. I read Fire and Blood though, and was a Green when I read that. Rhaenyra in the book just comes off as a spoiled brat who sleeps around and doesn't understand the consequences of her actions or that she has a serious duty as Princess. The book prepares the reader to see Rhaenyra this way with its tales of Jaehaerys' daughters being dumb, spoiled bawds.
        >The Greens are acting out a policy with a better outcome for the long term political stability of Westeros than what the Black are doing.
Bastards being in line for the throne was the main cause of the Dying of the Dragons. Since all three of Rhaenyra's bastards die, I see the war as ultimately being a Green victory.

Just finished reading Fire and Blood. The Dance of the Dragons in the books was kino, but I'm worried for the adaption going forward into S2+. Mainly how the show will adapt its female characters going forward, most of all Nettles. Reading the book, I didn't freak out that one of the four dragonseeds was a black girl. Shit, I didn't even care when Nettles and Daemon fell in love or how she was a great dragon rider and an exceptionally moral person. I'm worried though that the HOTD showrunners are going to turn her into a girlboss and a quippy badass who always comes out on top.
I'm also worried that they will continue to make Rhaenyra a character that the Burlington Bar b***hes can cheer for.

        Nettle has been cut

Nettles isn’t in the show. Rhaena will be sheepstealers rider instead.

Really? Lmao. Was it because the Velaryons are already black? That means that a Hollywood decision to blackwash characters led to a situation in which they had to remove a strong woman of color from the adaptation who was in the book.
Does this mean that Daemon is going to plow his own daughter?

Yes, that’s the gist of what people are saying. That they would have preferred the velaryons to be white if it meant having the actual black character adapted.

Because the strong WOC is a princess and not a commoner. So it's ok. The important part is that it's a WOC. Here's the thing about wokeshitters. They don't care about REAL diversity i.e diversity of opinion, experience, or class. They are dullards who view the world like it's a Benneton ad.

In HotD diversity means diversity in the "real world". Nettles was cut because they already hit their quota of black female dragonriders. But that's not the point of Nettles. Nettles exists to question Valyrian supremacy. She's a commoner (real diversity in Westeros), an outsider who tamed a dragon with smarts rather than blood. It obvious that Condal and Hess fundamentally do not understand GRRM's story. Cutting Nettles and giving her story to a born and bred princess ruins the spirt of ASOIAF. They are dull and senseless writers.

Apparently they are giving the “poor” background of nettles character to Addam, he’s going to speak in a lower class accent and all.

Having Rhaena take Nettle's role will screw up a bunch of the plot. In the book, Rhaena and Baela both survive to the end of the Dance, with Rhaena spending most of the war in the Vale with her tiny shoulder dragon. If Rhaena is now Nettles, then she either is going to have to die or flee across the Narrow Sea. Remember, what happened to Nettles is the reason that Daemon breaks with Rhaenyra and goes on a suicide mission to Harrenhal. If Nettles/Rhaena is still alive, then Daemon has no reason to kamikaze Aemond. If Nettles/Rhaena is dead or exiled, then the endgame of the show gets screwed up. Why the frick would the showrunners decide to do this?

House of the Dragon is a bunch of liberal white women complaining how much of an injustice it was that Hillary Clinton and Daenerys lost. GRRM and the original Game of Thrones series are fiercely anti-monarchy and show how the allure of power drives people insane, and how the common people suffer when the nobles play the game of thrones, the writers of House of the Dragon are unironically pro-authoritarianism, they just want women and PoC to be doing the war crimes instead.

What's even worse is that Daenerys actually suffered unlike Rhaenyra or Alicent, so the point of redeeming Daenerys doesn't even hold water. Neither Alicent or Rhaenyra are compelling protagonists. They're just two spoiled rich girls who have been mildly inconvenienced but still live better than 99.99999% of people in Westeros. They are the perfect tokens of modern feminism.

Daenerys becoming beloved by roasties and middle-aged women was the worst thing to ever happen to the public perception of the Targaryen dynasty.

Daenerys is a warning how even those with the best intentions can be destroyed by their own ambition and desire to rule the world. But women genuinely believe that the world would be a better place if they could just kill everyone they don't like, and women can only be driven to evil because men made them that way; they're never responsible for their own actions.

Assuming that it even does turn to a democracy, which for a fantasy setting that’s a bold assumption to make, that’s all it is, an assumption.

Doesn’t change the fact that the series ends with the monarchy still intact which kinda defeats the whole “monarchy bad” message doesn’t it?

He is. All the illustrations you've seen of him thus far are literally fanart.

      >"Daemon I want you out of King's Landing and away from the Throne, go back to your wife on Runestone!"
      >uhh no *kills wife, tries to take dragon egg against the king's wishes*
      >"Daemon I want you to leave my daughter alone!"
      >uhh no *takes her to a brothel and causes scandal against the king's wishes*
      >"Daemon I want you gone forever, never return!"
      >uhh no *comes back for the next royal event against the king's wishes*
      >"Daemon you're married to a good woman now, settle down and act like a decent man!"
      >uhh no *buries new wife then fricks and marries previously mentioned daughter against the king's wishes*
      >Blackgays champion this character and treat him as Rhaenyra's loyal attack dog malewife
      >when their access to the Throne is questioned, their mantra turns into "respect the king's wishes"
I respect the Blackgays who openly admit they root for the Blacks because of the "might makes right" approach of character like Daemon. But most Blackgays lie and gaslight all day, using "the king's word is law" as their slogan when the Blacks have been defying the king's word for 80% of the show. Seemingly the king's word should only be enforced when it suits them.

Please understand, If the children of Daemon and Rhaenyra aren't born and don't inherit then the wold will end in Ice Zombie Apocalypse.

      >Viserys naming Rhaenyra heir made sense at first
      based and Ottopilled.
      >Rhaenyra still had time to go from "I just wanna have fun and eat cake" to a competent ruler.
Viserys just organized feasts and hunts and attended council meetings where he largely deferred to his councilors expertise on how his realm ought to be ran and it was one of the longest stretches of peace under the Targaryens.

Aegon II became a philanderer because he knew he wouldn't be king. He openly engaged in degeneracy in part because it would make him unappealing as a rival claimant to his sister, but then he got bumfricked anyway because his apparent disinterest in the Iron throne made him even more attractive to the Hightower faction because ruling through a disinterested figurehead is more lucrative for his backers anyway.

I hate how the show made Alicent into the "girl gets tragically married to an old noble" trope. In the books, Alicent was older and fully wanted to marry Viserys. Also, she gave him three children, which wouldn't happen if she didn't want the marriage. After all. Viserys is no Maegor.
